  • What is the most important question to ask yourself if you’re an artist? It’s also the most fun question and sometimes also the scariest question: what if? In today’s video I explore my most recent “what ifs” and where they have led me. I share my sketchbook work, a process video of a portrait and I do a little bit of swatching of some of my favorite art supplies.

    OK, so I was listening to Tracey and Luke sing "Fast Car" from last night's Grammys and you opened your sketchbook with the 'fast frogs.' And immediately I started singing, "You got a Fast Frog!" LOL! It's what happens in my brain!

      Thank you for your kind words! :-) You know, even though I’ve been drawing and painting people for a long time, somehow I’ve very rarely put it up on youtube. Hmmmm, I think I’ll start showing more figures and faces. :-)

    Thank you so much for sharing, Kendra. Wonderful drawings! 😍 - I have a question on the Sketchbooks themselves, and maybe you or someone can help? How do you make your sketchbooks? I am always trying to find beautiful sketchbooks to use but yours seem to be self-made in some way, as you mentioned, you put in paper…? This would be so interesting for me to learn more about this. - Ps: Just found your video from 4 months ago on the topic 😅 Thank you!

    The Lyra 9b pencil is still around! I got mine from blick as well. Hello from Vancouver, WA! I was not mad about the random spring days in February. Now it's back to raining per usual. 🤣

      Hi neighbor! :-) Oh, those “spring” days were a tease but also everybody that we met on our walks had great big smiles. I think, after that terrible ice storm, everyone was feeling so happy about a taste of spring. Thanks for your comment! :-)

    Oh! Loved watching this! Especially looking at your sketchbooks - and the colours on your fast frog drawings. Divine! Those greens with the blues. Gorgeous! And I love the asking of the question - “what if …?” All very inspiring! Now, I’ve got to go and check out those Luminence colour pencils - they looked yummy.

      Awwww, thank you for your kind words! I hope you find your old 9B graphite stick - I think mine sat in a box for about 20 years before I found a good use for it. :-)

      I love your comment. When I’m making art, it feels like a constant internal monologue of, “what if… this… what if… that…” and then, “try it!” :-)

    Just found your channel. I so appreciate you sharing your knowledge! You mentioned you use gouache, standard or acrylic? I’m about to make my first gouache purchase but just can not decide between the two. Thanks for the help!

    • @klwebuga
      @klwebuga  6 місяців тому

      Good morning! Thank you for your kind words. :-) Gouache comes in two forms that are very different - one is acrylic, which means it will dry and not reactivate. So you can’t squeeze it onto your palette and use it again the next day (for instance). The regular sort of gouache is like watercolor, but much more opaque.
