It’s good for indoor running / gyms / strength exercise or park jogs where the ground is even and not rough with stones . U can do road tarmac but the wear and tear and the impact on ur foot strike gonna take a beating after long runs. I like this shoes as for aesthetic wise cauze it’s not over bulky like a running shoe and it’s good for casual / work perspective.

This line of shoes are awesome on a treadmill. I'd recommend them simply as a cheap pair for the gym that is properly designed for running. My experience with the older free rn 3.0 resulted in a lot of nagging arch pains around my talus bone, so I'd say you're right to avoid using them over longer distances, especially on hard surfaces.

I LOVE this Nike line. I've had mine (old model) for 6 years and today I'm getting a new pair. I was tempted to get Nike Pegasus but the weight is pretty significant compared to Free 5.0. More expensive too. So why not stick to what I already know is excellent.

@@PMBShoes I also think that their new sole design is weird with wavy lines that trap rocks and too many curves on the cushion. @@PMBShoes had a bit of back and forth with the guy in the runners store. I'm not looking to run in 'm so much as use 'm for a bit of anything and everything, ranging from just leisure to some gym sessions. They are quite comfy and here in New Zealand there's not an awful lot of choice... Arse end of the world and that. 😅 I ended up getting 'm and have taken 'm for a relaxed trot around well beaten off road tracks in the hills. I don’t understand Nike’s thought process here…the whole point of the Free RN line is to promote healthy and natural foot striking whilst running, but then they put that ridiculous bulbous rear end to cushion heel striking…weird.
The best Free version was the 1st iteration of the Free Distance model. It’s been downhill since then.

Great, sock-like everyday shoe. Just be prepared to replace them every six months as the fabric heel will wear out VERY quickly. Source: I've had to return two pairs and a third is starting to wear, all under a year. Nike guarantees for two years, so I've gotten them replaced for free, but this degree of terrible construction should be unacceptable. Thinking I might just go with the Pegasus for an everyday shoe, but I really like how the low profile of the 5.0s ...

I unfortunately didn’t get a chance to try the 2018 version.
Based on reviews and looking at pictures, the closest thing available today that will get you close to it are:
      - Free Run 2
      - Flex Run 2021
The foam on this 5.0 is very soft, but it’s not necessarily the most cushioned. Also, it lacks structure, which makes sense for a Free Run shoe, but it hasn’t been my favorite.

    • @PMBShoes
      @PMBShoes  2 роки тому +2

I unfortunately haven't tried the Free RN 2018, but I wouldn't recommend it. The model doesn't seem to have any additional rubber at the outsole, which could mean higher chances of slipping on a wet track and/or messing up your form.

    • @PMBShoes
      @PMBShoes  2 роки тому +1

I wouldn’t recommend these if you’re a heavy runner. From what I’ve read online in a few articles, shoes with softer foam, little stability and support won’t work.
This Free Run 5.0 has an incredibly soft foam, that doesn’t provide a lot of cushioning or impact protection. Also, it’s very thin and close to the ground, so it doesn’t feel that stable or supportive.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s still great if you want a sock-like and breathable shoe that you can use around the house and/or for shorter and easier runs.
The Flex Run is also pretty soft (because of the dual-density foam) but it provides slightly better cushioning and more stability and support because of the taller midsole.
From the 2 options, I’d probably point you towards the Flex Run 2021, but still give them a try if you have a chance.
When it comes to sizing, I went True-To-Size and the fit was good. They sit pretty close to your foot, so the fit can feel a bit tight. This is probably why Nike recommends going 1 size up.
      Hope that helps!

I would definitely recommend something that’s more lightweight but can still provide decent responsiveness to help you through the faster strides.
The first one that comes to mind is the Pegasus 38. It has React at the midsole and an Air Zoom unit at the forefoot that would help a lot.
Another one could be the Vomero 16. It’s basically the same thing as the Pegasus but with a ZoomX foam core that can help with creating a softer feeling and slightly more energy return. It is more expensive than the Pegasus, though.
A last option would be the Winflo 8. It’s the most affordable one of the 3 and it has very similar features. The foam is Cushlon, though, which is great, but doesn’t feel as cushioning and soft as the other 2.

I wouldn't recommend it as much for hiking!
The midsole/outsole are very thin and soft, which can become uncomfortable after some time of being out on the trails.
I would recommend looking at shoes that are specifically made for the trail (Nike has a couple options that are right around the same price point as this Free Run).
If you want something that you can use for the trail and other activities, look at something with a higher and more stable midsole and perhaps a more durable upper. Some options that come to mind are: Renew Run 2, Winflo 8, Pegasus 38.
      Hope that helps!

These shoes are absolutely not breathable. They are hot and lock in heat. I bought them for work and they are 100% comfortable, crazy comfortable.. but I knew the first week they were going to get an odor, it's been about a month and the odor is increasing, I never have this problem at all. I just bought some better socks but I wish these were a slight bit more breathable.

How have these been in terms of durability? I am n the fence bc I’ve seen a few reviews where the heel and/or toe is tearing apart from the sole

Bro just buy bulk silica gel packs and put them in after using. Should solve any moisture and odor problems.

@@bassyey That's smart, oddly it's been 5 months and the problem has not increased. The worst thing is I started walking on a paved trail and the soles wore really thin in a few weeks.. around the ball of my foot area. I noticed and switched shoes for that trail. That was disappointing though

Would you consider these shoes good for 1hour of jogging?

Good question, I think they should be fine because of the flexibility. I’d still recommend trying them first.
Try to order them through Nike, (if you’re in the US) you have up to 60 days to try them.
      Hope that helps!

That does rely on how experienced as a runner you are. It’s a shoe that is made to replicate “bare-foot” running. So no support and no cushioning… only experienced runners or people that have strong muscles are able to run long-distance.

Why the ugly white sole :( So sad. The heel doesn't look flexible either, while that is an important reason why I like to run on them.

Those shoes are garbage. After approx 2 months the shoe got holes at the heel. Big fan of the design, but Nike chose the wrong material. So disappointed

Sorry to hear that! Definitely not a fan of the quality of materials used on this shoe, hopefully they go with better quality ones for the next one.

Don’t buy these, the sole will wear away when used outside after a number of weeks even just walking as little as 3 miles a day. £100 for shoes that last a few weeks is hardly sustainable even if you do use recycled materials.

Pretty funny how you are so obsessed about environmental effect of a small piece of cardboard, when in the same time in India they literally throw trucks of garbage to the rivers.
