    Hand stitching is such a dying practical and survival skill, it shouldn't be shameful that even men should learn it. I'm trying to learn a variety of stitching methods because as of lately I've been repairing individual utility holders, such as belt pouches for things like knives, sharpening stones, etc. This is the first really nice AND practical stitch I've found. I'll have to try it as the latter of my utility pouches needs to be restitched. Thank you for such a great instructional video.

    My wife said "do it yourself!" So I've bought thread, needles and a thimble...I don't need her stuff, and I don't need her bloody help!! :-) I'm 47-years old and have not sewn since school. About time I learned really :-)
    I cant wait to see her changing her brake-pads the mad cow! Thanks Tammy...brilliant video!

    Okay, a few dumb questions from a guy... what happens if I ran out of thread. Should I start with a new thread or do I join two threads together? I tried a very long thread but they get tangled up in a mess. I'm making a pencil case for my daughter out of thin suede leather, I've seen this type of stitch being used for such construction. Thank you.

      another question just popped in my mind, what do I do when I arrive at a corner. Sorry for so many questions.

    • @maimee2angel
      @maimee2angel 9 років тому +19

      I'm not an expert. As far as
      I know : secure the first thread when it's ended and start new with the 2nd thread. With this stitch, in the corner you can do diagonal stitch for the corner but I can't explain it well

    • @LadyLahdeedah
      @LadyLahdeedah 9 років тому +14

      secure the first thread and then start your second thread fresh. don't try to tie them together. Trying to tie them together will be a) a pain in the butt for no reason and b) will decrease the strength of the stitch. Hope that helps. :)

      Stop and tie it as you would normally and thread another needle starting where you ended the last stitch.

    hi, I found your video while looking for how to start a blanket stitch when not doing it on linen. I've done the blanket stitch in Hardanger embroidery for over 20 years, but it is started and finished differently than when actually doing something like a blanket. You actually are making this stitch harder to do than it really is. When you poke your needle in the material, while the needle is sticking out the back side, you take the thread or floss in my case, and you wrap it once around that point on the needle. Then pull your thread tight. Now you've made one stitch. The way you are doing it you have to make sure you don't accidentally pull the tread tight before you weave the needle through your small loop, just before you then pull it tight.
    You hold yours totally different too. I hold my material upright and you seem to hold it sideways. this stitch can be even easier than you've made it.
