Larry had in the original, consider how sensitive this modern mad age is. Any kind of small things that could be twist as racism is something Capcom doesn't want to risk happening. That being said, is Larry Chiang's old design stereotype and racist? Personally, being a Taiwanese, I don't feel that malicious design intend. I'm more leaning toward the intentional disgusting aspect because how greases and obese Larry looked, especially when you're made to look at him in the face, and I'm fairly certain that was the both the art director and script director's intention for the whole encounter and aftermath. The whole room with those processed meat was a set up for Carlito's speech to compare consumerism to zombies.

Everyone’s talking about the voice but my biggest concern is the camera. It’s definitely too close to Frank and needs to be zoomed out more like the original. At least give us the ability to change it hopefully
My only gripe is why does Frank and Isabella’s hair look so gray in the entrance plaza. I mean it might be the lighting and only in the one scene but it’s bugging me. Other than that I’m impressed with everything.
Here is the main problem though... why would you pay (probably) 60 bucks for something that you've already played and (in my case) really really already enjoyed. I came for the story and stayed for the fun I had. But I'm not gonna pay money to play it with better graphics and slight changes. It's not worth 60 dollars. (Average cost of remakes lol)
For most people it would be a mix of nostalgia and a continuation to the next generation. I know I played DR1 for hours as a kid and I'd love my younger cousins to relive it with better graphics and controls.
That fast forward option will come in handy during overtime mode. I don't know if you remember, but during overtime mode there's a lot of waiting around for the next mission to start and I remember there's not much else to do except for wait around so I was kind of just standing there. Even after you have to do the fetch quest to get all the items for the prezombrex, if you get it done fast enough you still have to wait around even more.
Yeah, plus waiting until midnight for isabella to come to frank in North plaza in the abandoned store area. Hopefully it's handy for unlockables, and they stay in this one like Arthur's briefs and the laser sword

They have been reworking the engine for a while to REX engine I think it's called. So maybe some of those improvements will be in this. Honestly they probably started the engine changes for this and the new Resi since this game will have a ton on screen at once.
When it comes to remasters, personally I love it when they take the OG, and ask “what if this was made today?” Mafia 1 answered this question with outstanding results. Breathing new life in a 2 decade old game. They added new areas, I loved it. I hope they do that, I’d love to see some new parts of the mall, or the town. Personally I wish they’d would have taken some elements from DR2 like crafting to really reinstate the core ideas of dead rising, not just a beautiful remake. But, it’s okay. I’m sure with this level of detail and ATTENTION this will sell fine to fans and newer users alike. Can’t wait to get my hands on this.
Since the game is a deluxe remaster, we already know they altered some areas. They may not do much to alter the level design but I think the North Plaza might have a couple new stores or layout

Your analysis on Larry’s design was pretty interesting and I like both of his designs from what little we’ve seen but his old design kinda has some story to it too depending on how you look at it Considering Larry is either Chinese or Taiwanese and the only other non-white psychopath in the original game besides Carlito his story could provide 2 different contexts which I’m gonna get very head canon-y. 1: He’s an immigrant who adopted the American way of life and serves its people with obsession. I still am not sold on Frank's new look, I think they did it to reflect the new voice actor. If I do pre-order the game i'm using the new skin. Also with Isabella, why does it look like she has grey hair? She's supposed to be in her 20's yet they are making her look a lot older than what she's supposed to be.
I was also quite skeptical with the teaser they gave us. I do like some of the changes myself. Now we can move while aiming guns and the stairs at the air duct. I think they might even give full in game voice lines for Frank and the survivors you interact with. I'm also thinking they made Frank's new design the way it is so people will pre order the game just for the original model. Though a few things I'm not a fan of are stuff like the health bars for melee weapons. The HUD and UI look bland imo they have the functionality of the original but aren't as nice to look at. Now we have a compass with distance markers instead of the arrow comes off as a bit too hand holdy too me. Character redesigns are mostly good Isabella's is my favorite she looks very much like the some of the original concept art now. Jessie looks ok her nose, jaw and mouth are a bit off imo. I never understood the issue with larry being offensive so it was a bit of a shock seing him completely changed. I'm also wondering does anyone else think the lighting is a bit much the shadows look a bit too dark and the lights sometimes look too blinding and hazey. Some of this might've been a bit nit pickey I just have a huge love for this franchise especially the first game and I'm hoping Capcom can fully bring it back to its former glory.

I don't buy new games anymore the only games I really ever play are roughly 10 years or older. Only reason I care at all is this is the first thing involving Dead Rising in 8 years and it's a remaster of the original and yes it does upset me to see characters having changes made to them. This is looking to be miles better than Dead Rising 4 and less obnoxious. I just want Capcom to realize people still care about Dead Rising it was proven before if you give us a bad product we wont buy it like what happened with Dead Rising 4. Sadly buying this is a double edged sword If people buy it Capcom realizes Dead Rising is still popular and potentially continue the franchise but They will feel comfortable with making changes to beloved characters appearances and making downgrades. If people don't buy it Dead Rising may not return for an even longer time than the 8 years we waited for this if it were to ever return.

If game companies kept their remakes(boots) of games to the same tone and feeling that the originals had. I would never see a problem with buying the same game, but with remakes(boots) taking liberties to change iconic areas, cutscenes and character dialogue and just straight up removing big areas of the game that were memorable to gamers is a big problem because then if they plan an remaking all of their titles for the newer generation of consoles and pc and people in general really like the game then they can just go and change tons of key moments that have been implanted in our brains since we first played them. That’s also one of my fears with the upcoming Snake Eater remake is that a lot of changes may come into the game that drastically changes how the original made you feel and the emotions you got from playing the game

What about the loading between different areas? The second game was much easier to walk between areas without constant loading. Do you know if this has been adjusted?

Im honestly tired of the complaints of franks look. He actually looks closer to his beta designs, especially the hair. They wanted frank to have spikey hair, but it looked horrid on the 360. Frank was always supposed to be ugly. He was like an anti leon Kennedy. Leon is a pretty boy with military training. Frank is an ugly average american with a camera. Leon does the right thing from the start. Frank does the right thing at first for the scoop, but then does the right thing because he knows its what he should do. Leon is skinny and in shape. The game really does look amazing. I know Larry is wearing a skin suit though. The suburban psycho white dude kind of looks more uncanny though. But, I personally still have no problem with the new voice and look, but I feel like they should offer the original voice (for free) with the trade off of maybe missing a few dialogue lines, or they could use AI to reconstruct the few lines. I’m sure they still somehow own the original voice line files. Peace 🫡.

Here is the main problem though... why would you pay (probably) 60 bucks for something that you've already played and (in my case) really really already enjoyed. I came for the story and stayed for the fun I had. But I'm not gonna pay money to play it with better graphics and slight changes. It's not worth 60 dollars. (Average cost of remakes lol)
For most people it would be a mix of nostalgia and a continuation to the next generation. I know I played DR1 for hours as a kid and I'd love my younger cousins to relive it with better graphics and controls.

That fast forward option will come in handy during overtime mode. I don't know if you remember, but during overtime mode there's a lot of waiting around for the next mission to start and I remember there's not much else to do except for wait around so I was kind of just standing there. Even after you have to do the fetch quest to get all the items for the prezombrex, if you get it done fast enough you still have to wait around even more.
Yeah, plus waiting until midnight for isabella to come to frank in North plaza in the abandoned store area. Hopefully it's handy for unlockables, and they stay in this one like Arthur's briefs and the laser sword

On a first run i get how it might not be needed since you need all that time to level up Frank. But if you're doing Lvl 50 runs or speedruns then yeah it's very useful.

They have been reworking the engine for a while to REX engine I think it's called. So maybe some of those improvements will be in this. Honestly they probably started the engine changes for this and the new Resi since this game will have a ton on screen at once.
When it comes to remasters, personally I love it when they take the OG, and ask “what if this was made today?”
Mafia 1 answered this question with outstanding results. Breathing new life in a 2 decade old game.
They added new areas, I loved it.
I hope they do that, I’d love to see some new parts of the mall, or the town.
Personally I wish they’d would have taken some elements from DR2 like crafting to really reinstate the core ideas of dead rising, not just a beautiful remake.

Since the game is a deluxe remaster, we already know they altered some areas. They may not do much to alter the level design but I think the North Plaza might have a couple new stores or layout

Your analysis on Larry’s design was pretty interesting and I like both of his designs from what little we’ve seen but his old design kinda has some story to it too depending on how you look at it
Considering Larry is either Chinese or Taiwanese and the only other non-white psychopath in the original game besides Carlito his story could provide 2 different contexts which I’m gonna get very head canon-y.
1: He’s an immigrant who adopted the American way of life and serves its people with obsession. In Carlito’s eyes he’s a traitor and a sellout who should be on his side considering the US coulda conducted their experiments anywhere including Larry’s original home and America has corrupted him to the point he represents everything Carlito hates about America but in the body of a foreigner which would arguably be even worse in his eyes as America’s ideals are polluting people that aren’t even originally from there
2: He was born in America and in Carlito’s eyes aside from appearance has been completely neutered of his culture to the point of being indistinguishable from the average American including their obsession for greed and consumerism (which is also ironic considering Nick, Diego and probably the other orphans he infected considered him a terrorist and were raised as Americans)

I was also quite skeptical with the teaser they gave us. I do like some of the changes myself. Now we can move while aiming guns and the stairs at the air duct. I think they might even give full in game voice lines for Frank and the survivors you interact with. I'm also thinking they made Frank's new design the way it is so people will pre order the game just for the original model. Though a few things I'm not a fan of are stuff like the health bars for melee weapons. The HUD and UI look bland imo they have the functionality of the original but aren't as nice to look at. Now we have a compass with distance markers instead of the arrow comes off as a bit too hand holdy too me. Character redesigns are mostly good Isabella's is my favorite she looks very much like the some of the original concept art now. Jessie looks ok her nose, jaw and mouth are a bit off imo. I never understood the issue with larry being offensive so it was a bit of a shock seing him completely changed. I'm also wondering does anyone else think the lighting is a bit much the shadows look a bit too dark and the lights sometimes look too blinding and hazey. Some of this might've been a bit nit pickey I just have a huge love for this franchise especially the first game and I'm hoping Capcom can fully bring it back to its former glory.

I don't buy new games anymore the only games I really ever play are roughly 10 years or older. Only reason I care at all is this is the first thing involving Dead Rising in 8 years and it's a remaster of the original and yes it does upset me to see characters having changes made to them. This is looking to be miles better than Dead Rising 4 and less obnoxious. I just want Capcom to realize people still care about Dead Rising it was proven before if you give us a bad product we wont buy it like what happened with Dead Rising 4. Sadly buying this is a double edged sword If people buy it Capcom realizes Dead Rising is still popular and potentially continue the franchise but They will feel comfortable with making changes to beloved characters appearances and making downgrades. If people don't buy it Dead Rising may not return for an even longer time than the 8 years we waited for this if it were to ever return.

If game companies kept their remakes(boots) of games to the same tone and feeling that the originals had. I would never see a problem with buying the same game, but with remakes(boots) taking liberties to change iconic areas, cutscenes and character dialogue and just straight up removing big areas of the game that were memorable to gamers is a big problem because then if they plan an remaking all of their titles for the newer generation of consoles and pc and people in general really like the game then they can just go and change tons of key moments that have been implanted in our brains since we first played them. That’s also one of my fears with the upcoming Snake Eater remake is that a lot of changes may come into the game that drastically changes how the original made you feel and the emotions you got from playing the game

I was almost excited for this remake, but seeing one of the psychopaths being censored (Capcom follows ESG rules and will probably censor even more things) and paywalling what could have been unlockable costumes gained through achievements or exploring like in the original game, just makes me want to vote with my wallet against these stupid modern decisions plaguing every remake, and play the original game instead

Now im not a og dead rising fan, no joke beat 1 last night, so my opinion is very different from those who grew up with it, there's a lot of purity in the dead rising community ive noticed, and they hold onto every little detail of these games as its apart of their childhood, doesn't matter if its jank, or a straight up bullshit mechanic, they love it, and i can honestly see why, as there's nothing like dr1, but i dont share that view on the franchise unfortunately, now with that specified
The butchers design to me felt extremely out of place, or at least didn't stack up to the rest, he's just sorta forgettable, felt like they were grasping for something iconic but tapped the artist well dry getting them to make all the amazing shit leading up, sure he was disturbing, but i like the new one far more (at least at the moment) his voice acting was good, and i liked his characterization, but the design really could've been better, so i wouldn't doubt they took this opportunity to make a more iconic interpretation of your everyday super market butcher gone mad, plus this is cutting down on diversity so i doubt its censorship, if they really wanted to censor it, they'd have kept him an asian dude, but made him more dignified and refined, i can already see some idiot on twitter being pissy they "white washed" one of the few asain characters (despite it being made by a Japanese company, but wouldn't be the first time 😂)

I think it's GOOD that I haven't played DR1 in a LONG while. The game really does look amazing. I know Larry is wearing a skin suit though. The suburban psycho white dude kind of looks more uncanny though. But, I personally still have no problem with the new voice and look, but I feel like they should offer the original voice (for free) with the trade off of maybe missing a few dialogue lines, or they could use AI to reconstruct the few lines. I’m sure they still somehow own the original voice line files. Peace 🫡.

I just don't get it. The way Frank looks jumping out of that helicopter is awful. Every other angle makes the new model look just fine. It has to be spliced together bits of beta footage or something.
