I own a 1994 LeSabre since new. My armrest was never abused; however, due to daily use it became worthless. Also, the lousy G.M. design, my armrest like many other 93-97 LeSabre armrests became unusable. So, I went to the junk yard, found a 2001 LeSabre with the same interior color as mine (blue), pulled it out, brought it home, cleaned it out and put it in. It was an exact fit and best of all it has 2 built in cup holders in the front and 2 in the back. It is a MUCH BETTER DESIGN and only cost me $10.

This is really the only one that is worth watching, thanks for the actual method of opening the center console.

You can release the latch without pulling the hinge pins by pushing back the release mechanism on the driver side. Hard to explain, but it's in the armrest "hinge" area, where the bracket is. A movable item under the cloth a bit. You can push it towards the rear of the car to release the latch. Then you can cut off the item described in this video or put something in the latch to jam it open, which is what I plan to do

I ended up clipping the same prongs that the video shows. Somehow I ruined the linkage from the hinge area, whatever pushes the release back to allow the cover to open. I removed the center console to use brake-clean to remove the adhesive and fuzzy stuff under the lid that was falling apart and very sticky... probably removing the hinge pins would have avoided that.

This video, and your description, are the only answers that logically work that I have found, and I have been on and off looking for a few months. Thanks for the good description.

Where did you get that gray after market cup holder on the floor? How did you install it? Please advise.

Can anyone tell me the part number on this armrest? I actually need to find a place to replace the whole thing.

This was completely useless for me. Both of my pin heads broke immediately upon trying to pull them out of hinge.
