I LOVE your vids. Working through them one by one. I have NEVER posted to youtube before, and it is FABULOUSLY COOL that you (a real bullet pro) appreciates my tip. Keep up the FAB work!
*TO CLARIFY* there are 80 sheets of dotted paper in this notebook, or in other words, 160 sides that can be written on. I’m sorry if that wasn’t clear in the way I worded it! ❤️
Plant Based Bride totally agree! We need way more self love and don’t see it as egoism. I really liked the video I already have a a&o in the a5 size but it’s a light colour so it’s really dirty now as I take it everywhere and also to school but not now of course. Keep up the good work!
As an American, I wasn't aware of B5-sized notebooks per se, but after watching your channel for so long, I decided to pick one up (this very Archer & Olive journal actually) to use for my daughter's memory keeper instead of a traditional scrapbook. The page thickness was a must for me since I also love to paint in my bujo, and I wanted something that would last. The fact that Archer & Olive also packages their journal in a box was a plus since now I can pack it up when it's filled up and give it to my daughter when she's older. As always, thanks for the work you do and the art you create!
Interestingly enough, I didn’t receive either of my notebooks (this one and an A5 I bought to give away) in boxes 🤔 That sounds lovely, though! Such a beautiful idea ❤️
Plant Based Bride I think the just currently switched to the boxes, because it is more eco friendly and before that the notebook were wrapped in plastic. I have tree notebooks from A&O as well and I did receive my newest one in a little box 😊. Although I do think they still have some left that are already wrapped in plastic, so they of course sell them, until they are completely switched to the boxes.
I may be the only one, but I actually prefer when there’s no page numbers! So this would be perfect for me, on top of all the other things I like about it :)
A really in-depth and helpful review - thanks! I particularly appreciated the detailed breakdown of the pen test bc I think that section is quite translational, and doesn't just apply to this notebook 🌟
Lovely review! I love the quality of the paper in these notebooks, as well as the fact that Archer and Olive is a woman-owned small business that promotes mental health and wellness. I would buy more notebooks - the new neapolitan-style is SO tempting - but my biggest issue is that, because these notebooks are (beautifully) hand-bound, the pages don't always line up, causing the dot grid to be misaligned. It triggers my anal-retentiveness for some reason, probably because I do quite a few two-page spreads. That is really my only con - everything else about these notebooks is amazing and such high-quality!
I just got my second A&O journal! I had a Dingbats journal before and I really like this notebook better. Granted I don't really use a whole bunch of different mediums like paint but I do like the thickness and how white the pages are!
I have to say, I am in love with mine. I use a B5 for work and an A5 just for my everyday life (since my work is more organizational heavy than my normal life). I love their notebooks so much! I will say, that I found that watercolor did not hold up very well for me, and markers tended to bleed through if I had to layer. Otherwise, I haven't found a notebook that I like more yet.
Thank you for an honest review on Archer and Olive notebooks. I own an Archer and Olive note book which I use for my bujo. As you demonstrated, sharpies create ghosting and bleed through. Other video reviewers indicated A&O doesn't bleed through or ghost but it will happen when pressing firmly with a sharpie. Thanks 😀
For my first archer and olive notebook (i've been quite hesitant due to the price), I've bought a square one. So, thank you so much for sharing your impressions on the quality of the paper. I'm rather reassured now!
I just love all your videos! ^_^ I use SeQeS Dotted Journal Notebook. It has exactly the same paper as Archer and Olive but has 2 bookmarks in different colors and their covers have a bit better quality. And what's important they are $15 cheaper then A&O :D I think they don't spend much money on the promotion, that's why they cost less. And yes, they are 100% vegan friendly. Cons - they don't have so many colors and covers variety as A&O. P.S. I recently realized that I don't like to use watercolors in my BuJo, so in the future, I will probably try Dingbats. But if I decide to stay on a thick paper notebook, I will buy one more SeQes notebook.
I used SEQES as well. They were supposed to be releasing new colours and designs in March but with the whole COVID thing, the release seems to have been delayed.
I watched a stationary review video where they compared several bullet journals and SeQeS came out on top with pen and watercolour testing.🤓 I almost got one but wanted B5 size. I ended up ordering from Notebook Therapy.
I am watching this today, but the day you posted it was my birthday..... Not anything about that on particular, but it's just nice to have such a cool journal's review on my birthday.
I got a B5 for my journal this year because of your videos and I LOVE IT -- I actually just received the smaller A5 kraft paper journal yesterday :) found out that the brush pens don't blend the hard way, but using the pens with some water before placing on the page works just like watercolors! As always, thank you for your videos!!
Your review is so perfect. I had the same experience while using it. I'm not bothered by the fact that it isn't numbered or that I can see the stitching. But I hate when the pages stick together. Btw I think they have a separate watercolor book. Is there any way to clean the cover? It is sad that we pay so much for it and mine is dirty in less than a month. And also does this mean you like B5 over A5 for your bujo? Your previous bujo was also a B5.
Thank you! Yes, I saw that they launched watercolour notebooks. I haven't been ready to splurge to get some just yet but I might so I can review them for you all :) As for cleaning, I do the same as Solina! A damp cloth to wipe it down when I notice it getting dirty. It is frustrating, but I love the cloth cover and I guess that just sort of comes with the territory.
This was super interesting! Loved hearing your thoughts. I use the Archer & Olive sketchbook and it is a godsend. I don't know whether the paper is the same ( I assume it is) but it handles alcohol based markers SO well - a lot of the time the marker ink tends to bleed across the paper, not just through it, and this is the first sketchbook I've tried where the ink actually stays where it's put. It shows through the page, that's a given, but it only bleeds through if there's a lot of blending (which it handles gorgeously anyway). It's the same price as the notebook so it is definately on the high end but for someone like me who takes a million years to finish a sketchbook, it's definitely worth every penny :)
Oh, I think the sketchbook paper is slightly different as the noteboook paper is not made for alcohol based markers. I’m really curious to try both the sketchbooks and the watercolour books but in this economy I’m trying not to spend unnecessary money 😂 maybe I’ll justify them so I can do reviews!
A tip that I found with the Finetec paints is to put a few drops of water in them for about 8-10 minutes before using them, and then the paint shows up really opaque. I'm planning on using the Archer & Olive notebook for my 2021 bullet journal, and I can't wait!
I have an Archer and Olive that I use is it art journal and it can take every medium I throw at it. From watercolor to alcohol-based markers. It has the least amount of page worping that I’ve ever seen and I wouldn’t draw in the back of the pages that have alcohol-based markers on it but it’s a damn good journal I will definitely be purchasing this again! As a matter of fact the water colors look wonderful on it.
I just found these Archer & Oliver bullet journals recently, I am going to order the peach one (the one with a hand holding the solar system). I live in Australia so it will take about a month or to to come here, but it will be worth the wait!! 💛💛 p.s I am new to bullet journaling
It was very interesting hearing you thoughts and your opinion on the A&O Journals, thank you 😊 . I have purchased three of those myself and I can’t wait to test out the B5 sized Journal! And I totally agree with you, the quick drying paper is both a blessing and a curse 😂.
Thank you for doing this video, I really appreciate it! I’ve trying to reconcile the cost compared to what I’ve been using so your opinion was very helpful in making my decision! I’m going to get on the pre-order list for the b5, think I will much prefer the white paper.
Thank you for this in-depth review! I really like A&O-journals but I find them not really suitable for watercolors because of the wrinkling and how it's impossible to really 'do' anything with the watercolors. They just sit on top and it is really hard to do 'wet on wet'. That aside I think they are great journals, really worth the money. What journal will you try next? Will it be another A&O-journal or something different when this one is finished? Maybe you could try a Citrus Bookbindery journal! Their 140gsm paper is great with watercolors!
@@PlantBasedBride Do so, but only if you'd think it would be something that could suit you! I think maybe the pages might be a bit too ivory for your taste but the books are all hand-made by a wife- and- husband company in the UK :D
Great review! As one of the people who has previously commented about watercolor trouble in their own A&O, I think I'm going to have to give them another chance with better materials and technique 😉 For now I've moved on to Dingbats and I do really like the smoothness of their paper, but I miss the whiteness of A&O. Please do keep reviewing notebooks! I watched all of your previous ones before I bought the Dingbats notebook!
That’s awesome! I will definitely keep reviewing notebooks as I get my hands on them ☺️ and it’s ok if A&O doesn’t work for how you want to paint in your BuJo, we all use them differently ❤️
Thank you for the amazing review. I just found out about bullet journaling yesterday and am so excited to start. Have you ever tried watercolor pencils in your journals?
I just got my Archer and Olive notebook a few days ago and yesterday was my first time playing with it and I LOVE it. I don’t blend much or use paints so it seems perfect for me. I might never try another brand again 😂
I usually just save fonts I like when I see them in Pinterest or Instagram and then do my best to imitate them! If they’re too complex I’ll print out a sheet with all of the letters in the font and practice tracing them to get the shapes in my hand ☺️
This was indeed helpful to me, because I am lately worried about the pure quality of my current bulletjournal. Esspacially when it comes to the use of watercolour. And I already flirtet with an Archer & Olive. Now I am ready for it... as soon, as my old one is filled up. ^^
I number my collection pages which I keep in the back of the book. But refer to pages in the bullet journal pages by date. It saves so much time since I am dating the pages anyway. ❤🌅🌵
I really appreciate this review! I’ve been on the fence about getting one of these, but I think you have enough info to make the decision. I still wonder how heavy writing will show up on the other side. I’ve had a huge problem with the leuchtterm showing clear impressions of what I’ve written on the other side. That’s my only concern. I am doodle heavy with pens and markers but not ever paint. I just wonder how it would compare
There is very little ghosting with pen use in my experience - it’s only visible when I lift the page and get some back light on the page! When flat I can’t see any ghosting from any of the pens I’ve tried. That being said, I haven’t tried any fountain pens. So I can’t speak to how those would perform! I hope that helps ☺️
@@PlantBasedBride currently using a B5 Minimalism Art and I like it. It has 234 pgs/120gsm and holds up to some water colors with buckling but im still not the best at water control lol I hoping that an A&O will hold up better given it has a higher gsm
This was a super helpful review! I'm thinking of getting an Archer & Olive for my next bujo and this was very informative. I was just wondering about the smoothness of the paper. I'm pretty choosy with the paper that I write on when using my tombow brush pens to prevent fraying, and was wondering if the dryness/thickness of the paper makes it any toothier and a little rougher to write on, especially with brush pens?
That’s a great point! I should have mentioned that. I find the paper quite smooth, though not as smooth and silky as coated paper tends to be. I definitely wouldn’t describe it as rough or toothy, though!
Notebook therapy just released a B5 160gsm bullet journal. I saw you gave them [their A5] a solid review a while back. The cover is black with a tiny rose gold solar system. I'm still waiting for the order to ship in but looking forward to checking it out and working with it!
I was a bit disappointed in my Archer & Olive tbh, I had watched so many videos and thought about purchasing it for so long, and I finally did for this year, but the foil on the cover has worn off from multiple places (and I've used it only from January and have been storing it very carefully) but what really disappointed me was that the placement of the dots are off in multiple pages in my notebook, so sometimes I can't make a full two page spread because the dots on the left side are higher than the right side. It almost feels like I got a faulty one because I've never heard anyone mention this in a Archer & Olive video before..
I agree with pretty much everything here. This is my first first bullet journal, though, so I don’t know how much my opinion is worth lol I will say that I don’t find numbering my pages as I got that daunting. Only take a second or less when I turn the page 🤷🏼♀️ Cost-wise, I agree on the worth it part, but for anyone wanting to try them and is ok with taking a gamble on size and cover style, there is a mystery sample box that you can order for $45.00 a box. It is guaranteed to have at least one dot grid journal and be valued at $60. I ordered two so that I could give the gift of bullet journaling to my friends and needed up with two A5 dot grid journals, two B5 dot grid journals, a blackout journal, and one of their pre-printed planners. I was so excited that when they came back in stock, I ordered two more boxes lol crazy, I know. This way I can have a lettering journal and be ready with my next bullet journal when the time comes ☺️ Off topic, random question... is “y’all” common in Canada or the even just the Toronto area? I have noticed a few Canadian UA-camrs using it (I think all from Toronto). Thank you for all you do!
Oh wow, that sounds like an amazing deal! I kind of want to order a mystery box now haha As for y’all, it’s not common in Ontario as far as I know, but I starting saying it when I decided I didn’t want to constantly say “guys” as most youtubers tend to ☺️
Plant Based Bride definitely recommend ordering a box! It’s like a surprise gift that you give yourself lol Interesting. Thank you! I’m from Texas where “y’all” abounds (and where A&O is from, ironically), but do not have an accent that would place me as a native, at all. Or at least so I am told by almost everyone that meets me lol But, my y’all’s typically make people say, ok maybe. I thought if was commonly used there that maybe I’m secretly Canadian somehow 😂 (one of the countries people have guessed I’m from before, honestly). For the record, I love your use of it and your voice is just beautiful. Some might say, as smooth and sweet as honey, or maybe given the context of the conversation, maple syrup 😉
Thank you! I have done a few in the past, all for more affordable journals! Check out my Notebook Review playlist to see them ☺️ (Linked in the i card in the upper right hand corner of the video, or on my channel). If you have other notebooks you’d like me to review please let me know! I have a list going ❤️
give a minimalism art notebook a go. They come in dot, blank, lined, and graph. For about 13-14 USD, they are pretty darn good. I use fountain pens primarily and find them to be very good quality
@@PlantBasedBride with that said, there are 2 different versions. I did use Minimalism Art, Premium Hard Cover Notebook version. One is 100gsm, and the one I used is 120gsm
I've heard of a few more 160gsm notebooks, Archer and olive is pretty but it's so expensive. I think the cheapest one I found was Inkpot + you can customize it:)
I have been unable to master the skill not experiencing bleeding with watercolour in mine, it makes me very sad as my Scribble & Dot journals have handled it perfectly yet my A&O fox journal bleeds right through to the next pages. Any advice anyone? 😭
How do Copic markers/brush pens perform in it? I bought some copic markers with the idea of using them in my bujo but I have a very cheap one so it bleeds through BAD lol
Do they sell leather or synthetic types? I CANNOT deal with the feel of linen covers. Yick! Sensory issues. Waaaah. I really had my heart set on this brand for their thick pages but that scratchy, material cover just makes my skin crawl.
I think I heard you say that you were going to offer a sticker page that had 12 stickers all of the same month? If so, add a note that those stickers will repeat every seven years. Seriously! January 2020 calendars will have the same layout as January 2027 calendars! ❤🌅🌵😷
@@PlantBasedBride, people might be more inclined to buy the 1 month sheets if they know they'll be able to use them later on if they don't all get used up this year!? 💖🌞🌵😷

I hope that helps ☺️
omg there's no comparison with the leuchtturm xD
Plant Based Bride would you ever see impressions if you used it as a journaling page? Or just filling up the page with writing?
Minerva Minus thank god
I was literally searching this topic this morning wondering if it was worth the price tag for so few pages. Thank you :D
Yay! Perfect timing ❤️
I have one on the way! They made the B5 because I mentioned it would be amazing 😂 I’ve never felt so powerful lol
@@PlantBasedBride I wondered! -- Well done, m'lady! 😎🍷 That's awesome.
Write to the A&E-customer support and tell them of the issues! They are usually super helpful!
Oh no! I agree with Emma, I’d reach out to customer service! It seems your notebook may have slipped through on quality control ❤️
not only your vids are amazing but there's some awesome comments too! ❤👌
So true! My subscribers are the best ❤️
I agree with pretty much everything here. This is my first first bullet journal, though, so I don’t know how much my opinion is worth lol I will say that I don’t find numbering my pages as I got that daunting. Only take a second or less when I turn the page 🤷🏼♀️
Cost-wise, I agree on the worth it part, but for anyone wanting to try them and is ok with taking a gamble on size and cover style, there is a mystery sample box that you can order for $45.00 a box. This way I can have a lettering journal and be ready with my next bullet journal when the time comes ☺️
Off topic, random question... is “y’all” common in Canada or the even just the Toronto area? I have noticed a few Canadian UA-camrs using it (I think all from Toronto).
Thank you for all you do!
Oh wow, that sounds like an amazing deal! I kind of want to order a mystery box now haha
As for y’all, it’s not common in Ontario as far as I know, but I starting saying it when I decided I didn’t want to constantly say “guys” as most youtubers tend to ☺️
Plant Based Bride definitely recommend ordering a box! It’s like a surprise gift that you give yourself lol
Interesting.
That was a great pen and paint test.
I am so grateful for the detailed review!!😍☺️
I’m glad it was helpful! ❤️
Is the paper smooth and suitable for Tombow dual brush markers? I want a journal that doesn't make them fray.
This was such a great review!! Could you do reviews for other journals? Hopefully more affordable journals?
Thank you! I have done a few in the past, all for more affordable journals! Check out my Notebook Review playlist to see them ☺️ (Linked in the i card in the upper right hand corner of the video, or on my channel). If you have other notebooks you’d like me to review please let me know! I have a list going ❤️
Plant Based Bride thank you!! Love your works! 🥰🥰
give a minimalism art notebook a go. They come in dot, blank, lined, and graph. For about 13-14 USD, they are pretty darn good. I use fountain pens primarily and find them to be very good quality
I’ll have to try them! Thank you for the recommendation ❤️
@@PlantBasedBride with that said, there are 2 different versions. I did use Minimalism Art, Premium Hard Cover Notebook version. One is 100gsm, and the one I used is 120gsm
Great review...very thorough. 👍🏻
Thank you kindly!
I've heard of a few more 160gsm notebooks, Archer and olive is pretty but it's so expensive. I think the cheapest one I found was Inkpot + you can customize it:)
I haven’t heard of them! I need to check them out ☺️
Are the dots really strong? Or barely there?
Love them. Thank you. ❤️🍀
Thank you! ❤️
What did you say you put down first to get opacity of color then?
Love your cat's eye nails.
Notebook looks cool. Nice review
Thank you!
I’m dying to get my hands on one of these but they’re $50 in Canada 😩 Might have to gift myself one for 2021.
I know!! So expensive here with the conversion rate. I still think they’re worth it but it’s definitely a little painful lol
What's the difference between ghosting and bleeding?
Ghosting is when you can see a shadow of the colour through the page and bleeding is when the ink/paint actually sleeps through to the other side!
@@PlantBasedBride thanks!
Have you reviewed Baron Fig yet? I'd be curious to see what you thought.
I haven’t! It’s been on my list for a while, actually. I really should get my hands on one to review!
Best notebook for me 💙
Great to hear ❤️
Could you maybe review a notebook of Stationery Island?🤔🙂
I haven’t heard of them but I’ll go take a look!
I have been unable to master the skill not experiencing bleeding with watercolour in mine, it makes me very sad as my Scribble & Dot journals have handled it perfectly yet my A&O fox journal bleeds right through to the next pages. Any advice anyone? 😭
Ugh cat hair and dust are all over mind too 😩😩😩I wish the material was something other than cloth. How do you clean yours?
I just use a damp cloth! Apparently there are some vegan leather options though I don’t believe I’ve seen them 🤔
How do Copic markers/brush pens perform in it? I bought some copic markers with the idea of using them in my bujo but I have a very cheap one so it bleeds through BAD lol
I haven’t tried copics in it but I have a few so I can do a quick test! *edit: looks like they ghost pretty heavily and will bleed easily
Plant Based Bride omg that would be amazing! You rock! 💕
Thank you love it!
the second i saw your cat approved the notebook i liked the video...
Hahaha thank you for the support of my cat lady content 😂
Does anyone know how thesw hold up to fountain pens?
Is this your top favorite notebook?
I want this so bad, but I live in South Africa and it seems to be a hassle to get it. And there are no good options here!
They might have a stockist near you! They should have a list on their website ❤️
I can’t find that red Leo book anywhere 😭
It was given to me as a gift. I think they got it at urban outfitters?
The book is perfect, so I think it´s so irritating that the number are missing :(
By 80 pages do you mean 80 sheets of paper or 80 pages numbered like a book? I find it hard to believe that 80 pages holds 5+ months!
80 sheets, so 160 sides! I’m sorry that wasn’t clear 😅
Do they sell leather or synthetic types? I CANNOT deal with the feel of linen covers. Yick! Sensory issues. Waaaah. I really had my heart set on this brand for their thick pages but that scratchy, material cover just makes my skin crawl.
I’ve been told there are a few vegan leather cover options though I don’t believe I’ve seen them before!
Thank you so much for the reply!
I think I heard you say that you were going to offer a sticker page that had 12 stickers all of the same month? If so, add a note that those stickers will repeat every seven years. Seriously! January 2020 calendars will have the same layout as January 2027 calendars! ❤🌅🌵😷
Yes!! I definitely need to remember that ☺️
@@PlantBasedBride, people might be more inclined to buy the 1 month sheets if they know they'll be able to use them later on if they don't all get used up this year!? 💖🌞🌵😷
I’m sorta early coolio
😂❤️
i really wish archer and olive had an option for vegan leather covers. mine is so dirty all the time, lol
I agree but I also love the cloth 😭 I just wish my cats wouldn’t sit on my BuJo literally 24/7 so it wouldn’t be covered in fur lol
The ones with floral patterns are faux leather. I have one of them.
@@zina2376 but they aren't b5
I use a wood paint brush with the hairs cut short and it does the job
@@m.i.n.9000 oh I didn't know you were specifically looking for a B5. Well then I guess they have none of those
Despite the precise review - girl, those nails again
Haha aw thank you! They took forever to paint but I enjoy them ☺️
It was very interesting hearing you thoughts and your opinion on the A&O Journals, thank you 😊 .
I have purchased three of those myself and I can’t wait to test out the B5 sized Journal!
And I totally agree with you, the quick drying paper is both a blessing and a curse 😂.
