This was such a detailed, well made and useful video!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I’ve tried all three brands and I always go back to Notebook Therapy 😬 not only because I love their vibe, style and designs but mainly, because I do a lot of art and use many different mediums and in my experience, their paper handles it all beautifully! It’s funny ‘cause I have not had issues with smearing 😜 anyways, great job! Thank you for sharing all those details with us!
Thank you so much for the lovely feedback! It's so nice to hear that my videos have been useful. I do love my Notebook Therapy - but so much smearing! I have to be careful :)
I'm fairly new to bujo and have been looking for recommendations for journals. This video was super useful! Thanks very much for taking the time to record such a thorough review & comparison.
Thank you. I really like the STM, so I was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt because the second one I got was a bit faulty - everyone else has told me that their journal hasn't had any issues.
Great video, super helpful, and maybe this is a weird thing to say but you come across as a really lovely and genuine person. Thanks for making this review. I am /almost/ sold on STM but the thing that's really holding me back is I don't like the pre-made pages like the index and pen test. I love that they number their pages but I want a full customized journal for myself so having pages pre-made like that puts me off, sadly.
Thank you! 😃 not weird and very appreciated! The A&O and Notebook Therapy are both great journals, you wouldn’t be disappointed. I’m just finishing up in a Notebook Therapy and despite the smearing I’ve still loved using it - I’ve justhad to be super-careful 🙂
@@theusefuljournal Thanks! I ended up grabbing a Hemlock & Oak notebook, seems like they're a relatively new brand in Canada and I've heard it compared to A&O. It hasn't arrived yet but we'll see how it goes!
Oh my, I have a STM book this year and for several years, have never noticed those problems you had with that one. I really think you got that one in a thousand lemon. BUT have one issue with them this year in that the paper only comes in a bright white which is a little hard on the eyes. Used to be an offwhite. Great review.
I still really like them - that’s why they were my personal choice at the end of the video (and the first one I bought was fine). I have a strict rule about basing my reviews on the journal I receive. I’ve had a few people say they have had the odd problem. Nice to meet another ivory paper lover! I think white paper is a bit harsh too!
Thank you for this video. I love how much detail you went into, all of these points are exactly what I look for in purchasing. I think, here in Australia, free shipping is a huge tipping point. Regardless of the faults (which I agree is random), you have sold me on trying the STM. I am a purple girl through and through. I noticed they have an affiliate site, do you have a link for me to use for you?
I went with Notebook Therapy for 2024 solely based on price. It seems none of the Aussie distributors listed on A&O's website still stock their product. Its a shame because I really do like A&O a lot.
Yes, I raised this with A&O and they said they were setting up new wholesale arrangements in the first half of 2024. They really are one of the best quality 160gsm journals but I agree, the shipping is a killer. It’s weird because I’ve had journals shipped from Europe for €10, I can’t buy from the UK because shipping tends to be over £20 and the US can be pricey too. I don’t understand why it varies so much!
As a conscious spender American, I care a lot about the shipping. A&O shipping cost 10$ which to me is crazy!! I went with Notebook Therapy for their quality and free shipping
Totally agree. I am constantly amazed that I'm expected to pay more for shipping than the value of the actual product! And for some reason it's cheaper to get the same product shipped from Europe than it is from the UK or the US. Notebook Therapy journals are top quality and my only complaint is the smearing - I just can't seem to avoid it! Despite this, I've been very happy with my latest journal which was a Notebook Therapy.
As an American, the shipping doesn't influence my decision so I'm sooo grateful for the rest of the information. I had never heard of STB, so thank you! The smearing issue has always been my biggest frustration with any paper products (because I'm a stationary girl all around). I know now I won't want the notebook from NT however I love their washi tape and stickers, so I now know not to buy an all in 1 pack. Great info and help. 🙏🏻
Some people say they don't care about smearing but I get so upset when I spend ages on a page only for a pen to smear across my work 😞 NT do have great washi tape - I love their collections. If you're American, Archer & Olive is a solid choice - very reliable and good quality, but Scribbles that Matter is also great (and much better environmentally). Glad I could help.

Thank you so much. That’s good to hear ☺️ I remember when I was starting out and a good journal was such a big investment. I’m glad I could help!
Thank you for the review. I have STM and am very pleased with it so far.
