    Great fly..Thanks! 👍👍 A guy in Austin showed me this a few years ago. He travels all over the world to fish and has caught over 2 dozen different species on it. From bluegill to Tarpon here in the U.S. Wishing you and Mcfly subscribers the best for the coming New Year! 🎣

      thanks for the comment, yeah its a popular pattern that works for sure. One of my subscribers and customers (I sell flies) buys this pattern all the time to fish in Florida. He catches just about everything on it as well.

    Any suggestions on getting this fly to ride hook point up? I’m struggling to get them to ride correctly

      Slightly more weight with the dumbbells, angle the tail upwards a bit when tying in (technically downward if that makes sense)? It is gonna flutter a bit when sinking and sometimes it does hit the bottom with the hook not point up, but just play with the thickness of the body and such. Thinner body will help a bit, maybe use a little less materials. Also after fishing it for a minute or two the material will get waterlogged which will hold less air and therefore will not have air trapped under the fly to try and turn it ya know? Before casting maybe dunk it in the water and squeeze to get the air out. Once you cast some water will be released again but it will start the process faster. Good luck!

    Awesome fly and great tying! I have a feeling this would work really well for the striped bass here in the estuaries of the NJ coast !

      Thank you, and yeah it should. I know people who even use it for freshwater bass.

    The EP style fibers and tying technique are so versatile. High n low for a shad, tied all the way around for a mullet, or out the side like this crab pattern.
    I wanted an "injured shad" looking pattern that would sink on its side with a falling leaf action. No real retrieve, just a sink.
    Tied a shad profile but out to the sides of the hook. Like this crab pattern. It does sink flat with a wobble. Just tank tested tho, no real world test.

      That's cool, sounds like a good fly. Let me know how the fish like it.

    So wow. Down in Oregon - well I am in WA - well anyway they fish with stuff they find in the beach and I think they have every dumb thing there in the sand. So will this fly work for the Surf Perch there? Well I wonder? : )

    • @McFlyAngler
      @McFlyAngler  2 роки тому +1

      Yeah, I’m sure it would work for surf perch, but I’d tie it much smaller if so. I’ve surf fished California coast, not Oregon, but there I used flies like the crazy Charlie and gatcha’s for them. Pretty much anything made for bonefish should work well for surf perch

      @@McFlyAngler Why bonefish? When I think of those - then I think of lemon sharks and sight fishing in Florida. So why? : )

      I’m no expert on surf shrimp though, so take my advice with a grain of salt. Haha.

    I may have to tie a few of these up just in case i ever get onto the salt water 🤔

      @McFlyAngler  2 роки тому

      Yeah man, for sure. Tied in a bit smaller sizes they can work well for bass and sunfish also in freshwater

    Have you tied baitfish patterns with the water silk? I’m curious as to how it sinks and looks.
