I am so glad to have come across this! Thank you! A friend and I are doing staring out first Narrative Campaign this week! Lots of prep, but this video helped me a whole heck of a lot!
This guide was SO clear and well explained, I am shocked. This is amazing work, not only as a guide for wargaming, but as a guide in general. If the video explanations for the softwares I use were as clean and well constructed, work would be a pleasure. Thank you for the great job.
I was wondering, my friend and I are the only one who want to play kill team, and I wanted to sort of, run it like an RPG, with him having his kill team, and me playing as all opposing forces. How would I go about building the enemy kill teams? would I run a match play team against his Narrative team and just add some bonuses or what?
Our best advice is to ask your friend what they would like out of the experience. Are they interested in a power-fantasy story of their force, or do they want fun and quirky games (or a bit of both?)
@@StrategicAdvantage both, given it a shot And their prolouge game right now Was a last stand against aeldari, recreating the war in heaven before the necrons just, fell asleep, only, his dynasty fell asleep midfight, so awoke, a little worse for wear, hence starting at step 1
We started a narrative campaign recently and decided to place it in Olympia (Iron Warriors home planet) because it's in a spot in the galactic map that can justify ALL factions in the game to intervene. Also, we made up a requisition for 3/4 RP (number to decide) that allows adding a whole fireteam that was previously not in the roster (meant for cultists, poxwalkers, and such). The other thing that bugged us is that winning will earn a player nothing but the glory of wining itself and at the same time, we found that we don't earn requisition points fast enough. Are Spec Ops the only way to earn narrative rewards? Would it make sense to lower the number of games required from 5 to 3 to achieve a Spec Ops? (we playa a game or 2 a month)
I really like the idea of adding a whole fireteam at once with a chunk of RP! Really helps out horde fireteams 🤘🏻 certain teams do gain bonuses for winning that accelerates their growth, not only are you leveling up if you win (since your operatives are killing and scoring points) but the kommandos get a bonus if they max the primaries on a mission to snowball their RP, and they Can also spend RP to further boost the XP of an operative.
When do you "complete a game for + 1 RP"? After step 16 in the Narrative Play Mission Sequence? Or is a game completed if you get to step 14? Because if you get the +1 RP at step 14, you can spend that 1 RP in step 16 of the same game. Thanks for the help!
Technically you complete the game after 16 is resolved (see the text at the top of the narrative play sequence) and that’s when an additional RP is granted. That being said, if your group decides to award the RP after 14 and everyone does so that is completely ok as well! The great thing about narrative is that it’s flexible. It’s about fun first so your group can do whatever they like! Our narrative games we use accelerated XP game (no cap on XP gained per operative) so teams can level up and get crazy boosted faster!
Hey guys, does it mean when we roll between 2-5 the operatives get a battle scar but also you can get your exp from the battle between 1-8 exp ? Only when we roll 1 and 6 the operatives can't get exp? Is that correct? And when the operatives pass the Casualty Test, they can get max 3 exp. Right? Cheers :)
In the narrative game setup sequence there is a conversion for giving a matched team more CP and/or EP based on how many assets and battle honors your narrative team has. The narrative team can continue to complete spec ops and level up and honestly the bonus EP/CP levels the playing field quite well!

daaammn that's a great summary guys! really hyped to try this !
Glad you found it helpful! It’s a LOT of fun!
Looking forward to some spec ops
It’s such a great system, and allows you to level up and play even in games against people not in your campaign group!
Thanks for the informative video.

What is the number of players that can participate in a spec ops session?

I believe that’s right!
Is it possible to play a narrative team against a matched team? How?

Those cartoon caricatures are a bit cringey... everything else is worth a sub!
they remind me of the old road rash game characters
Haha! It’s not for everyone I suppose! Glad you like what we have to say at least 😁
Oh wow. I can’t unsee it now!
