How the LA Clippers Fumbled Two Golden Generations

  • After decades of consistent failure, the LA Clippers entered the 2011-12 NBA Season with an all-time trio; Deandre Jordan, Blake Griffin and Chris Paul. But unfortunately, the Lob City Era was plagued with injuries and underperformance in the post-season.
Soon after, the superstar duo of Kawhi Leonard and Paul George took over the reigns but again looked to have failed miserably.
The failure of these golden generations has been so severe that it has come to be known simply as the 'Clippers Curse.'

look at it, or you can look at it as the Clippers trading away their whole future, picks included to win now and not coming even close to winning it all. they gave up their future for years to come and further beyond just to win one chip and they couldn’t, didn’t even make a WCF. so sure u can say they both won but in reality the team with the brighter future won, the Clippers are damn near going to have to rebuild if PG doesn’t sign back. I think that 3-1 in 2020 was karma. They tampered with KL for a year, screwing the raptors in the process and then KL jerking the lakers around for over a week and having them miss out on other FAs. I think it came out later that it was possibly intentional. Since then they have had their normal bad luck but that 3-1 was something legendary with double digit leads in every game.

I remember the summer of 2019 when the Clippers were the 8th seed without any star, fighting the mighty Warriors , embracing the hustle and grit style of basketball and having a young stud name Shai along a veteran 6th man name Lou. Of course they lost it but it was fun to see them won 2 games against the Warriors. That summer when Kawhi came in town alongside with PG, i asked myself why he needed PG, since the Clips were young and coachable, with multiple assets and on the ascending path well beyond their curve. As for Kawhi, he will go down as one of the biggest "what if" of the 2010s and early 2020s NBA since he stopped two potential three-peats (the Heat and the Warriors), but his knee was like a candle, always be blown at the worst moment.

Kawhi was hidden in raptors team knew how to win in regular season was the #1 seed past 2-3 seasons kawhi just turned it up in playoffs , the difference with clippers is they traded all the picks for pg who wasn’t needed , the best squad the clippers had was that 2020 clippers it gave kawhi a break on offense, But 2021 was heavy on kawhi and clippers even tho that 2021 was deadly they came back 0-2 against the Mavs and that #1 seed jazz but unfortunately Joe ingles injured kawhi on a fast break bump , and year after year they traded their 2016-2019 core and flipped them into all catch and shooters and traded all their players that can create for their selfs on top of that Paul George being bad in bubble and kawhi and pg never playing together healthy since 2020

It never made sense to me for OKC to trade SGA for PG
When you’re trading all those 1st round picks for a player that already wants a trade, you do not just “throw in” a young upcoming star. SGA would have been the perfect 3rd piece with PG and Kawhi and they probably could have won a title with the 3 of them at some point, and I doubt PG would have left like he just did.

you probably didn't actually watch games and weren't watching them as a team in real time. They were the top 3 if not the best team in the west for years, super deep bench and were absolutely electric. DA & BG were playing with one of the best pure point guards to ever play, that's why & they had great perimeter shooters so you'd pay dearly for doubling. The newer Clips with Leonard, is a different story. You can't have your best player not be a leader, I remember when Leonard sat in the box seats one year in the playoffs when he was hurt instead of on the bench with his guys IN THE PLAYOFFS, that's the moment I knew that team would never have post season success. I have never before or after seen a injured player sit in the stands in the post season, that's insanity. Even very reserved guys like Tim Duncan was a vocal leader to his team when he needed to be.

They play their best when no one expects them to win, but when the whole world expects them to win they crumble as they prolly feel weird after being a sorry franchise.
And CP3 and Kawhi have the same story, they’re both capable of carrying but injuries stop them. And have an inconsistent 2nd guy, although I believe BG had more heart then PG.

The few people who actually watch whole basketball seasons, games & the people who understand the game of basketball know how elite & electric Lob City was. this narrative that Cp3 isn't a winner is absolutely baffling. He has sort of the LeBron effect in which he can join damn near any team and they become a playoff team or contender instantly no matter the roster. This narrative that everyone is always chirping about is completely backwards. Also Lob City was extremely deep, they're bench was stacked. They were a great team and just because they didn't win a championship does not make them a terrible team. I am in no way a Clippers fan, but I played for over 10 years, I coached and I do actually sit down and watch regular season basketball games (which as the years go on, less and less people do & just watch highlights and clips on social media) and I have religiously watched the NBA since 2006. I'm not saying that stuff because I am better than anyone, I am not. The only reason I am including that info about me is just to help validate what I am saying.
