  • How To, Harley Davidson Sportster Gas leak Fix.. The float needle valve is responsible for regulating the flow of fuel into the float bowl. When the tip of the valve becomes worn this prevents the closing of the valve. Fuel flows continuously into the bowl, Flooding the engine. Under severe conditions gas may soak the air filter and overflow out of the float bowl hose and onto the ground while parked. This will work on most Harley Davidson carburetor motorcycles

      I would dumped primary oil and motor oil.. And then I will check my Petcock because if there's gas in those fluids it's because you're Petcock failed and just poured fluid into the system. Obviously it smells like gas get rid of it, I'm gonna send you a video petcock Diaphragm test for vacuum. Take a look....ua-cam.com/video/7Fo9Q93OJXI/v-deo.html. What if I have gas POURING from the bottom holes in the carb but none coming from my overflow tube? I'm new to motorcycles and there not a dealership or anyone to work within an hour of my place. Do you think this may fix my problem and clean the overflow hose out?

    • @TwoWheelRocco
      @TwoWheelRocco  3 роки тому

      The overflow tube is probably clogged. So it's coming out the air holes on your carburetor. I would clean or replace the float needle jet. I tried to clean the float needle jet once, if it don't work buy a new one at dealer. And test your Petcock. take a look. ua-cam.com/video/7Fo9Q93OJXI/v-deo.html. First of all I enjoy you videos and thank you for your knowledge. I do have a question for you though. My wife has a 06 1200 low and I’m having a problem with something that looks like steam but smell like oil blowing out the 2 studs that go into the head, I’m guessing their blow by ports (I took some oil out of the oil take, I’ve seen where to much oil in it can cause this, I’ve got the dipstick reading towards the low side) it does it when the engine is hot and when I take the oil cap off the tank it’s sort of smoking out of the oil tank also. The oil sort of smells like gas, my question is can gas get in the oil and cause like a steamy/smokey out of the blow by studs and cause the actual oil tank to sort of put off smoke /vapor from gas??? It doesn’t smoke at all from the pipes and it only has 9,000 miles on it.

    • @TwoWheelRocco
      @TwoWheelRocco  3 роки тому +1

      Sounds like too much oil in the tank. Let's start there I'd like to see it halfway on your dipstick. Let's see how that works out. Then take for a good ride to burn up all the residue. I would check your Petcock for your diaphragm failing. Test.ua-cam.com/video/7Fo9Q93OJXI/v-deo.html Let us know how this works out. If your Diaphragm is failing your Carburator would be flooded with fuel. Keep an eye on your oil level but you would know by the running of the motor, if the Petcock was giving you a problem. so how does she idle and run? Thank you for watching and your sub Brendon. @@TwoWheelRocco ahhh alright thanks! I did clean the carb and then it started leaking.. Its new to me and it sat for a long time. I'm thinking the float needle isn't sealing, causing it to fill and then overflow? I didn't know that was an overflow hose, that makes sense if it is and the float's causing it to keep overfilling. Great videos btw! You're a tremendous help to us beginners!

    Thanks in advance if you find time helping diagnose my issue. Just bought a 2000 Sportster 1200. After a short ride, a few pieces shook loose. Obvious parts were fixed. An inside facing valve behind and under the carbonator immediately squirts fuel when the motor is off and the line is turned on. It seems a hose came off or is hiding. I'm not sure where to look first. To an experienced tech it seems like an easy fix. As a 68 year old DAV with cognitive challenges, I don't even know how to send a picture (unless it seems well with you to share an email address) of the valve in question. At your convenience anything you may suggest will help me, as a 12 year old wizard is not around to instruct. Blessings.

    I have a 1986 883. Replaced EVERYTHING inside the carb.. Ran beautiful one day, the next is dumping gas like fucking crazy (again)... I've owned ALLL kinds of bikes.. an this shitter here has given me the biggest headaches and taken the most out of my pockets. For the smallest shit. I honestly don't blame the newer riders for not buying HD. Over priced and ALWAYS needs to be "babied" Fuck, i found a kz thats 4 years older in a field next to a barn... $80 later an it turned over no problem.

    Rocco, great video! I have a gas leak from the overflow tube on my 2006 883R Sportster. I watched your video and it really helped me diagnose my problem. I think my problem is the float tip valve. I am at the point to where I am trying to remove the float pin the get to the float tip valve. Unfortunatley I cannot get the pin out. I looked at the repair manual and it said to push the pin out in the same direction as the arrow. I have tried knocking it out and am having a lot of trouble. How do you recommend I best get this pin out? It is frustrating because I am so close to the float tip valve inspection but can't get there!! Any help would be appreciate. Thanks, Paul

      I would remove the carburetor from the motorcycle. I would take a quarter inch deep socket and place it on the opposite end with the pin comes out. Take a hammer and a small finishing nail and just tap the pin. support the other side with the quarter inch deep socket. I hope This helps. Send a cell # and I will call to explain if you don't understand. Let us know how this works out.

    Hey Rocco, my bike definitely has this going on, but running into a problem, the two vents that are 9/16th's I believe? Happy to help. Take a closer look there might be an O-ring in there and that's giving you problems to get your socket squarely on that vent bolt. • @TwoWheelRocco
      @TwoWheelRocco  Рік тому

      A little auto pack or take a paper clip band it straight and put a little 90° on the end and fish it out. You probably smash them when you were trying to put your socket on it and that's why it was a slipping. Hope this helps. Let us know how it works out.

      @TwoWheelRocco okay that helped, was able to clean the needle. Last thing, the fuel overflow hose? It came off when the whole problem started, now that I've cleaned it, I know you said older models, the hose is next to the starter, and I've looked and looked, but can't find anything that looks like it plugs into. It's my last issue, yhank you so much Mr. Rocco sir.

    • @TwoWheelRocco

      @@gaitanamtz That hose is an overflow. You could run it buy the starter or you can run it up front by the oil filter. It just is an open hose plugged into the bottom of your float bowl. Hope this helps..
