ABOUT THIS FILM

Barn owls eggs laid unseasonably early
Barn owls normally lay their eggs in springtime, so that the chicks hatch during warm weather. But, this barn owl pair attempted to raise their family in the middle of winter.
Keeping eggs warm in the winter
This barn owl pair laid their eggs in January. Watch as the female Willow incubates three eggs around the clock, sitting tight to keep her eggs warm.
Fierce snow storms
Just five days before the eggs are due to hatch, Britain was battered by furious storms, and the eggs threaten to come just as Storm Eunice, which brought devastating damage to the country, moved on, and Storm Franklin blew in.
Flying is difficult for the owls
As strong winds, heavy rain and snowstorms swept across the country, Willow and Ghost struggled to fly to and from the nest to deliver food.
First barn owl egg hatches
That night when Willow stands I notice a crack in the egg shell on my live cam. Willow removes the shell and we catch a glimpse of the first chick, which my subscribers name Skye.
First feeds
In the first hours of its life, when the chick is barely able to sit upright and its eyes are still shut, the barn owl mom Willow feeds it small morsels.
Two days later and the 2nd owlet hatches
Barn owl eggs don’t hatch all at once. Chicks emerge from their eggs with 2-3 day delays. This is known as asynchronous hatching. And so 2 days later, I notice there’s a pip in the second egg. Right on cue, the 2nd chick, we name Spirit, is hatching.
Five days after the first, the 3rd hatches
The third chick arrives three days later. This baby barn owlet gets named Echo. There are five days between the eldest and the youngest, Skye now already twice this young chick's size.
Barn owl mealtimes
Willow's chicks need feeding regularly. Willow tears voles, mice and shrews into tiny pieces and feeds them to her young in turn. The fact that the chicks hatched 5 days apart gives them the best chance for survival since it minimizes a peak in their food demand by spacing it over a longer period.
Owlets eyes open
At 11 days old, the eldest, Skye begins to open her eyes and can sit up alone. Although she’s much larger than her siblings, she still can’t quite manage swallowing large pieces of food and all three still rely on Willow to feed them.
Barn owls first steps
As the warmer spring weather starts to arrive, Skye becomes too big to brood and, no longer reliant on mum Willow for warmth, she begins to take her first steps exploring the nest.
Learning to swallow
Finally this barn owl chick learns to swallow her food whole. This is a major milestone in her development. After such a stormy start to their lives, it's amazing to see these chicks thrive.
Next time
Subscribe to my channel to watch the next instalment from this barn owl nest, as Willow's brood turn from helpless chicks to cheeky individuals.

Skye sitting on her mother’s back safely tucked away under Willow’s folded-up wings and sleepily resting her head on Willow’s shoulder was one of the sweetest things I’ve ever seen 😭❤️
6:24
Can you imagine how cosy and soft that would be!
I cried tears of joy when I saw that!
An absolutely beautiful moment.. and we are all truly blessed to be witness to such a thing.
Flippin' adorable!☺
This tender facial expression from 0:15 was for you, she knows you are there. 💖
Yes.. Sort of a 'wink and a nod' in the world we live in! These special birds and animals living under Robert's giant umbrella will always be doubly Blessed! The care that is tenderly rendered from the heart through Robert and his team is priceless ❣️
Willow was determined to keep that nest! So glad everything turned out well.
She really was! Didn't waste any time starting her brood this year
Ghost always hoped she'd go for the tower, but nope! Willow had her own ideas :)
I'm glad Ghost got the memo about food deliveries for this year, he's shaped up into a solid dad!
Ye previously he was bad dad and was indirectly responsible for one of his kids death
Willow os being such a Good mother :'3,and Ghost is being a better father then last time.
What happened last time?
@@evanburke2766 he not bring enough food
@@evanburke2766 he acted like his name suggests. He went poof.
@@Lillythepanda123 Ghost was scared away by Willow's demands for food for their chicks and herself. I can still remember her screeching at the top of her voice at Ghost when he brought in a smaller prey (A lizard if I remember correctly), while she was brooding. 😂🦉❤️
Ghost was tired of paying child support in mice lol
I’ve watched this video many times, and it moves my heart so much. Willow and Ghost are so devoted parents and care so much for their chicks, and it is so wonderful to see. Willow is truly a wonderful mother.
It hurts my heart that Willow is missing, especially now when she has been so excited and diligent about preparing a nest for a new brood of babies.
I hope she will be come home and be safe and sound, and that our lovely shining Star will too. Please be safe, Willow and Star ❤️
it's amazing to see Ghost stepped up his game from his last year's brood.
And Skye being hatched on a stormy night... I name thee "Skye Stormborn"
Willow is such a beautiful owl, a fabulous Mother and I love her Warrior Princess attitude.. Ghost has also rubbished his doubters and proved that he is a great Father both in hunting and caring for the chicks before and after they have fledged. I love to see them having the odd late night cuddle on the FP whilst gathering food for their young.
Mother and father doing such a great job! Quite heartwarming really.
It was so beautiful to see the three of them after fledging and how tolerant Willow and Ghost were of feeding them diligently even when they could fend for themselves.
Oh, Skye cuddling with Willow and yawning was so cute! I think my heart melted a little.
I'm so pleased to see Ghost got a better hang of it this go round! Brought lots more food! He was always quite the hunter, even when he first came around and was never one to rely on the food post
Willow is such a tender mother just warms my heart.
Touching moment with Skye under Willows wing and then nestled in Willow's beautiful soft feathers. A beautiful moment between mum and baby Skye. A world of thanks Robert 😍
Thanks isn’t it nice 👌 to see her popping out from under her wing
These breeding pair are excellent parents that do their job well. That shot of willow with skye popping out of her wing is so special.
Yes CUTE ☺️ or what !
@@RobertEFuller yeah and that shot where Willow is looking at the camera as though she is asking, “Robert, what do I do now?”
I remember James Herriot describing the winter wind up on the Yorkshire Dales as a 'Lazy Wind'. It is lazy because it does not bother to go around you ... it just cuts straight through! Thanks Robert.
She’s a great mother and he’s a great father. Wonderful parents.
6:25 This looks like how Swan can carry her children on her back
Oh, those scenes of the wind and snow blowing really brought back memories of Yorkshire, waiting at the bus stop for the school bus, the wind just cutting right through you. Then suddenly, it was Spring with cowslips and violets blooming. Thank goodness that with your help, these birds are surviving.
6:30 This looks like a human like expression of joy!
Beautiful editing and content! This family is adorable.
6:25 That has to be one of the cutest things I have ever seen.
I know plenty more cuteness to come
Poor Ghost he had to go out into the cold and strong winds. He's done great the second time!
Because Ghost has to be outside of Sycamore (otherwise will be squashed with Willow), think that has an influence as well to why he wasn't around much the first time as doesn’t have the feel, on top of being inexperienced.
The early start for those chicks translates into a nice, long, growth period during Spring and Summer --- well before the stresses of Fall and Winter, when many small critters hibernate.
Beautiful photography and commentary. Thank you.
Such a great father and partner!! Assuring his mate gets fed!! 🥰🙏🏼💁🏼♀️💕❤️🫶🏼😍
6:31-That. That face. That right there. You're welcome, everyone.
Bravo REF and team! It is so heartwarming to watch. You have beautifully captured the wonder I felt as I watched Ghost and Willow raise their family!
I will cherish this video I miss willow 😥😪
Lovely to watch this video, and see everything again like this. Amazing parents they are Willow and Ghost and all went well even if the weather was hard ! Looking forward to the next part! 🥰
I remember when I saw willows feathers blowing in the cold wind willow is a wonderful mom and ghost is so dedicated to his family
I really like barn owls like 😍😍😍😇
They are just brilliant 🤩
Each and every one of these creatures now occupies a place in our hearts and minds. Thank you Robert for your amazing work, wish you and your team all the best. 🙂
Thanks everyone’s support means a lot to us all here
What a precious little family.
Awww....I love it when the live videos pop up and let me see these beautiful owls. It's GREAT to stop and see nature when ever you get a chance. Life is TOO short to really enjoy it like we should. Now that I'm retired, I LOVE being outside and watching things grow and the singing of the birds and learning more about them. Thanks for your wonderful videos Robert. We truly need MORE people like you in this world.
Spring watch is good but this gives you a better chance of getting to really enjoy nature at it's best.
2:22 “this my baby!”
Their tenacity is amazing!
Willow is so smart she knows that going out would be fatal for her eggs in the harsh weather
The owl is a very great mother. She fears for her children, raises them with a good upbringing and teaches them many things to adapt to the environment around them. It is a currency like human beings.
Ali and her children also protect them and teach them how life looks and learn many things to adapt to the environment around them

My favourite owl. So beautiful.

Night one was scary. Conjuring type 🤣🤣
Such tender moments. Also I some luck with where Mummy owl placed herself, the food and the chicks to get the perfect angle for the video of her feeding the little ones! Lovely scenery as always.
I really hope Willow has another batch this year.
The way that the mother barn owl turned to looked down at her baby had me balling my eyes out lmfao. 😂🤣 6:31
