I'm surprised this video doesn't have any comments yet. What a fascinating story, start to finish. I'm receiving my first Edge rod this week and knowing the man and story behind it's creation will make it an even bigger pleasure to fish with.

I love this interview. Not many people know about his Edge Rods. My friend let me try one and I immediately purchased one online the next day! They are seriously amazing rods!!

I had a 7 1/2 foot IMX 2 piece spinning rod custom made in Sydney for me to Gary's specifications in 1995 and I still have it to this day. Performance is right up there with more expensive present day rods costing three times more in todays dollars...

Incredible story. I had know idea Gary wasn't still with G. Loomis. That is to bad. The guy is a legend. I almost feel cheated buying probably a dozen G. Loomis rods over the years. There still solid rods but without Gary behind the rod it doesnt feel the same.

If I could ever spend a day sharing experiences regarding materials/techniques/fishing with Gary I would end up a very humble guy. Dennis kowal

Gary figured it out early. When fishermen were convinced that it was the rod that catches the fish and not the angler he could charge whatever he wanted and people would buy it.

He sounds like a huge BSer ???? Who knows ??? maybe he builds the best rod? Has anyone fished these rods?

You've never heard of the Loomis name before!? Do you even fish? The second you pick one up you can feel it's something special.

Hey Forrest Gump, he hasn't designed a gloomis rod in over 10 years. Plus the gloomis rods never impressed me. And gloomis fly rods are middle of the line rods sage are the benchmark. But his edge rods do intrigue me. But search edge rod complaints and you will see hundreds of people not satisfied with his rods. I think gary is a good steal head guy and that might be where it ends. His inshore rods ???? might not past muster for salt creatures.

His bass rods, the NRX and glx imx
Nothing is better. They are the standard for high end rods.

Hookset -- TY for the input. I have heard good things about GLoomis inshore now, but the same folks are telling me GLoomis inshore are nice but OVER priced. Gary has been gone 15+ years now ????

Even with him being gone for a long time, their quality held true.
      They are expensive.
But you get what you pay for. I've had a few for years. Ca t even consider anything else
