    Thanks for the video. Very helpful.
    However, not being the mechanical type, I’m struggling with the basic assembly of the rails. Can you show how every piece fits together?

    Very nice! I’m about to put roof racks on the 2004 Honda CR-V that I bought recently. It only has 74,000 miles and is in mint condition. May add the carrier rack now too. Great info, thanks for sharing 👍🏻💥👏🏻🙏🏻

    What do u think about 2" wheel spacers, think it's a good idea?

    • @mikesbackyardmechanic
      @mikesbackyardmechanic  2 роки тому +1

      Hello there! 2" wheel spacers along with wider wheels would definitely increase the outward profile look of the wheels. It's really up to the kind of look you want. Keep in mind, unless you flared out the wheel wells significantly with fender flares, you will have a lot more mud and road splash freely flying onto the sides of your vehicle. Your wheel base would increase and make the vehicle more stable, an added benefit for off-roading. Great question, let's see what thoughts others may have...

    How’s the road noise with the rack?

    • @mikesbackyardmechanic
      @mikesbackyardmechanic  Рік тому +1

      Hello there! Good question, when you get to speeds over 55 mph you do begin to notice some wind noise on the rack, below that speed you don't here much of anything. The noise is not excessive. Thanks for watching, commenting, and subscribing to our channel!

    Do tires and ride height affect road performance on corners and or gas mileage?

    • @mikesbackyardmechanic
      @mikesbackyardmechanic  2 роки тому

      Hello there! The ride of the vehicle does change slightly. It drives and feels more like a truck, higher view, stabler handling due to the increased width, and slightly wider turns, can traverse much deeper ditches and mud holes. The trade-off is that gas mileage is affected slightly as the engine works more to turn the bigger tires. The biggest effect on gas mileage is installing the roof rack due to increased wind drag. But the rack does help to substantially complete the off-road look. Thanks for watching and commenting!

    You gonna do a bull or push bar?

    • @mikesbackyardmechanic
      @mikesbackyardmechanic  2 роки тому

      Good question... still debating. We want it to look good, not chincy, even considering not putting one if we can't find one that looks right. There is only a couple options out there designed specifically for this Gen CRV. May have to do custom one, or modify one made for another vehicle. Should be an interesting episode! Thanks for watching!

    How does it sound at highway speeds from inside the car

    • @mikesbackyardmechanic
      @mikesbackyardmechanic  Рік тому

      Hello there. At highway speeds you can hear wind noise on the rack, it's not deafening, but noticeable. Probably typical with any roof rack. Thanks for watching, commenting, and subscribing to our channel!

    What’s your mpg after the bigger tires and lift ?

    • @mikesbackyardmechanic
      @mikesbackyardmechanic  2 роки тому

      Hey there, mpg appears to have dropped 1 or 2. One would think with the bigger tires it would go up. We noticed that the engine runs at a higher RPM now. It may be that the 4-speed engine has to work harder with the bigger tires. Not really sure. Would welcome some feedback on that if anyone has any further knowledge. In any case, it's a totally different feel when driving it than before. It feels like a 'big' SUV/truck now in the way it sits higher and the way it handles. Thanks for watching and commenting! Ok - I got my rails and the screws were way too long (25mm, cut them down to about 16mm) but is now installed! Yay! However, the CRV rails are fixed and the cargo cage I want doesn't have hardware with the ability to shift - so may not work. This is a process when you're poor 😛

    So this is 'just for looks'? I want a roof rack BUT the 150lb rating is dead weight only. Once moving, the weight limit significantly drops; and, if off-roading, it's not recommended to put 'anything' on the rack with all that lateral movement. How has your rack survived so far? Have you put anything heavy on it and tackled some potholes?

    • @mikesbackyardmechanic
      @mikesbackyardmechanic  2 роки тому +1

      Hello there! Yes the roof rails are not industrial grade, but it has worked fine with no issues thus far. The cargo rack however is HEAVY DUTY and looks as new as the day I put in on, excellent rack. Overall, the setup will definitely hold 150lbs without issue. Thanks for your comments and watching our channel!

    Leaving the roof rack on will significantly reduce gas mileage at highway speeds.
