The drummer Kanade Sato is recognised as one of Japan's leading drummers and , like Li-sa-X was a " child prodigy winning awards as young as aged 11 ( she's still only 21 ) . Li-sa-X has been playing guitar publicly since a ridiculously young age ( she's now an ancient 19 years old ) . There's some great footage of her on stage at the all female Naon No Yaon festival in 2017 when she was 12 holding her own and jamming with some of Japan's top female guitarists . Hazuki who is now single handedly carrying the burden of guitar for Nemophila needs no introduction . The vocalist Kotono has a beautiful soft unique voice and was a former Idol singer with Iron Bunny . These are the permanent group members - the guest bassist is Wakazaemon - hence probably the I-pad ( formerly of East of Eden ) and bassist for ex Megadeth guitarist Marty Friedman's band ( who she will be touring South America with in 2025 ) . Sorry for the " War and Peace " length comment - but this band deserve it - so much talent .
BTW - talking of talent I think you'd love a band called ASTERISM - a 3 piece with yet another child prodigy on guitar called Hal-Ca and a superb bass player called Miyu & his brother Min on drums . If you do decide to check them out this might be a good introduction - " Rising Moon " - ua-cam.com/video/IfxMi0Bx4x0/v-deo.html - bearing in mind Hal-Ca was only 16 when this was recorded . 🙏

Great new-ish band formed by Li-sa-X and Hazuki (Guitars) in 2022. They enrolled Kotono on Vocals soon after, then Kanade on drums later with Wakazaemon currently guesting on Bass, but hopefully becoming a member after her commitments elsewhere during this year. This is a super group with fantastic abilities and a mix of musical back grounds. Resulting in what you see and hear here. The drummer plays piano (backing track) and the bass player also sings. Try the song Come See Me Official Music Video for a contrast.

Kanade Sato is a drummer without limits. She's a beast on the skins. A BEAST!
    She's a drumming jazz master.

I said "buckle up" because it's a roller-coaster ride of a performance. Li-Sa-X has been on the scene (even internationally) since she was 7-8 years old. A true prodigy. This song is a one off of their normal sound. But this one performance is just too damn impressive to not share

it is remarkable the amount of talent in rock and metal from japan in about the last 15 or 20 years -especially the all female bands. i was completely unaware of it until viewing a youtube suggestion in 2016 for BAND MAID. the song was the mv 'real existence' and it shocked me. thinking it might be a one and done i punched up the next song of theirs suggested which was 'the non fiction days'. needless to say it was just as good so i branched out to other bands. DESTROSE , SCANDAL, GACHARIC SPIN , and LOVEBITES shortly after. never looked back and i am totally immersed. there are now many more bands and they just keep coming. newer entries are KOIAI , HAGANE , PARADOXX , PALENEO , EAST OF EDEN - all amazing groups.

Yep, I agree that Japan is oozing talent. And I also agree with you, that goes of course for the musical side, but also for the visual presentation of it. 🔥🤘🏻

Congratulations on finding Koiai (formerly Lisa-X Band) (Koy-eye). They were my pick for best new band of 2024.
The word “prodigy” gets thrown around way too much. In this case, it is fully deserved. Lisa-X has been posting music on youtube since she was seven, did credible covers of Dream Theater and Polyphia at 10, and has had her own band since she was 13. The core members of Lisa-X band were Lisa-X, Rina on vocals and Hazuki, formerly of Disqualia and now the lead guitarist for Nemophila, on co-lead guitar.
Here she is doing a playthrough with Hazuki on “Just Be My Treasure”:
    ua-cam.com/video/mN_oLqTka6M/v-deo.html
“One More Chance Is Enough” with Billy Sheehan (!) on bass (Sheehan is on the consensus short list of candidates for best rock bassist in the world).
    ua-cam.com/video/PzsqmnEa89c/v-deo.html
Rina left the band in 2022 and they took a hiatus to rebuild. They re-emerged as Koiai, and can legitimately claim to be a supergroup. Kotono joined them after stints with various groups including Ironbunny and a previous collaboration with Lisa-X. The big catch was Kanade Sato on drums. Sato is also a member of Muses and is in big demand as a session drummer. She is often compared with the already legendary Senri Kawaguchi. Wakazaemon has been appearing as a guest on bass. She frequently tours with Marty Friedman and was also a member of East of Eden.
Here are two more links worth checking out. The first one is Lisa’s 2017 appearance at the annual female rock festival organized by Show-Ya-she is up there with some of the best guitarists in the world and they clearly love sharing the stage with her. The second one is her collaboration with the even younger drum phenom, Yoyoka Soma, who is herself a force of nature.
    At NaonのYaon (age 12): ua-cam.com/video/hbeW7Yuf-a0/v-deo.html
    With Yoyoka: ua-cam.com/video/B97HKxg4Cwk/v-deo.html
Here are more links to Koiai:

Overall, rock is not only in good hands, but arguably has been taken over by Japanese women. The future looks great!

All being said, this was a "strange" song for me as well when I first heard it - but I loved it so much I was almost (not really :)) disappointed when their other songs were "normal" melodic Prog of high complexity and not this crazy cabaret! The singer fits like a glove in other songs as well, trust us. And I do not know where the ceiling is for this band - is there even? Considering they are only starting... hope they consolidate and do not disperse into numerous bands, as the Japanese Metal scene is pretty dynamic. But KOIAI is a keeper for sure, they need to develop together, hope it goes down like that! If the demon Wakazaemon stays with them on the bass, I think they might be, talent-wise, the cream of Japan, even a nail above my beloved LOVEBITES.... happy they are not exactly playing the same style, so the stage shall be big enough!
And I loved your efforts to see through the mist if there was actually a piano... not sure, probably not! It was literally piano out of the blue! :D

    “Japan is oozing with talent”
I think this is a special case too, insomuch as I would put Li-sa-X in a top 2 for female Japanese guitarists (next to Hal-ca), and Kanade Sato in a top 2 as well for drums (next to Senri Kawaguchi). Just so you know, their song ‘Come See Me’ is closer representation of their sound, while their official site describes the group as a rock band (not metal). They can play anything though.
    “I’m an ex drummer”
Then I think you should check out their drummer Kanade Sato: ua-cam.com/video/fi9dpxE-QRU/v-deo.html
Edit: Apparently Koiai just put up a cover on Lisa’s channel called Blazing Heart: ua-cam.com/video/KNXlsGt-Seg/v-deo.html

@@outwest1014 For female Japanese drummers, I mainly recommend jazz drummers Senri Kawaguchi and Kanade Sato (for more variation of technique), as no metal drummers are at their level. Even for 3rd place, I would have to go with Yoyoka. Junna is a very good drummer though, and likely the best metal female drummer from Japan.

@@SomethingToDo360 I've seen them all, I stopped ranking musicians and bands in the 80's. I listen to what I like, and don't worry about #1, or #100.
Why, where would you rank Keith Moon relative to the ladies of Japan??

    • @SomethingToDo360
      @SomethingToDo360 10 днів тому

@@outwest1014 Not only do I not rank men against women (men have advantages here, one of which is sheer numbers as well), I don’t even rank outside the country either. Why? Even different body types have advantages and disadvantages, like how it could be that Western singers have some advantage over East Asian bands from their bigger body type (like Floor Jansen), in how it suggested that there could be a better vocal resonance from a bigger body (like how fat/big opera singers might have an advantage). Even with lesser known Western singers like Kristin Starkey (another big woman like Floor), you can look up her cover of Tonight We Ride, then imagine her in a Japanese band.
“I listen to what I like”
Sure, that is why I listen to Koiai apart from just reaction videos. I think if you’re only listening to a band during reaction videos, then it’s probably not what you actually like, and more about just impressing reactors. Admittedly though, some of that actually happens to me for Lovebites.

A lot of of us have simply moved on from NA music because it doesn't suit our taste anymore. Thankfully, this part of the world has stepped up.
