Another point in favor of tiger's lust is that it can target other players. You can help your Death Knight or Pally DPS sprint around, since their mobility is so limited. Helps you bring a bit more utility. That said, I run chi torpedo :P
Awesome guide mate. I really want to play something other than my Shaman. Either Paladin or Monk. This guide is helping convince me Monk may be the way to go
Great info thnx! I'm working on making one of every tank class and gearing them up and trying them out, that way i can always have a good idea of the tools of the person I am co-tanking with. Also it's helpful if i ever need to play another type of tank for progression. I honestly expected to think brewmaster's were lame until i saw their talents, black ox statue looks neat, same with the other black ox thing you can summon that attacks your primary target. If nothing else it seems like it would be really fun to play with.
Thank you! I highly recommend at least dabbling in every tank class to anyone who has the time and interest, so it's awesome that you're going for it! Diversifying will make you a better player overall, and without question gives you a better appreciation for class balance. Black Ox Statue isn't the greatest talent for M+, but it is a unique utility and can be a very useful tool in raids whenever there are constantly-spawning adds. Now that Antorus progression is completed for a large number of guilds, Niuzao has actually taken off as a top-tier DPS talent, although its value is heavily dependent upon encounter length. Basically, for encounters that allow you to use it on cooldown - and the fight ends shortly after Niuzao despawns - it's the best DPS option in the tier. Its usage rate is still extremely low (around 7% of top DPS parses compared to >75% of parses using Rushing Jade Wind) because it requires you to know roughly how long the encounter will last to determine whether it will be good or not. Still, it looks great and at least it's finally usable some of the time! Have fun playing Brewmaster, they're awesome!
Absolutely! I use ElvUI for my unit frames and action bars, and you can find my ElvUI profile here: wago.io/S1eKgc5LG. I also use the ElvUI AddonSkins plugin to make non-ElvUI addons look like they fit in. I use WeakAuras 2 for the ability icons you see around the lower-middle of the screen, and you can find my Brewmaster WeakAuras profile here: wago.io/VJQ3RMoFf I use Deadly Boss Mods (the timer bars showing time remaining between boss abilities), Omen Threat Meter (the small window toward the right side of the screen), Details! Damage Meter (meter in the bottom-right corner), and GottaGoFast (the instance timer on the right side). Hope this helps!
im curious as to why you think tiger palm is the priority over kegsmash when using BoC, how does more damage beat 2 additional seconds off of a brew? and in what way does dps make your survivability increase? other than way of the tiger healing i have no idea how dps could be the most important thing to a brewmaster. i know faster reduction of cooldowns is better but that doesnt directly relate to dps in anyway. there are so many things you dont explain even slightly about this spec.
1) Increased Brew recharge rate correlates poorly to damage reduction. Even when damage intake is high, repeated uses of Purifying Brew have massively diminished returns. The Ironskin Brew duration cap also factors in heavily, making increased Brew recharge rate pointless in any tank-swap scenario. This is a major factor in why Haste is such a horrendous stat for Brewmasters. 2) Dead enemies deal no damage, and damage does not care whether it came from the tank or a DPS-specced player. In Mythic+, this directly translates to "Do more damage, take less damage." In raid, it comes out as "If you're not maximizing your DPS, you're shortchanging the raid." 3) Survival is binary. Either you survive or you don't. Once you can do so comfortably, adding on more survival is irrelevant. Adding on more DPS is always valuable, as enemies die faster. Let me know if there is anything else I can clarify.
Loving the guide, I'm finally getting around to playing bm. Question for ya: why isn't blackout comboed ironskin more important? It seems strong to me, but then I'm very green at this.
Great question! Overall, I would say that Blackout Combo'ing ISB is a useful niche skill that definitely comes in handy against huge burst damage spots like Argus Scythes. In general, it's a useful tool for getting a little more survival than your base ISB provides without popping a defensive cooldown, and it can definitely save your bacon in tight spots. The reason it's not emphasized heavily and used more often comes down to a high opportunity cost and (generally) low reward. Comboing Ironskin Brew is a good, cheap defensive cooldown for a couple of seconds and helps you avoid getting ticked down by Stagger when you take a huge strike, but there are two problems. First, it costs damage output by requiring you to spend a Blackout Combo on ISB instead of Tiger Palm. This is why Combo'ing ISB isn't used more often, but it's definitely the smaller issue; tank damage *is* important, but tank survival is way more important. The bigger issue is that Stagger can't kill you (I haven't re-checked this recently, but it has been true since MoP), so any hit large enough that would make you want to freeze Stagger is probably dangerous enough to justify just using a bigger defensive cooldown such as Dampen Harm/Fortifying Brew.
WoW at Night I think I understand. Most of the situations where it would be useful are places where you'd probably be better off using your proper defensives, although there are occasions where it can be helpful. Between writing the comment and your reply, the thought that crossed my mind was that a comboed ISB kinda really pushes you to purify after to take advantage of the extra buildup, and as you mentioned, purifying isn't wise if it might let your ISB drop off. Thanks for the reply, it's definitely appreciated! Just starting out tanking and I know a lot of it is practice practice practice, but the advice is very helpful.
Thanks hopefully this helps with mage tower, and if not i'll have to get more gear. Alas its an alt with far more haste than i'd like since argunite gear is full on rng. Hopefully get a good leggo to go along-side my grandmaster ring.
We believe Llarold was writing the WoWhead guide back then, but it's been a long time. We have new Brewmaster stuff on the channel these days. Thanks for watching! We are responding to all old comments to remove them from our comment queue.
any chance we could get your ElvUI string? I really like this layout compared to what i've put together... Also your WeakAuras are really helpful as well! Great guide! Thank you for this.
WoW at Night heck yes. Gonna check this out tonight. Sweet!! What about the Weak auras ? Do you care to share that? Or is it all in the link you provided? You’re welcome for the kind words btw. Definitely makes me eager to mess with BM again.
You can find a collection of my Weakauras here: wago.io/VJQ3RMoFf I haven't put together a collection for my ElvUI setup, but it's on the list. A video, perhaps!
Thanks for the love! First up, here is a link to my ElvUI profile: wago.io/S1eKgc5LG You can also find my collection of WeakAuras here: wago.io/p/Llarold As for addons, I use Elvui (obviously), the AddonSkins plugin for ElvUI, WeakAuras, DeadlyBossMods, and Details! Damage Meter.
Hey mate i want know are you use target scale on your nameplates? and if you use what is your percent for target scale and non-target transparency. P.S. you have verry nice UI i start to use too, just amazing. ty for sharing your Elvui profile
I like it. Gives u time to pause video between points to look stuff up. gives time to think. none of the Hi guys buttnuggets gaming here with another brewmaster blah blah blah video. more professional. more in line with broadcast standard. less youtubey and stupid. jsut my opinion
Damn. I was interested in playing a Brewmaster and then watched this guide and it turned me off the class. Two leggos are a must, T21 items suck, 1 relic choice and its a relic that's rare, weapon dmg irrelevant, all that for a class that doesn't bring anything unique to the table. Time capsule indeed. Seems like Blizzard is intent on this class going extinct.
I hate to shy someone away from Monk, since it is so immensely satisfying once everything is working the way you'd want. Unfortunately, it's true that the class has much more stringent gearing requirements than the other five classes. It's a real bummer!
1:00 was unexpected randomly watching this in 2022 lol
Whew, glad that prediction didn't come true!

Same!
A really great guide on a really fun class. Enjoy your content and soundtrack choices.
Thank you very much! Top-tier comment! =D

Peaks of serenity and wowhead both differ to the rotations in this vid.
But mainly as they don't list specifically shoulders only. Any thoughts?

kiopl2003 its an excellent quality video, the frequent pauses just take away from the flow of it.
different strokes for different folks
indeed
haha, i kinda like it. it reminds me of an instructional video from the 90's. Kind of has a nostalgic feel to it :D
