@BriggsStratton11 I don't know for sure, but many of these pro-stock and super-stock tractors don't always start out as a tractor. They are component built. Custom frame, rear end, highly modded engine. The only thing that gives them a model number is the sheet metal. I may be wrong, but looking at these machines up close, there is nothing OEM except the hood.
@farmerallis I skimmed thru rules to learn more. Unlimited Super Stock: Max 650cu.in. Fuels allowed: alcohol, diesel, or gasoline. Up to 4 turbos, & up to 3 pressure stages. Overhead cam is ok. Pro-Stock: Max 680cu.in. ONLY DIESEL. No other fuels. Water injection ok, but nothing combustible in the water. Only ONE turbo allowed. Intercoolers are ok. Super-Stock: Must have OEM or replica in original location. Up to 4 turbos. There are tons of other rules & classes. It's hard to digest it all.
@stormrider620331 I could not have said it better myself ! The exhaust from a 10 second tractor pull is a drop in the bucket compared to the 100,000+ plane flights around the world per day. The families in the tractor pulling hobby are usually food farmers, dairy farmers, and real contributors to society often donating time, goods, and money to worthy organizations within their area. (food shelves, animal shelters, churches, etc) They deserve to have some fun.
@tkosabian15 This particular tractor uses Diesel as primary fuel. They also inject a mixture of alcohol (methanol usually) and water, to give it more power, and it also helps to keep the engine cool. As you see the smoke start to turn solid black, that's when the water injection is under way, and the engine is making max horsepower. Some tractors run on pure alcohol, and dont produce visible smoke. See my Silver Bullet video for that one.

Also, with boost pressures like that, they have to reduce the compression of the engine, in order to fit all that fuel, alcohol & water into the cylinders. With such low compression, the engines sometimes start hard, often requiring use of ether (starting fluid) until warmed up a little.

The carbon in carbon dioxide is used with sunlight and water to manufacture the plants food. Carbon makes up part of the glucose molecule (C6H12O6). Therefore, CO2 is a needed component for plants to make their food.

Just in case the bottom of the crankcase blows out and it pukes oil all over the track - I'd like to have that on video. Jet fuel is VERY similar to diesel and kerosene as all three are light fuel oils refined from crude and are interchangeable in most applications. This tractor could run on Jet fuel. Alcohol is totally different and is distilled from some sort of grain. E85 fuel is an alcohol/gasoline blended fuel.

Sseveral turbos, various water/methanol injection systems, even computer data loggers to monitor different temps points, pressures, flows, RPM's, etc. If you ever get to see one of these with the hood open, there is more plumbing on display than a vasectomy clinic at high noon.
These are not farm tractors. They never were. It's a souped up pulling machine, with a diesel engine, several turbos, expensive rims & tires, and some John Deere sheet metal & stickers.
They aren't a million dollars but still plenty of money. Its all about the adrenaline rush and the pulling community. No other motorsport is like pulling. were all one big family I too get bored at pulls though if im not pulling or helping another competitior
@saibhy Why ? Because he burned a 2.5 gallon mixture of diesel with water/methanol injection over the course of 12 seconds ? Are you concerned with the black soot particulate? It's is actually heavy and it falls back to the ground. It does not stay in the air. Just saying.

So when people get all tractor racist for super stocks, I just laugh at them, because there is nothing brand true on these things except the blocks, and all the blocks are pretty much the same from brand-to-brand; straight 6 or the occasional v8. If you really want to compare brands, watch mod turbo classes or farm stock classes.

@Saulatis - depends on if this is the first turn for the soil. But i go 4 inches down the first run and in 1st high (depending on th tractor)

you do think that the velocity of the exaust is passing the speed of sound on some of them trackters do you?
It's kind of hard to catch tractor pullers with their hoods open long enough out in the open to get pictures.
I always wonder how a normal field tractor would do in one of these events.
