Dave I'm sure you are going to snarl at my suggestion after the video you made long ago about not liking this particular knot. I'm just suggesting it for your consideration because it works, works for me and will work for you to cut down on gut hooking live bait fish. Slip-float > swivel > your favorite "Snelled" baithook leader. I don't know if you have a perch box or bait fish box but I do know you read the comments from your viewers and if you see a "test-worthy" suggestion you make a video testing it out. We don't have skipjack down where I'm at as far SE as you can get in Southeast Kansas. Down where your feet can be standing in Kansas casting your pole out and your bait lands on the Oklahoma side of the border fishing the Neosho river. My perch pole/ bait pole is always rigged; weighted slip float, 10in snelled leader. I can add them little clamp on lead weights if i need to cast a little farther or just to have my worm sink a little faster in a jig presentation or fish it no add on weight pull the float up to give my line 10ft of play if I wanted to slow-jig green sunfish (black perch) out of rock crevices. Anyhow it's versatile, dependable and I'd personally stand beside and vouch for a snelled bait fish set-up in any conversation or fishing story. Quick question. If you're making a video testing something and it involves fishing to test it and while testing it out fishing they both turn into catching, what kind of video is it then? Catching, fishing, testing? Or just a successful video?
Hey Dave, I’ve been having pretty good luck with #4 circle hooks for bluegill. Haven’t had nearly as many gut or gill hooks. Toss out under bobber and very slow retrieve. Usually hooks in the side of the mouth.
I haven't went cat fishing in about a month myself because the temp.here in Calif.where I am at has been up around 110 degrees to hot to go.Imight go this sat.its going to be a little cooler.Good luck Dave and thanks for the fishing video.
Glad to see you back Dave! Yep, motor issues can really suck. You get mayflies down there too? They suck up here. Between Lake Huron, and Lake Erie, they can be so thick, they'll smear on the road so bad, your car can slide like it's on ice. And there's no point in fishing except for pike as the other fish are so full of those bugs they won't hardly even bite.
My great uncle used to swear by thawing out his frozen bait in garlic brine. It definitely kills the freezer smell and fixes some of the texture weirdness too.

Dave i like your channel i have for years used big hooks and big bait had lots of success Iwanted to tell you a way that you can catch bluegill that will prevent them from swollowing the hook use a small 1/32 jighead with worm they will take it as well as a straight shank hook the jig head keeps them from swolling it I hope you will try this it really works well
Hey Dave, I handle the hook swallowers by using cheap EagleClaw Walmart snelled hooks. If they swallow, I clip the line right at the mouth and leave the hook in them. Then I just put another hook loop through the one I just cut and keep fishing. They usually live just fine with that hook in them for a while. Long enough to be bait anyway.
I have a spot where I catch bluegills from a dock with a bead head fly. Everyone else is using nightcrawlers and getting their bait torn off and I'm getting a bluegill every cast. I usually go on Friday mornings and catch enough cutbait for the whole week in a half hour
Got To Ask ,,, Dave why Didn't you just switch out the Motor ??? Then put a new lower on your old Motor for a Back up, or Sell to recover Some of your expense ? But I understand that All the Lifting involved to do That ,,, Happy to see your Back 🦈
My dad took my canoe and built a livewell into it. He takes his and mine and made a catamaran out of them because the water was so low in the river he fishes. He hasn't taken his regular boat out in a few years
Catfish Dave if you use a long shank hook and put a bend in the hook just above the business end of the hook the hook won't go deep in the bream your results will be a lot better just a 30 degree bend will do it
I don’t get the fish swallowing the hook theory you got. I’ve cut the line on bluegills that swallow the hook and through them in my live well hooked them later that day and their still alive three hours after nose hooking them. Braid helps with feeling the bite as well.
Save your back Dave and take your bilge pump that you have connected to your cooler aerator hose and just drop it into the lake and there ya go! Auto fill without having to bend and lean over the side of your boat with your lil bucket umpteen hundred times!!! Do the opposite and you can pump water out of your cooler by holding the aerator over the side of your boat and then flip flop back to the bilge pump in the lake and replace with fresh water!! I got same setup so I know what you are dealing with big pimp'n!

#6 Circle hooks Dave. With a decent sized slip float, they pretty much set themselves in the mouth if they are worth catching.

That boat motor gave Dave a whooping on his back probably. They are not light weight especially in the shipping container

Try using a jig head for bluegill instead of just a hook, it's a lot harder for them to swallow
Use the long shank hook but crimp the barb flat !!
