I love buildings; I've always been fascinated by them. I have always wished that I could have someone drive me all over NYC just to look at them, but I can't afford to even get to NYC, let alone hire anyone to drive me around as much as I'd want. These videos are the next best thing. Thank you so much for producing them.
I live in this neighborhood. Yes , it's nice. Good restaurants, grocery stores, easy commute. But the glamour as portrayed in this video? Believe me, when you are working a super stressful corporate job and giving more than half your take home pay to rent (forget about ever buying unless you're a billionaire) to be in a tiny, viewless, dark apartment with bedbugs, it's really not that glamorous.
So true. The American dream comes at a cost, and the price tag grows each day, yet in some ways the price tag is hidden until your BP and stress levels are sky high and a stroke looms over the horizon. Only then do some maybe realise it's too high a price to pay for a 'nice' address.
Fred Flintstone thank you for being honest, at least someone has their head outta the clouds and into reality. Status quo isn’t worth it, your not in the 80s anymore. Try and make where you live now better, get people who live in your neighborhood you think will want to better their environment and do something about it! Talk to your mayor about stricter litter laws. Instead of dreaming of a better place you can’t afford now, try to make where you live where you want to live. Be The Change!
FF; Thank you for your honesty! I would love to live in NY, but without a career, good job; impossible. That is why there is such a homelessness problem. Please reply to me. I cannot work, how would l survive in NY?
I had an apartment at Riverside & 97th overlooking the Hudson in 1975. 3 bedroom, Dinning Room 2 bath. I had 2 roommates. We each payed $100...YEP...$100...AHHHHHHH!!!!!
I've just moved away from the upper West side, my home for over 2 years and I am missing it terribly, this video is so nice to almost see it alive again
The same has happened to me, I was studying at Columbia, worked for a year after that and I had to move back to my country, India. I miss it terribly and only think about it. How do you manage to cope with this feeling?
in the mid 80s my dad owned a business up there. I spent 5 years of my life there. My dad passed away at a young age and I will forever have the best memories of 60 west 66th Street. Thanks for posting this.
My first visit was when i was 12 and my late uncle lived in the upper west side. My first visit to NYC as an adult i went to the cafe from Seinfeld. I looooovvvvveee New York
I went to prep school at 83rd and Broadway for a year and a half during 1980-81. Got mugged once, and the rents were dirt cheap, especially Amsterdam Avenue. Not like it is now that's for sure.
I can not tell you the exact dollar amount because its different from person to person. But let me give you 2 examples: Last year my friend from Seattle broke up with her boyfriend and landed in my apartment with a few pockets of tears, 2 suitcases and only $1950 in her bank. She was determined to leave the past behind and start a new life in New York. After 2 weeks of hustling she found a job in marketing, after 3 weeks she found a room with 3 other roommates in Brooklyn. She lives paycheck to paycheck but she enjoys life in New York City more than anyone I know. Second example: About 3 years ago my friend from Texas saved $10,000 and moved to New York. The spoiled brat didn't want to live with roommates so he found a small studio apartment in Chelsea for $2200. He made a few mistakes along the way that cost him a lot of money. Since he wasn't familiar with the city he used a real estate broker. This is what he paid on the first day when he signed the lease: First month rent: $2200 One month security deposit: $2200 Last month rent: $2200 Broker's fee: $2200 The total: $8800 Remember, he came with 10,000 and a few minutes later he left with only $1200 Conclusions: - Skip the broker, do the apartments search yourself - Live with roommates - Find a landlord that doesn't charge last month rent New York is not for the faint-hearted. I met many people who moved here and left after 2-3 months. My suggestion: Come here for one month, explore the city, meet new people, make new friends, and only then make the decision if NYC is the right place for you.
The Upper West Side is only affordable if you get a job as a live in maid or companion. Nannies get paid 1000 dollars a week for 2 kids and they can't afford to live there.
Hi, could anyone provide some information on Amsterdam Ave, NY. My aunt, emigrated from Ireland in 1920 and died in 1972. She spent many years living at the address, 1652?? Amsterdam Ave. Not sure of the ZIP code anymore! I visited NY about 10yrs ago, but I did not have enough information to locate the address. A very helpful person advised that all that area was demolished and is now part of Columbia University. Is there any historical site, that has archival film/photos of that era. What Catholic Church would have served the spiritual needs of that community. I would be so grateful if someone could point out where such info may exist, if at all. Sincere thanks for any assistance you may provide
@@kathiec1333 Hi Kathie C, thank you for taking the trouble to respond to my post, in the hope of learning a little more about my Aunt and her husband, who lived there, perhaps from the 40's to the mid 70's. Not true. I have a studio apt on W83rd for over 25yrs and that may have been true 30yrs ago but not today. Google NYC crime stats. The Upper westside is an extremely affluent community. I'm lucky to still be there, at least part time the rest of the time, in the Caribbean. NYC isn't what it used to be, it's basically unaffordable to 90% of working people in the U.S.A. If I had to sign a lease for my apt. today, I'd get a big REJECTION notice, inadequate income.
It's probably the least relaxing place in the city with Karens constantly harassing people. They had to reroute the entire bike path on the west side because UWS Karens were too "afraid" of the cyclists.
I got about $58 dollars saved up for a nice $19,000,000 condo penthouse in that neighborhood.
One day....one day!
SwankBanker good luck!
I hope you get it!

Why do people think music is necessary to show the sights and ambience of the city???

Neulei nonexistent
upper west side (up to 120th Street ) is safe but expensive.

All of Manhattan is expensive honestly

@0:32 is it a shop around the corner ??
Why isn't there that many people walking around? I thought ny is super packed?
55 million tourists visit NYC every year. Most dont come up to the UWS. Thats why it doesnt look as crowded.
Or he edited out excessive crowding, maybe filmed Sunday morning, I understand nyc is packed now, how embarrassing.
the area is a more residential/local neighborhood. The famous touristy NYC stuff is a few more blocks south and east.
Can u show flea markets second hand stores
Yes! Its on my to do list.
It use to be all PR.

With 20 million I'd rather buy a big Ranch in Texas.
How much would be the cost of buying a two-storey apartment in the WUS?
One small duplex would start at over $2m or $3400 a month.
How many million do you have?
15 million upwards.
To buy? 10 million.
The money that people pay for rent in America can give you a house in Jamaica nicely board are a nice two bed room gosh America is soo expensive smh
NYC is very expensive. Most of America is nowhere near that expensive.
Not wheelchair accessible, museums

A lot of bitter people in these comments. You don’t have to live here. Go elsewhere if you can’t afford it.
