So well said, it is a waste of time and loss of speed to push further then what compression allows. Such a different Technic then when the one to match was Chad to emulate. Also, there is the difference in equipment. 5x80 is very different to 3x125. Body types also will effect personal style - Chad has huge glute muscles compared ... Bart is skinny compared to Chad, and has huge quads relative to his body. This is partly why it is hard to emulate others - different strengths and weaknesses. I never had a very high power to weight ratio, so I could not skate always the way others would at the same speed. I think of myself as a higher tempo skater. One time, many moons ago, I was in a breakaway with another skater who had such a powerful slow cadence, and I tried to match it, and ended up getting more tired doing that. Cheers!
Thanks for the detailed analysis. Bart's technique looks very similar to yours, Pascal. I'm not an expert but it's like the two of you have added a pull into the push. The "pull" seems to be the phase between the point of landing and the center of gravity, if that makes any sense.

For terrible roads, daily commute and endurance training what speed Wheels would be best value for the wear? 110mm Wheels bont Elemental $8.50 atom Matrix $10. matter image $12. bont highrollers $14??? These are all the bang for the buck Wheels on the market right now that might have good wear for their dollar. anyone? Please thanks! The next value up is like 20 and $25 for G13 and things like that but I don't think they'll last twice as long as these ones here I don't know
Matter image are a classic... super juice might a good compromise. Of course g13 are more expensive but if mainly because of the amazing roll. The wear might be more or less the same... the main difference is the roll quality.
I mean that in general the feeling of pressure should be under the foot more than anywhere else. But during the double push there is also lot of load on the hip that help the forward force when pushing

Bart doing what was once commonly referred to as The Chad. Amazing how influential that guy was on the future of roller speed skating. Maybe you can find some old 1990’s videos and analyze Chad Hedrick for comparison to one of today’s top skaters!
I can barely seem to find an analysis videos of female skaters. Usually it's only -Bart,Felix, Joey, Pascal,elton...etc. I'm coaching some female skaters and there's a lot of struggle with the technique as I know is the correct one. But does the same technique apply to both female and male skaters? It's a bit of a research but might be worth finding the answer
@@karpmaster is the monitoring data showing the technique you are applying to your female skaters not as effective? Id imagine hip engagement has to start earlier than male skaters, just to support body weight.
Is it double push cause the leading skate ends doing a small extra push right before the next stride? Huge respect for these guys going at insane speeds without pads.
Double push is when you can manage to generate a push under the body weight before doing the classic putter push … chekc my tutorial about double push… I guess you will like it.
How do you ( speedline skaters ) manage to keep your foot straight in this special speedskating shoe? I gave it a try a few days ago and my foot was swinging left and right compared to normal inline skates. It felt dangerous and was not stable at all.
xVenrous hi... yes it take a bit of time to get use to it.... and it depend a lot of the shoes you use for it. It’s important to relearn a bit to skate specially doing lot of one leg slalom.
It seems easy to understand what to do with this explanation, but bringing it in to praktisch feels like an impossible task. I have seen so many double push instruction video's but I just can't manage to bring it in to reality. Especially the technique explaned on 3:32 is impossible for me to execute well. Really hard and also bit scary to try. Hopefully you guys could give an workshop when you are back in The Netherlands, would be so great!
Really helpful analysis but would be better if we could see longer sequences of Bart skating at normal playback speed without any editing or slow motion effects, like at 7:02, just the raw footage please...
Why don’t I ever see a jumping double push( leaving the ground) is it an old technique never used anymore? Once you get up to speed I find I go much faster with this technique probably because of the reduction of friction from the road... especially in rough roads
Hi Gabriel, doing jump style push feel powersfull( because it generate a huge compression at the push so this push is effective) but...doing so its a energy killer and it will make you tired super fast...also during all jumping moment you are actually loosing speed (from a biomechanical point of view if you are not pushing you are loosing speed for sure) and even if you dont have ground friction you still have air resistance which is an even bigger problem. Sorry its not a good technique then.
