This clip has raised some great dialogue and continues to show the power of how assumptions and judgments remain at the center of what divides people. The messages we receive, our experiences and our values shape our world view. One persons "living a lie" is someone elses-survival strategy. As we hope that people won't put us in a box based on our sexual attractions and desires, we must be cautious not to do the same to others...who in THEIR own time, not ours, must decide what is true for them
Luke coming out; Noah struggling with coming out; and Brian being gay on the down low have all been very good storylines exposing the nuances of individuals being gay and dealing with it.
Wow - what a stunning episode. I'm not yet sure whether I believe Brian, but he certainly came across as genuine. "Don't judge me" This is one of Luke's problems - he see's life ONLY from his own point of view. I don't believe for one minute he has any feelings for Brian and has been confused and repulsed by Brian's actions, however, if he can understand - through this conversation with Brian - that life is not always Black & White, it just may get him one step closer to understanding why
I so agree. And you can really feel the energy between him and Luke. He loves Lucinda, but when you see him with Luke, it's so obvious that he does not have that kind of attraction to her. He comes alive with Luke - he's captivated by him (aren't we all).
No matter if Brian is bisexual or not, he still came onto Luke. He still betrayed Lucinda, he wasn't faithful. And honestly, I feel for Brian. I think he's a good guy, who's so used to lying it's become his own person truth.
You're exactly right about Noah. They're just using him as a prop for Luke when they could be showing us his side of the story by giving him scenes of his own.
Agreed on all counts. Brian has over the weeks gone out of his way to avoid directly answering the question of if he is in love with Lucinda. Luke tried to get him to admit it, but he just deflected the question. Now, if we can just get a ten minute conversation about their relationship between Luke and Noah, things will be great...
Brian is right in saying that one word, a label, doesn't define a human being. Whether you are gay straight or bi, no matter who you are attracted to, there are other, more important factors to consider.
I Agree. While i get the whole young gay love story Nuke thing, its nice to see a more seasoned and experienced person deal with gay attraction. Luke can't possibly speak to EVERYONE's gay experience because quite frankly, he hasn't had much. Generational differences mean alot when you're trying to capture the experience of an entire group. Brian symbolizes a struggle that young gay people 25 and under can barely remember. NO supports, no chat rooms, no blogs, no GSA's. Luke isn't every gay man.
I absolutely agree. I begin to really like Brian and hope the storyline will continue like that. Brian really cares for Luke it's not only sexual attraction. That was such a great conversation between these two.
I agree with Brian that labels aren't always appropriate. As Alfred Kinsey said, everyone's sexuality is unique. And you can be romantically attracted to someone without being really sexually attracted, and vice versa. Anyway, I hope when Nuke get back together (which they have to) the writers do it right and repair some of the Noah hate that seems to have sprung up recently.
That's right...... something's coming. No doubt in my mind the chemistry between Luke and Brian will build, and they'll end up together (even if it's temporary). It'll be long-lived enough to wreak havoc on Lucinda, Luke's family and his relationships with everyone around him.... including Noah. Soaps can't leave well enough alone for too long. That's what keeps folks coming back, day after day. I'd like to see Brian and Luke get together.
I agree with the sentiment that perpetuating the "every older gay man wants a young hottie" is cliche and frankly untrue. But if you're being fair, young GAY couples exist because some of us older gay men have pushed the boundaries and taken the risks necessary for that to be possible. I have huge respect for young LGBT folks who find the strength to come out....just remember on whose shoulders you stand.
FINALLY!!!!!!!! finally we know the truth about brian after months of speculating....now onto the next luke storyline....GETTING BACK TOGETHER WITH NOAH!!!!!!!
LOL eldadevata. Luke Snyder, the one man coming out brigade! Its official, Noah has ben placed into the Oakdale teleportation device only to be beemed out so he can walk away from Luke angrily. o_0 Has my eyes deceived me? Brian walking around the house in something other than a suit? Nice. Great scene today overall. Thanks Andy. you always deliver for us.
Van and Laurence are good enough to carry a compelling scene...just the two of them. This was so well done. I think Brian genuinely believes he can't be gay (like Noah did in a way), even though he's attracted to (and cares about) Luke, and that he does love Lucinda. He's obviously gay - you could see it on his face, and hear it in his voice, during that almost-second-kiss. But he wants to be happy with Lucinda. I'm glad Luke agreed to keep the secret - it showed real maturity on his part.
Luke Luke Luke..... He was angry with Noah for not lying to the Dean about the results so it wouldn't come out and he suffered, so now he is keeping a secret to keep his grandmother happy and its going to completely backfire i just know it.........
Everybody hates these scenes for Luke not being with Noah but Man!Van is overwhelmingly good at these scenes which many actors handle so shallow and not convincing.Van ALWAYS acts like I just seeing him for the first time when he blew me away.
LOL The sentence above is actually the final part of my initial comment (one above that) - however people seem to have been misinterpretating it as negative sentence in it's own right (which it isn't) and giving it the thumbs down. Ahhh - the passion these two guys evoke in us - :-)
Am I the only one bothered when Luke says "Brian, it's bad that you're lying to yourself, but what's worse is that you're lying to my Grandmother."? When all is said and done, who is more hurt by Brian's denial of his sexual orientation - Lucinda or Brian himself? To me it's obvious. It's going to take a lot more time, energy, and tears for Brian to heal than it will for Lucinda.
While I would like MUCH MORE screen time for BOTH Luke AND Noah, I nonetheless APPRECIATE the Brian/Luke sub-plot. As a GAY man who posts personal ads on Craigslist, I intimately KNOW that a rediculously large number of "married closet cases" like Brian exist! Probably over 98% of my GAY personal ads are responded to by self-identified hetero-married men. No lie!
I'm in despair over the long range prospects for Luke and Noah. Has Procter and Gamble or CBS definitely ruled out the possibility of the two ever getting together in a meaningful way? Is Noah on the way out? Does anyone know? What are the rumors? Meanwhile, I salute Luke Van Fan for the incredible job he's been doing all this time. My thanks.
I was only actually creeped out by Brian when he told Luke that he was attracted to him. It was kinda awkward. Before that I didn't really think much about him, wasn't sure what to make of him but he's a really good guy, annoyingly so but still, he's nice and just needs a hug.
gosh, i love luke but every time i watch this i feel so bad for Brian bc luke is telling him who he thinks brian is. Not having sex with with someone doesnt mean you are not attracted to them. but i can't really place much blame on the show since is was a long time ago and times have changed. the grey area is much more spoken about today
Luke and Noah aren't having sex, but the show clearly portrays them as being attracted to each other. But with Lucinda and Brian it's different, because Brian keeps rebuffing Lucinda's requests for intimacy, saying she's not well enough yet, which may have been true on its own. But when you see Brian with Luke it is so obvious that he is much more strongly attracted to him. We also see him trying to avoid Luke, unable to resist looking at him when he's in the room. Brian is obviously attracted strongly to men and is not ready to deal with it.
I agree that brian does love lucina, in his way, and cares for her. But regardless, he kissed luke, on his wedding day!! It doesn't matter if he is gay, straight, or bi. He has tried to cheat on Lucinda twice now, and that's a no-no. He doesn't deserve Luke's respect or anyone else's.
I actually quite enjoyed this episode. Sure I miss Noah and the Nuke relationship but the whole Brian thing is quite interesting. Luke was great this episode, even though he was trying to force something out of Brian, he was patient and at times kind and he came off very mature here. If we get Nuke back they better have a good storyline!x
During his coming out story in 2006 it was mentioned that he was 16!! But off course he has never had a Birthday so we are just to assume this is his age! Although soaps always change the age of the charaters!
I just want luke to stop chasing noah, and make noah chase him. Luke and Brian look good together. Maybe this could be a love triangle. Finally an interesting storyline.
Luke probably knows, but something makes me think that the writers either don't know about bisexuals or are not willing to go into that area. I can sorta understand it - the black and white view of gay or straight and being accepted if you're gay is difficult enough to get across, adding shades of grey into the equation is just asking for more trouble. Not that I don't think it's possible to get across, just that I doubt a soap is willing to go there. Even primetime stays away from the subject.
Yes, Brian might be bisexual and I, for one, would relish the drama of Luke having an affair with Brian. That's what soaps are all about--endless, mind-blowing drama!!
Biphobia exists everywhere. It's getting very annoying. ATWT could have easily made Brian bisexual (and attracted to both Luke and Lucinda), but they chose not to, as they always do. TV shows completely IGNORE bisexuals, especially men... I would love to see ONE honest portrayal of a bisexual (male) on a soap opera! ATWT could have done something amazing here, but they didn't. They went with the easy - everyone is either gay or straight, no in between. BLECH!
This was interesting but I agree with Luke in this circumstance. Although the viewpoint of Brian was well put across, I maintain that one should be honest with oneself, whatever that truth may be. I do hope that the writers don't put them together, Luke is meant to be with Noah. End of.
Well, finally Luke and Brian had a serious heart-to-heart conversation, that's OK. They've been honest to each other, I think (hope), and that's OK too. But is it really so hard for the writers try to imagine a similar conversation between Luke and Noah? I think they do really NEED a heart-to-heart conversation like this one too, they do really NEED to be honest with each other about their feelings and their thoughts, whatever they are. So why haven't they? Does it make any sense??
I don't know if I can take a soap opera being written this well. If this whole luke goes off the deep end is his self riteous view of the world being shattered, like I think it is. And this episode really challenged luke to see the world in less black and white. In ways that people express their sexuality and live differently. God, if the writers are really self-aware. I forgot to say how wonderful Luke and Van is for the way he handled this obviously upsetting situation that he has carried for weeks and still being humble and understanding like many of us only can wish of to remain human and positive.
Brian: "Relationships aren't all about sex." Luke: "Trust me, I know all about that.." Translation: The writers want Luke and Noah to have sex as much as we do. lol damn network double standards.

"I'm attracted to you. Who wouldn't?
- "Geniunely straight men"
LOOOOOOOL that was amazing
Luke coming out; Noah struggling with coming out; and Brian being gay on the down low have all been very good storylines exposing the nuances of individuals being gay and dealing with it.
I agree.
Brian: "I admit I'm attracted to you, who wouldn't be?"
Luke: "Generally straight men."
LOL I love that part, it's so great.
Wow - what a stunning episode.
I'm not yet sure whether I believe Brian, but he certainly came across as genuine.
"Don't judge me"
This is one of Luke's problems - he see's life ONLY from his own point of view. finally they been clear to each other
Those silly writers kept Noah and Nuke off air for weeks and didn't care at all how many viewers they were turning off by that.
I'm glad they wrote this scene. I'm sure some of you might not agree with me, but there is a lot of truth in Brian's words here.
"Generally, straight men". Best line.
Hi
Well 👋 hi!
I love it here! I love it when it is over his forehead and not really sticking up.
I have fallen in love with Van..........
Confession: I've watched this five times now.
Oh great! Grandma is in a sexless relationship! Like grandson, like grandmother!
I wholeheartedly agree. The drama would be just irresistible!
Van looks strikingly beautiful in this scene. Something about the lighting.
Luke isn't every gay man.
luke is sooo sweet even to a guy that came on to him
I absolutely agree. I begin to really like Brian and hope the storyline will continue like that. Brian really cares for Luke it's not only sexual attraction. That was such a great conversation between these two.
Does Luke Only Define Things As Straight Or Gay? Cuz I Mean He Can Be Bisexual Like That's A Possibility Isn't It? He Doesn't Have To Be Just Gay
Yup...Luke is definetly not the only gay in the village:D
Well, I am glad they had this talk...
Luke/Van is TOO beautiful for words... :D
Luke seems to be enjoying this conversation with Brian and it is possible that somewhere in real life a boy goes through this the same way ...
Luke never takes that into consideration -_____-
That's right...... something's coming. Luke is sooo sweet after all that brian has done to him he still trys to help him!
FINALLY!!!!!!!!
finally we know the truth about brian after months of speculating....now onto the next luke storyline....GETTING BACK TOGETHER WITH NOAH!!!!!!!
Finally he admits it. Now Luke can tell Noah and Noah will actually believe him. And I really want Luke and Noah back together
I know, right? That was the fastest 180 I've ever seen. Yesterday he was all, "I just like to kiss my family!"
Brian: . . . Relationships aren't all about sex.
Luke: Trust me, I know all about that.
BWHAHAHAHAHA! Yes, Luke you do.
Oh yea!
He totally held on to that handshake a bit longer than necessary! lol
LOL eldadevata. Luke Snyder, the one man coming out brigade!
Its official, Noah has ben placed into the Oakdale teleportation device only to be beemed out so he can walk away from Luke angrily. o_0
Has my eyes deceived me? Brian walking around the house in something other than a suit? Nice.

Luke was right about a lot, but I disagree that Brian lying to Lucinda is worse than lying to himself. Lying to himself is far, FAR worse.
XPHvnv
"Relationships aren't all about sex."
"Oh trust me, I know that!"
I almost died laughing!!!! XD
This is my favorite "Van" here.
"I'm attracted to you. Who wouldn't be?" Here here!!
That sweater of Luke's is exactly like Freddy Krueger's... :s Boohoo!
LOL
The sentence above is actually the final part of my initial comment (one above that) - however people seem to have been misinterpretating it as negative sentence in it's own right (which it isn't) and giving it the thumbs down.

Luke & Noah's story - ATWT - Part 236
I LOVE WHEN LUKE SAID: "but it is not a choice...is who you really are" SOO TRUTH!
Great point, it would probably take under a 1/2 hour.
Is Noah on the way out? Does anyone know? What are the rumors? Meanwhile, I salute Luke Van Fan for the incredible job he's been doing all this time. My thanks.
I really wish they still had the old lilly. she had a much more natural feel for the character.
finally they have a good conversation
so sad how luke says " i already WENT through a relationship without one." impling that uts over.... NNNNOOOOOOOOO
I was only actually creeped out by Brian when he told Luke that he was attracted to him. It was kinda awkward. Before that I didn't really think much about him, wasn't sure what to make of him but he's a really good guy, annoyingly so but still, he's nice and just needs a hug.
lord jesus. it really is Luke and brians story
I think this is the most mature conversation Luke has had in a very long time. He needs to have a sit down conversation with Noah now.
Oh-oh Noah is so out of the picture!!
Exit Noah-come in Brian!!!
gosh, i love luke but every time i watch this i feel so bad for Brian bc luke is telling him who he thinks brian is. Not having sex with with someone doesnt mean you are not attracted to them. but i can't really place much blame on the show since is was a long time ago and times have changed. the grey area is much more spoken about today

Luke & Noah's story (Parts 201-400)
Noah has backed away from him.
I for one never gave up on Noah & Luke and I think it's about time they got back together. Brian in my eyes is just plain creepy!
Finally, I enjoyed a scene between Luke and Brian. Comfortable.
Thanks for uploading.
RAGYEJOWJM
If this was my Grandma, I would tell her that that her HUSBAND came onto me. i wouldn't have this carry out and be stupid about it.
I'm going to think that LUKE's in denial if he doesn't actually get out there and get laid.
Luke doesn't seem to grasp that people may be bi either. It's quite possible that both Brian and Noah are... maybe more so Noah.
I really really like those scenes.
Also, Van is pretty.
Brian seems like a good guy
We really need more Noah. Please let us see who he his. I miss Jake as Noah on ATWT. Van as Luke is great, but Jake needs more airtime.
Luke is wearing a STRIPED Freddy shirt. xD
No use, they'd probably jump on it again.
Brian, on the other hand, looks like he'd know what to do with a bed... ;)
Oh, something's coming all right!
*wink, wink*
lol
Luke needs to stop worrying about other people, and fix his own life.
Come on Luke get Noah back, if he loves you he will come backk!
Great episode, Luke and Brian acting together is good....and just love Van's tops!
This was interesting but I agree with Luke in this circumstance. Although the viewpoint of Brian was well put across, I maintain that one should be honest with oneself, whatever that truth may be. I do hope that the writers don't put them together, Luke is meant to be with Noah. End of.
FREDDY KRUEGER SUIT! hahaha
finally someone said it! thanks
I don't know.
If this is true I expect things to look better for luke for now on. The thing with his grandfather to be over...
I agree. I would much rather see Luke go out with Reg. Then, Noah would be really jealous and he could win Luke back. Luke may be trying to protect Lucinda, but obviously what's best is for her to know the truth. Lucinda will find out soon though because Homegirl is HOR-NAY (horny lol).
if Luke had black hair he could be Denis the menus :3
I forgot to say how wonderful Luke and Van is for the way he handled this obviously upsetting situation that he has carried for weeks and still being humble and understanding like many of us only can wish of to remain human and positive.
Brian: "Relationships aren't all about sex."
Luke: "Trust me, I know all about that.."
Translation: The writers want Luke and Noah to have sex as much as we do. lol damn network double standards.
Thank you mulholland22r. *blushes* :)
i have an essay to write but i cant stop watching until Luke and Noah get back together. someone help me.please...
I really like the sound of that!!! finally some real romance, jealousy and more importantantly Nuke drama :D
Yep! Luke's just turning 'em gay left and right! He's a great recruiter! LOL!
"who wouldn't be" KKKKK its truth
Luke bio dad, Damian Grimaldi, is from Malta, and that's where he is right now. If you want to know more go to markdutchviewer's channel, he's uploaded Luke's entire coming out story which Damian was a vital part of.
I want Brian to be bisexual :] everyone would be happy. And that was a good conversation. Gained respect for both of them
