Why shouldn’t he be able to run his radios. It’s his back yard. Horrible old women with nothing better to do than destroy other people’s lives. Horrible intolerant women.
Post her address and evrybody should write her. Like daily. What see did was terrible. Hams are an essential communication like, not o mention his past time and passion
The word "amateur" does not always do justice to the radio pioneers who are at the forefront in creating new means of telecommunication, providing voluntary emergency support etc.
Here in the US, Federal law protects amateur radio operators. This is really a sad story. Ham radio antennas are considered an "auxiliary structure" to your own property, the same as a swimming pool or tennis courts
Here in the United States and I'm pretty sure as well in the UK you need a license to operate and that license gives you the right to broadcast and they say that includes having an antenna that's federal law it supersedes any homeowners association or anything
No it does not supersedes HOA agreements. I know plenty of hams that live in places with HOA's and they are very strict about what kind of antenna you can put up at your own house.
Strange really how no one complains about all the 33,000v pylons strewn across the whole country (here in UK) which some are 10 time larger and higher than any ham mast, and all the telephone masts that hang cables like a spiders web. And now the new wind farms that are monstrosities that also runs close to communities to?????????
Nobody has the right to make somebody take down their radio antenna just because they don't like the look of it. Tough. He wasn't harming anyone, if he owns his home the council don't have the right to do anything. Even if he rents from the council they still don't have the right because he still claims all property rights because he pays rent. The council own nothing, houses are paid for by the public, just the same as the roads are.
People today are always in other peoples business. What ever happened to 'mind you business'. I remember that being in schools. He was not affecting you or your life. Terrible people being petty and rewarded for it.
If the mast had been there for more than four years, and judging from the collection of radios and how well set up it is, then legally its allowed. Afterward I would of put the mast on a trailer hit wagon and a tilt base and keep it on the drive way, so it was a 'portable' antenna :) One amateur radio operator in the UK has done this.
Yep. The licenced radio amateur near me was allowed his mast, as long as he lowered it when not in use. Nobody as far as I know really objected. But that was some years ago. Now SK .
If Martin decided to, he could extract some revenge on his intolerant neighbors by transmitting on attic antennas on frequencies which would totally disrupt TV, computers and radios of those who made him remove his mast, and there is nothing they could do about it. He is legal and they are screwed.
God, how awful for him. Just because it looked bad. Why do people try to impose their opinions on someone else. He did a very nice job of installing it and it was not an eye sore.....
Sad. Karens are everywhere. This lady thinks she really did something . I would be watching her like a hawk, and report everything she did wrong. This story was 7 years ago, wonder what ever happened.
As a youngster living in Rhodesia, ham radio operators with their big multi band yagis were held in high esteme. My career in radio communications stems from those hams.
After he removes the tower, he can still transmit using long wire dipole antennas configured in inverted V shape. He may have to erect them on poles at night and lower them during the day, or use his trees as masts. Additionally, he can rig antennas in his attic. 'Not the best antennas but he can stay on the air. They can't stop him from doing this.
dipole would be the best for the attic or an end fed balun to that tree! it works i have seen it working! doesn't excuse the old bats ganging up behaviour! poor old man!
Big difference in a 4 element rotatable yagi at 25 metres and a wire dipole. The reason I bought 20 acres and built my house away from gobshites like that twisted, dried up old ba$tard.
I moved my operations to a lightly populated area, then spread the rumor I was a Central Intelligence Agency listening post monitoring for terrorists. Nobody ever said a work to me or against me.
There are always longwire antennas that can be hidden in the trees. OFFCOM needs to protect Ham Radio Operators. I lived in an HOA in the states. It was not illegal to instal a flag pole in ones yard. A 3/4 inch copper pipe made for a good wideband element inside the fiberglass mast Fed through an antenna coupler and quite a few radials buried in the ground. No one even suspected while in the evenings I spent a lot of time "pulling weeds" to plant the radials.😊😊
A shame they won’t let him have his hobby, I doesn’t affect their tvs or cause cancer, nosey bunch just being cruel, leave him alone, some of them are gonny get cancer it’s a pensioners community
So, will their health symptoms magically disappear with the tower removed? What would happen if a stealth antenna were erected, one that no one could see, yet would most assuredly could cause potential problems with RFI to their TV sets, radio receivers, and possibly their telephones, yet they would have no clue as to what the cause is. The tower and antenna were removed. They had their "victory." A stealth antenna lower to ground is more likely to cause problems than one that is elevated. But, at least they are not an "eyesore," because no one can see it. They don't even know it's there. I'd say they deserve the annoyance, having embarked on an unwarranted vendetta against their neighbor.
This is why I don't like to live in a small community, little village; to many people having nothing else to do, put their noses where it doesn't belong! ...they're making your life a living hell.
If there is ever a real emergency situation you would be happy to have an amatuer operator near by it may be your only form of communication with the rest of the world. Something to think about
It’s a shame you didn’t get the RSGB involved because they are experts in the planning and when they were claiming that people would be getting radiation it’s strictly not true
I live in an urban environment in another country. Along with all the good sides like having all the services and communication nearby, one must put up with the simple fact that there are other people living around you. If one needs an "unobstructed" view to the (I suppose) mostly cloudy sky, then maybe move to the seashore.
I think the real culprit here is the little old woman trotting up and down the street making trouble. Personally, I think the sight of her is the real eyesore. Fact: she doesn't need the cane everyone knows , and another fact: she DOES need a lot of attention. May I suggest ... getting a hobby? Nosey trouble maker is not a hobby... try harder!!!!!
Sad to watch really. I fine elderly man just had is purpose for living stripped away... SHAME SHAME!! Amateur radio operators are a huge ASSET to any community!
This makes no sense he wasnt doing anything wrong, what time he has left and a bunch of old bitties want to ruin it for him, makes you wonder if their mad because he was a catch and didnt give them the time of day. Jelous? They should be ashamed along with the council.
leave the ham guy alone ,nice antenna set up , the old lady should be ashamed of herself. i had a na8bour like her but was a guy he didnt like wood heaters he even called the plumbing board but mine was installed correctly by a registered installer. . .
they are just jealous they haven't accomplished anything with their life. also even though you cant se their back yard except in these photos. .what a dump they live in.
So you have this elderly man who calls out over his radio seeking contacts in a hobby he loves and is a major form of social contact for him and a bunch of Karen's use their social networks to shut him down and take this from him. Am i understanding this video correctly?
Trying to look at this from both sides (I am a ham radio user). I would have thought for a mast that big he would need planning permission, did he get it? It is large and ugly and you would need very understanding neibours. Is this hobby over, NO. Like many of us there are many different types of antenna that do not intrude. I do undertand his frustration and sadness but he can continue his hobby
he probably did get it! but those old bats have friends that go running to the council! and they took sides behind his back!! wonder if they'd complain at the clouds blocking the sunshine??
It’s unsightly and others benefit not at all. He knew what he was going to do. If he had a hobby of breeding elephants, should we indulge him? It’s not a satellite dish, those are bad enough. He could have planned. Find someone to give him a ten year lease. Build higher and better, better proximity and be above board, why annoy people who get no benefit. If it were solar and the community got free energy, it’d be different. You have world access…use it. Oh…and somebody tell him….internet. No dials, no oil derricks.
Terrible bitter old ladies with nothing better to do with their sad, dull lives.
Why shouldn’t he be able to run his radios. It’s his back yard. Horrible old women with nothing better to do than destroy other people’s lives. Horrible intolerant women.

They are called "KARENS"
Ham radio operators are fantastic to have around in emergency situations. What were these people thinking, blocking the light?! What the hell?
The word "amateur" does not always do justice to the radio pioneers who are at the forefront in creating new means of telecommunication, providing voluntary emergency support etc.
I'm an American ham myself, and I appreciate your kind comments.
What a bunch of busy bodies! Why don't those ladies just not look at the mast and ignore it?
Poor old man, leave him alone with his hobby.
Well said
Poor man, the council should be ashamed.
thats councils for you too many old bats complaining and the councils taking their side!
Poor man just wants to enjoy the hobby...shame on that horid women and the council...god will judge them
Hes being way nicer than i would be.
Oh For Gods sake..let him have his Ariel...
What a dilema! They should leave him alone. It is not obstructive.
Here in the US, Federal law protects amateur radio operators. This is really a sad story.
Ham radio antennas are considered an "auxiliary structure" to your own property, the same as a swimming pool or tennis courts
ALL the ham operators should send her a letter letting her know what n asset hams are. All 770,000 of them
Not true. Most homes in the USA are in an HOA and no federal law goes against a paper a home owner signs agreeing to HOA terms
@@624radicalham Only about 15% of Americans live in an HOA and rules, like OTARD apply.

He is doing no harm to anyone just enjoying his radios for the little bit of time he has left you can't choose who you live beside ❤
When you are all alone, it's a great hobby,
All you really need is a longwire tuned up to the bands you want to transmit on dont let the neighbours win
Hanna Byson yep end fed wire doglegged a few times around the garden.
Neighbours with very little to do except finding something to occupy their empty brain space.

I guess they mean 10 meters high because the antenna itself is a 40 meter band antenna.
I would at least petition the Council for all involved to pay this man the money back for his investment. Even at 75, Pay back can be a bitch.

cancer from ham radio 🤣more likely to get cancer from a ham sandwich with all shit they put in processed meat
Just another "Karen" at work.

People cannot just do as they please. He did NOT get permission for the mast in the first instance, so what did he expect??

It doesn't work that way. And there's not enough room here to explain to you why, because if you knew anything at all, you wouldn't have said this.
@@dps1943 well said Dennis!
