I find this really inspiring. I know this is a long shot, but do you see working with someone to makes this an Android app at some point? Alternatively, are there any non tape hardware loopers that you recommend?
Bought the app last night. It's really nice. Here are a couple recommendations to make it even better: 1) Adjustable feedback amount. Loopers are essentially delays with 100% feedback. If you can make the loops have adjustable feedback, you can fade the sounds out over time as you continue to add new sounds, which helps the loop evolve. You can also use the feedback to create swells and other amplitude modifications to the loop as it's playing. 2) A "replace" feature. Valhalla Delay implements this as adjustable ducking. Whenever you hit the record button, it ducks the exiting loop to some amount, which allows you to modify the loop and helps it evolve. You can get really glitchy loops like this. 3) Option to make the Record button a momentary switch instead of latching. Right now, you hit Record and it stays on 'til you turn it off. A momentary switch would only record while you're holding the sound down. This makes it possible to toggle Record on and off very quickly to make very short clicks of recorded sound. 4) An external insert and return within the feedback path. Augustus Loop does this. It allows you to put any other effects you want within the feedback path to modify the loop as it's going. It opens up a whole world of possibilities for mangling loops and keeping them evolving. I don't know if this is actually possible in iOS AUv3 plugins, but if it is, it'd be killer. I've used lots of different hardware and software loopers and long delays. They all have some combination of the coolest features, but none of them has all the cool features. Gauss could be the first.
Man you are the most ambient dude in the world. I just melt away into my inner soul when I hear you music. @@Hainbach thanks. Maybe you are or you aren't aware of a big scene devoted to "livelooping" (see www.livelooping.org or the loopers delight group on Facebook). Livelooping festivals have taken place since 20 years (starting in California but also in many other places including Berlin). The livelooping folks focus on playing and looping live instead of using prefabricated loops. Many are especially inspired by Terry Riley's Time Lag Accumulator ("Rainbow in Curved Air") or Eno/Fripp's Frippertronics (which used the same technique based on 2 tape recorders) where you create continuously changing soundscapes - old layers slowly fading away while new ones are overlaid on top. This creates music with a very special and hypnotic feel that can be much more alive and interesting than music based on static closed loops. I posted your video in the loopers delight group and the first reactions were "can it do fadeout? no? then it isn't interesting". I think it wouldn't require much effort to include a fadeout knob, and it would add a whole dimension of musical possibilities
@@Hainbach I hope you can do that. A feedback/fadeout control in a looper is one of those constructs that's incredibly simple (just a summing node at the input) but remarkably powerful in use. When it stands in AUM it’s quite small and I wish to use it more playfully. Thanks for Gauss creation and Thanks for inspiration that you gave us in your videos!
Sorry if these are dumb questions but I can’t find this info anywhere: is there a way to line or file import samples? People online seem to complain about not being able to make this work. Secondly is the only export option through headphone out?
See I usually loop with a Gemini DS 1224 it's super simple you press, you Loop, 1 shot at a time. You can change speed but that's about it. I've literally been looking for this exact thing. If I could find it in Hardware even better. But this is perfect I'm actually excited.
Hi, is it possible to FREEZE the sound? as in bringing the play head to a halt & as its paused it just plays that specific part. I wish for a sampler that can do it like waves cr8 sampler it has a freeze button & with a bit of LFO modulating the play head is Amazing!! Hope to see this feature in Auv3, some units do it but it's not freeze
Bravo and thanks for such an elegant and great sounding app! I’m lucky to have a few different loopers, especially FieldScaper and Morphagene; but the streamlined interface of Gauss and the ability to layer multiple instances really set it apart, looking forward to many hours exploring sounds with this.
Absolutely fantastic app, thank you Hainbach! I was sold within a minute of starting to watch the video and so psyched to see it was only 6.99. I feel really fortunate to have such a creative tool for such an affordable price. Also pleasantly surprised to find out that the developer made HAMMERHEAD, I think the very first drum machine software I ever used back in... yeesh... 2000? Tiny feature suggestions for the next revision: 1) when the delay is set to "sync", display the musical subdivision it's set to 2) Add an "init" button to clear all the settings out in one click? Larger ideas: 1) Ableton Link (if you're gonna sync, you might as well Link? :D) 2) Background audio / interapp audio somehow? Even without any of these, great app, thank you so much for being part of designing it!
It should show in the list as an Audio Unit Extension in AUM, right? I'm not finding it anywhere, even after restarting and whatnot. Maybe a bug? It runs fine for me standalone.
Thank you Hainbach and Bram Bos! Wonderful app - just getting familiar with it now! What is the dongle / microphone / interface setup you’re using with this?
USB complient it has to be. I use RME Babyface Pro plus Camera connection kit, can't talk about reliability of anything else. For external interfaces use AUM now, next update is planned to enable external support in standalone, too.
Hi, I just purchased this app but for some reason it won’t work in AUM or Audiobus. It opens and works as it should as a stand-alone but in AUM in the effects chain, I get no sound from it. I’m trying to suss out if I need to adjust some settings somewhere but can’t figure it out yet. Can you advise me please?
@@Hainbach ha sorry - I think I should have watched the full video before asking that! I was just getting excited at the possibilities for my own workflow :)
I've been experimenting with this app today. The Stape speed options and modulation remind me of the morphagene in some ways. This app reminds me of the android app "grainstorm" a good bit too. This is a VERY interesting little app. I would love to record without noise though. I have one of the newer iPhones with the very limited lighting port that only allows a single connection so I'm recording with the headset mic. Not optimal but the noise will probably sound cool when I dump it to the morphagene.

Is it possible to make a time strip more precise? As it’s made in looper pro?
When it stands in AUM it’s quite small and I wish to use it more playfully.
Thanks for Gauss creation and
Thanks for inspiration that you gave us in your videos!
Sorry if these are dumb questions but I can’t find this info anywhere: is there a way to line or file import samples? People online seem to complain about not being able to make this work. Secondly is the only export option through headphone out?
New update will allow import soon. You can capture a session within the app.
@@Hainbach Danke! Purchased it:)
What you need is Fluss - granular playground
@@Hainbach Thanks for your reply!
Bravo and thanks for such an elegant and great sounding app! I’m lucky to have a few different loopers, especially FieldScaper and Morphagene; but the streamlined interface of Gauss and the ability to layer multiple instances really set it apart, looking forward to many hours exploring sounds with this.
What a comfortable relaxation music... I'd like to listen these sound all the night !
I have to sit down and mix and master all the tracks I recorded - might do another EP for bandcamp.
Very cool tool. Great collaboration. I like the envelope on the sequencer steps. Going to get a lot out of this. Thank you!
man you are killin it right now, so glad you decided to develop software, love it
Absolutely fantastic app, thank you Hainbach! I was sold within a minute of starting to watch the video and so psyched to see it was only 6.99. I feel really fortunate to have such a creative tool for such an affordable price. Also pleasantly surprised to find out that the developer made HAMMERHEAD, I think the very first drum machine software I ever used back in... yeesh... 2000?
Tiny feature suggestions for the next revision:
1) when the delay is set to "sync", display the musical subdivision it's set to
2) Add an "init" button to clear all the settings out in one click?
Larger ideas:
1) Ableton Link (if you're gonna sync, you might as well Link? :D)
2) Background audio / interapp audio somehow?
Even without any of these, great app, thank you so much for being part of designing it!
1) is noted 2) maybe, but easiest to add a default empty preset. Its getting full on the UI now 3) use AUM 4) use AUM :-)
@@Hainbach better ideas than mine all around. I was wondering what the bottom half of your iOS screen had going on. Thank you!
Tolle App! Aber bei dir läuft ne App im Hintergrund, richtig ? Man sieht Eingänge die im Gauss so nicht erscheinen...?
AUM, brauchst du. Ist unglaublich toll.
Fantastic tutorial, I use AUM with modular all the time. And fantastic app, thank you
Beautiful sounds made here, I came just to find where the files were saved and stayed for the whole video. Another great video and app!
this is great! please if you can....port the WIRES auv plugin for IOS!
It should show in the list as an Audio Unit Extension in AUM, right? I'm not finding it anywhere, even after restarting and whatnot. Maybe a bug? It runs fine for me standalone.
Look in the list of AU effects (rather than the instruments). You’ll find it there!
Hi congrats for the great video
what's the iPad connector (USB C) that you use on demo with AUM?
Camera Connection Kit
Thank you Hainbach and Bram Bos! Wonderful app - just getting familiar with it now! What is the dongle / microphone / interface setup you’re using with this?
Camera connection kit plus babyface pro
Which kind of audio interface I could use with an iPad or iPhone to sample an amplified e-guitar?
USB complient it has to be. I use RME Babyface Pro plus Camera connection kit, can't talk about reliability of anything else. For external interfaces use AUM now, next update is planned to enable external support in standalone, too.
@@Hainbach thanks! I will try!
How many simultaneosu loops can be played? Looks very interesting.
Is it possible to make this into a VST with the ability to add any effects and automation to each loop?
Not happening, iOS only
14:17 This Hain can really Bach.
haunting and beautiful
Just to clarify - you can still sync to the clock if you’d like to though right?
Sync reset and sequencer.
I use an RME Babyface Pro with it if I want high quality
Do you have any ideas for a more budget way?
@@Hainbach Thanks but that won't solve my issue. It looks like I'm going to have to buy an $80 adapter to use my iPhone with any of my other gear. They could have been like everyone else on the plant and went with a 1/8 cable but decided the users should suffer in order to use their equipment. If anyone knows any cheaper solution that this please let me know.

Where do captured sessions go? Can’t find.
Try closing and restarting the app, sometimes iOS needs a nudge to make the folders.
@@Hainbach thank you! worked
You had me at bram bos...hammerhead taught me so much.
Here I was about to buy a Tascam but this came through instead. This is so nice. Can’t wait to use it!
Made me smile for ages...thank you for this wonderful app!
Great! What’s the app you’re using to layer the app with?
AUM
@@Hainbach Thank you
Is this available as a VST/Audio unit so I can use it in my DAW?
Only iOS
@@Hainbach Ok cool. Love your work btw! Greetings from Wales.
What a gift this is to the experimental music community! 6.99 US? It's a steal! (Of course I guess I have to stop ebaying old tape decks now...)
Genuine app, thank you so much Hainbach!
The closure song strongly reminds me of Hauschka :)
Downloaded, and reading the manual. This is the looping app I've been looking for!
How is this app different or similar to Loopy HD? I'm waiting for the new Loopy Pro but it's taking ages. Perhaps this app is a good alternative. Does it record in 24 bit and what are the sample rates?
A truly wonderful thing it is too! Thanks to yourself & Bram for this, I’ve been having an awful lot of fun with it, peace ✌️
Can you use this is in Logic Pro X as an AU? Thanks so much
No, iOS only
@@Hainbach thanks HAINBACH ✌
Wirklich coole App. Vielleicht hole ich doch die iOS Möhre mal wieder aus dem Schrank.
Ha, Möhre :-)
Nice Mr Hainbach I like this but I also would really love to have WIRES on the IPAD too....you can do it.
Any possibility of an android version in the future?
Will there be an android version also? Big thanks!
"android will never happend" is the answer :°(
Does this mimic mechanical motor drift?
What is the name of the other app you keep referencing? Is it Ohm?
AUM
Bram Bos... Bram Bos... that sounds familiar for some reason. Hammerhead! I loved Hammerhead so much. My first "real" "drum machine". Just bought Gauss, btw. ;)
Always wanted an app like this
This is brilliant guys, what an absolute winner. Great work! 👊🏼
Thank you buddy!
Your just saying that because your app Agonizer is in here! 😂 Jk Jakob, Jk! 😉
All jokes aside though, this is awesome and will definitely use Agonizer with it. 👍🏾
Is it possible to save the loop (and all the settings) in auv3 mode? Or just in stand alone?
You can save in aum, it works well, just won’t show up in standalone because walled garden apple.
all of a sudden an ipad is on top of my list. this looks and sounds amazing.
Can you tell me what other apps you were using alongside this in the demo?
Ruismaker, SKIIID , Agonizer, eos
Wow this is so cool, a bit mind blowing for me already 😂 I will save and return when I become good in music production.
This is going to take my piano to another world thank you
Oh man, this is amazing Hainbach. An app made by musicians for musicians and you can tell. I'd be all over this if there was an android version, until then I'm stealing the girlfriends iPad :)
Android will never happen, Bram values his life, so you better bandcamp Friday those beats to buy your woman a nice new iPad :-)
Nice!!! Will u mak an app for MacOs?
this is a truly beautiful app, thank you hainbach and bram bos!
