    Of course you can find great food in Paris (and other places), but don't forget that, like all overly touristic places worldwide, Paris is a scammers' paradise, and that unfortunately includes some restaurants that don't hesitate to cheat and serve bland pre-prepared industrial food as French traditional cuisine. Before eating out in Paris, I suggest you check comments and recommendations on line, and generally avoid "eateries" close to the main touristic spots.

    Loved a lot of your recommendations but I'm sorry after checking out Bouillon Pigalle I do not understand the hype. The prices are unreal (cheap) but they seem about right for the level of food. travelers should spend their precious time elsewhere. This spot is not worth the wait. I would compare it to very cheap diner food in the states. It might hit the spot if you're already drunk but you'll probably regret it in the morning.

    As someone who has lived in Paris, I’m not sure why you’d recommend any of those places to eat- apart from where you got pastries, which are genuinely considered to be excellent, but are oftentimes overrun by tourists, those restaurants are all tourist traps now. I see you were in Pigalle, which is where I used to live, but you didn’t go to any of the great restaurants/bars/cafes.

    • @locavore_eats
      @locavore_eats  2 місяці тому

      Appreciate your input! Do you have any local suggestions? We'd love to keep them in mind if we're ever in Paris again!

    • @LeMagnifiqueDoubleAgent-cj4zo
      @LeMagnifiqueDoubleAgent-cj4zo 2 місяці тому +1

      @@locavore_eats, I have many suggestions of course. For example, since you seemed to like Pigalle, if you’re staying in that neighborhood, you have to go to my favourite bistro, Le Bon Georges. There are a few other bistros that are worth checking out depending on what part of the city you want. Also, there are many fine dining restaurants of course, but a good trick is to go at lunch when they are generally cheaper- I have a list of about 15 one-star restaurants where you can have a three or four course lunch for €40 or less (not including aperitif or wine of course) for example. Just write the next time you are going to be back.

      @@LeMagnifiqueDoubleAgent-cj4zo going with my wife to paris for our 10 year wedding anniversary. would love to get your recommendations. nothing I hate more than wasting good money on bad or mediocre food.

    • @LeMagnifiqueDoubleAgent-cj4zo
      @LeMagnifiqueDoubleAgent-cj4zo Місяць тому +1

      @@michaelnesch6010, Sure, I would say there are two key things to know about maximizing your food budget as I alluded to in my previous comment- one is to find good bistros, which are not necessarily cheap, but cheaper than many restaurants and provide a generally authentic experience as well as to do any fine dining at lunch unless you want to explicitly go for dinner. Here are a few of my favourites in each of those categories:
      Bistros
      1. Le Bon Georges
      2. Les Arlots
      3. Café des Ministères
      4. Bistrot Paul Bert
      Also, Bistro Flaubert, which is more of a restaurant was excellent the last time I ate there. The chef recently opened a new place for the same restaurant group and when I ate there in Feb he said it’s still good. There is also Bouillon Le Petite Pharamond, which isn’t so much a bouillon in my opinion. The food isn’t as good as the four bistros that I recommended, but it’s solid and the atmosphere is beautiful.
      Michelin Starred Restaurants with Deals
      1. Virtus
      2. Auguste
      3. Contraste
      4. Substance
      5. Accents Table Bourse
      6. Granite
      These are six good lunch options, as they offer three or four course tasting menus at lunch (at least as of the last time I visited, which is in some cases a year ago) for €40-50 per person (not including aperitif or wine of course). Just double check that these offers are still valid before you go there so you don’t get any surprises because some of them can be moderately expensive otherwise.
      Fancy, but Shouldn’t Break the Bank
      1. ASPIC- more in line with the normal cost of the previous six, but I think they’re only open for dinner so don’t have a lunch deal
      2. Frenchie- more casual, but the original has a star, they have another location in Pigalle connected to the hotel Le Grande Pigalle, which is a nice and decently priced place to stay if you’re looking for a hotel, and a wine bar across the street from the original
      3. Septime- casual restaurant with serious food where you could go for a lower priced lunch and all out for dinner; Septime La Cave is their renowned wine bar
      4. Hémicycle- more elegant than the other three; opened by the former chef of Le Bistrot Flaubert a few months ago; it will be awarded a star when the new guide for Paris comes out
      Go All Out
      1. Le Clarence- they have lunch service so you could do it a bit cheaper that way, but still not cheap; the space is beautiful
      2. L’Oiseau Blanc- great food and great view of the Eiffel Tower; rooftop bar is also nice, but go early because it’s first come first serve unless you’re staying at The Peninsula
      3. Le Jules Verne- inside the Eiffel Tower; awarded their second star in the last Michelin Guide
      4. L’Epicure- another fine dinning experience in a stunning space
      5. Le Meurice- famed Chef Alaine Ducasse’s flagship in a stunning space in The Dorchester
      6. Plénitude- probably the best restaurant in Paris right now in the ultra sleek Hôtel Cheval Blanc; shot straight to three stars (I think the only the second restaurant to ever do that) in their first evaluation
      7. La Tour d’Argent- not as upscale or refined food as the other six, but solid and you get a view of the recently renovated Notre Dame Cathedral; they have one of the most important and largest wine cellars in Europe, which you can tour even if you don’t dine with them for a fee
      I’m not sure when you’ll be in Paris, but you’ll need to make reservations for all these places (except for Le Pharamond) at least three to four weeks in advance and even longer if you’ll be there in high season. If I get a chance, I’ll send you some recommendations for bars too. Enjoy
