Acclaimed Britsh composer Max Richter has written a new landmark recording: SLEEP is 8 hours long - the equivalent of a night’s rest - and is actually and genuinely intended to send the listener to sleep. "It’s an eight-hour lullaby," says its composer, Max Richter.
The ground-breaking new work is scored for piano, strings, electronics and vocals - but no words. "It’s my personal lullaby for a frenetic world," he says. "A manifesto for a slower pace of existence."

The woman's voice is so beautiful, sounds like an angel is humming.
Crystal Clouds true ! Sometimes when it’s very quiet somewhere - I can hear her voice . It’s haunting ....
She the devil
My 87 year old mother passed away a few weeks ago in my arms with this music in the background. A blessing
I’m so sorry for your loss. I hope you’re doing a bit better now 🙏🏻❤️
sorry for your loss may your memories of her bring you peace
I see this as neither painful nor sad. It is mystical and full of spiritual depth.
I couldn't agree more
This. It is mystically comforting indeed.

The angel of time humming the melody of eternity and making us realize that we are all stardust on our journey through an almost empty universe. What a beautiful amazing piece of music.
Or that there might be something more than just despair and an almost empty universe
I have really bad anxiety-induced insomnia, so falling and staying asleep is very hard for me some nights. Like, I take 20 mg of melatonin and I’m still wide awake for hours. It is horrible. This song is one of the only ones that can actually make me sleep- it’s almost hypnotic. It’s truly baffling. This song is a blessing and a masterpiece.
Omg same here!!
I've suffered from a similar sort of thing all my life, though my insomnia isn't exclusively linked to anxiety. If you want a "tip"; taking high amounts of Melatonin actually has adverse affects over time. You sort of build a "resistance" to the hormone and it makes it even harder to fall asleep. Try taking a break from melatonin for a month, or only take it every couple days. No, you might not fall asleep on the days/weeks you don't take it, but it will prevent you from building that tolerance. That or you will keep needing to take more and more melatonin and make the problem worse (that is what happened to me,, it sucked). I have found that you can supplement melatonin with other relaxation hormone pills as well to achieve similar results. Not to mention practicing other sleep therapies and calming exercises.
TLDR; Too much of a good thing is a bad thing, so make sure you take time off of melatonin. Don't take my word as textbook though, I only speak from my (unfortunately plentiful) experiences.
I hope you sleep well tonight :)
@@clydesdale1775 yeah, melatonin also caused my progesterone to go so low that I basically didn’t have any- I’ve stopped taking it now and don’t think I’ll ever be able to again, haha. Now I just have to rely on guided meditation, and it actually works a bit better for me! Thank you so much for the advice! :)
@@celeste1879 It's good to hear you're recovering! Have a good night :)
@@clydesdale1775 thank you! And you too! :)
It has been more than 2 years since the first time I listened to this. I don’t know what happened but something changed in me after that. This piece feels like a compassionate sanctuary in a background danger with haunting sense of wonder. It makes me feel connected to everything that existed and would exist. It’s simply a masterpiece.
This was an edit. I agree with you
I woke in the middle of night to this song playing on a sleep playlist. And realized it’s the type of the song that plays while you’re asleep. You don’t need to know that it exist.
Discreet Music by Brian Eno may have been recorded for just the same reason. The first 30 minutes of that album is one 4 note phrase, two or three 2 note phrases, and four or five 1 note phrases on a constant loop pattern interwoven between each other.
Featuring the gorgeous vocals of renowned British soprano Grace Davidson (too bad that was not mentioned above. )
+K ??????
thenightflymusicblog do you know anything similar to this ?
What do they call this type of music even ?

“You want to know don’t you? Why they keep coming here. To earth.”
This song has made me a Max Richter fan. I just discovered this five minutes ago.
Have you ever listened to "college radio"? WXPN (88.5 University Of Pennsylvania) has a program called Stars End with Chuck Van Zyl. WPRB (103.3 Princeton University) has a program called Music With Space with Mike Hunter.
Those 2 programs play this song every once in a while. There may be other "college radio" stations around that play music that most commercial stations would never touch. Check some of the colleges in the part of the world that you live in.
Me too Ivan R, except three years after you commented.

The first time I heard this song was within a movie in a dream of mine. One of the characters was narrating about the fates of others as the movie drew to a close, and even though I don't remember what he said, the background music made it incredibly bittersweet. Then I woke up to hear the music still playing. The second listen I was expecting to hear that narration again, but it turns out it was just my imagination adding another layer to it in an effective manner. I can only hope I witness something like that again.
I think some Alan Watts narration would fit this quite well. Though I wish you could remember what was said. I never remember words, but I remember songs. Several of which I've reclaimed and made in this life on my guitar.

such a delicate piece of music... max is the absolute best at this kind of thing, musical intimacy at it's finest. words aren't enough.
Слушая музыку, становится так тоскливо и печально, от неизбежности жизни и ее проблем. Наверное это единственная музыка, которая олицетворяет всю сущность мира
in 2018 I was on plane playing with air plane media tracks on boared and found this track hidden for me to cleanse something in my soul for so many years, thank you Max, this is not just music it is something deeper beyond words.
Я представляю такую картину: Ночь,ярко светит луна,вокруг туман,озеро,на камне сидит русалка и поёт эту песню

That makes me think about a woman and her daughter during World War 1. She sees the postman at the window. He looks sad. He bring a black letter, with a medal Inside. He didn't even knocked at the door, but the woman knows. She begins to cry, like she never cried before. She is between the denial period, and the interrogative one. She doesn't want to trust her eyes. She is remembering every good moment with her husband. But the postman knocks. She falls on the ground, devasted. The daughter comes. She asks to her mother: What is this letter, brought by the postman ? The mother doesn't answer. The girl understands. She is young, but she understands. She takes her mother in her arms, and begins to weep too. Both understood. He died.

Diyorum hepimizin bir gizli adı olsa gerek
Belki çocuk ve ihtiyar, belki kadın ve erkek
Hepimiz, her birimiz gizli bir isimle adaşız
Yoksa şimdiye kadar hesapların tutması lazımdı
Hayatımıza kendi adımızla başlardık
Bilmediğimiz bu isim, hesaptaki bu açık
Belki düğümü çözer, aşkımı başlatırım.
Aşk, yazılmamış olsa bile adımın üzerine
Adımı, aşkın üzerine kendim yazarım.
When ı listen this, ı remember Zain and Yonas of Capernaum. I don't know why. Just this song is touching my heart so much. And Capernaum touched my heart too. I LOVE Max Richter. Because he is touching my heart without lyrics. There is no need word to tell feelings. We can see that. Just the music. Music tells our everything our life. I am nice to meet max richter. Thanks for you explain my feelings.

sounds Schindler's Listy. I like it. It's very nice.
Absolutely not.
+WitchMeruru i'm talking about the tune not the tone. there is in fact a piece in the S List soundtrack that sounds quite similar to this. the notes i mean. Richter's work is in fact quite derivative for what it's worth.
