I agree with both of them and depends on personal preference.
If you’re willing to let some things slide and let the bar for “transformative” content low, then you’re a dream. If you are a businessman and want to strike a deal with the compilation channel, you’re a schlatt. If you’re young and new to content, timothy is you.
It depends on how big you are (i'm not sure about that). If those type of channel causes impact revenue, i think you should do deal's or claim it. Especially, if you are a steamer.

I know what Schlatt is like on theweeklyslap, but hearing him, Dream, and Tommy speaking seriously to each other was honestly quite intersting.
dream is surprisingly such a level-headed gracious guy for holding that kind of mentality especially in his position.
i honestly hope he never loses that humility.
i also admire schlatt's assertiveness with his content, i feel like he's a lot more comfortable (relative to dream) sharing his business decisions publicly because he took the time to incorporate that mentality into his comedic bits and persona (ie. schlattcoin, shark businessman character), thus making his audience comfortable with the fact that he's business-minded.
it's pretty genius when you think about it, lol. making his comedy on-brand with his actual blunt personality.
He also has a second channel called the weekly slap where he helps people out that have life problems

see the thing is, and I’m commenting this before finishing the whole vod, dream’s videos are actually recorded off camera, while tommy’s are mostly streamed and just clips cut together. so people posting dream highlights is completely fine since dream isn’t gonna post any of that content himself. now tommy on the other hand, _is_ going to be posting stream highlights himself, so it’d make more sense for him to claim highlight channels because they are taking potential views away from tommy
exactly and especially since Tommy will maybe combine a couple streams together for a video so it takes a bit to edit give these channels more time to make compliations out of them which takes away from Tommys actual video

I honestly don't get why people are so surprised about this. In Germany a lot of streamers have an editor, that makes compilations out of the highlights of streams. They share the money and leave the scraps for the unrelated compilations channels. If I were a streamer, I'd also do it that way.

I think for Dream it’s also the fact that most of his compilations are with George and Sapnap so i guess the idea of making a contract would be hard
it isn't really tbh, I assume he split a part of his revenue to George, sapnap and bbh, he could do the same with the contract
I feel like dream’s just being way to nice to some of these channels that are just leeching off of his content. If he doesn’t want to copyright them, he should at least get a percentage of the money specific channels (like dream’s mom) are making because at then end of the day, it’s his content and they barely add anything to it other than putting a bunch of clips together
Sometimes I feel like he's just too nice to his fans, especially the toxic ones that don't deserve the kindness he gives them :/
Chara Blue he’s also too nice by looking over many of things that other famous people generally have a slight problem with such as fanfics and shipping and people are taking advantage of that. I saw a comment that was kinda sexual about him and george and it was uncomfortable reading it (and I’m someone who has a Wattpad account) and when people were pointing that out, the person defended themselves by saying that dream’s okay with it. Like there should always be a line but he hasn’t shown us what the line is so people keep crossing it without knowing or caring
Yeah but going through those videos and cuting them together is time and effort. I think Dream recognizes that and is fine with that because he doesnt care to put that effort in himself. As he said, if he wanted to, he would do it, but he doesnt want to so why stop someone else from doing it? It's on him for not tapping into that market and I agree with Schlatt that the smartest thing to do is make a contract with a compilation channel you like to recieve part of the revenue without claiming all the money from the work that compilator did put into it that the original creator couldnt be assed to do. It's a market they should tap into and it s god advertising. I wouldnt have started watching dream smp videos or Tommy and Tubbo if it werent for youtube advertising compilation videos.
I disagree. Whether you like it or not, these channels are not leeching; they have a symbiotic relationship with dream, making him the fastest growing channel on the platform. I can't believe after all these years more people haven't realized that the people who encourage compilation channels and animations become extremely relevant. Dream, Carson, Game Grumps, Oneyplays, Pewdiepie, and all the biggest players realized this, so why can't people like you see this.

Here’s my opinion on the channels:
Mugo: Only one I like. They put in a lot of effort into their videos.
Space Croissant: I don’t really like them, but they at least put in effort to their vids
Dream’s mom: They really shouldn’t be growing this fast. I view them as a leach, not a good one that can use a bigger youtuber to help their channel but still do their own thing (Tommy, Dream, and BBH are some of the best examples of people who are in the latter example.)
Peenk: They’re like Dream’s mom, but I kind of have a problem how they are getting bigger from twitter drama.

skeppy has 7 channels I think and 3 of them posts the exact same content, it's a pretty smart move actually you can get more of your videos recommended since UA-cam sees them as different channels therefore your profits are increased. He's also slowly trying to branch out his content from the old trolling ones, more diversity.....

Footage not intended to go public shouldn't no matter whether transformative or not. Definitely need permission from the creator. Just like how games have control over who uses their media the same goes for dream and sapnap's audio.

I fully agree with Jschlatt's opinion. If a channel is clearly just downloading/recording someone else's video, then, of course, you should claim it's revenue since there is no work in doing something like that and if someone actually does put in the effort to do something transformative, I wouldn't mind either not claiming the video or striking a deal.
I have to say from a marketing perspective Dreams approach to conpilations is amazing. If you can deal with all the shippers and stuff then the amount of free marketing is invaluable and you can see on his channel how well that works.
Only because he posts well edited and professional content, however for tommy and/or schlatt they focus on their vods and occasionally stream vids.
I'd say the downside is that it creates a somewhat (in most cases, very) unhealthy relationship between the creator and the fans. If the creator doesn't define and draw lines, the fans are going to cross them, whether intentional or not. There's been things Dream's fans have done that you can tell make Dream uncomfortable, but he's either unsure of what to do or too kind to spell it out. It's really unfortunate, and I think if it continues it'll grow so bad that it'll start crippling Dream's passion for what he's doing. So many of his fans are possessive, clingy, and entitled on what they think he should do and who he should do it with, which, in large enough numbers, could definitely damage anything he does with someone Dream wants to play with and his fans don't (which has already happened on occasion with Schlatt).
It's a quick rise to fame, but it's like a fire being lit with gasoline. Add too much and it'll push past the boundaries and cause destruction where it was once providing benefits.
1:40 The positives are a convenience for the most part. There's channels even stealing offline content mixed in with the live content. Not even being transformative/ fair use.
"Lunch Club Clips" taking Schlatt's UA-cam content since he's offline now. That's disrespectful to the effort Schlatt puts in his videos; what Dream says 8:00.

ive been commenting on the youtube channel "dreams mum" for ages, pointing out that its literaly just reposts of streams, most of their videos arent even highlights, just 30 mins of stream, no effort and they have almost 300k subs. its just unfair

Me too. This is literally what I’ve been telling everyone, and I got attacked with hate comments for it. And dreams mom puts a CRAZY amount of ads on her videos. On one of her recent videos where it was bad, skeppy, dream and sapnap practising, she put 6 ads on it manually. 6 ads on a video that is over 10 minutes with hundreds of thousands of views is equal to - *a lot of money.*
Space croissant does genuine edditing and makes their own jokes. They have their own comunity and they make a point of making it entertaining in a different way. If your just going to repost content I could get to the original of in three clicks, don't bother I guess.

I agree with both, it all just comes down to opinion.
I'd sub to a small channel that credits the videos they took the clips from and even ask them to sub to the content creaters.
But those who actually do put ads and push it to 10 mins, im not judging and they may need the money, but hopefully they have asked for permission to use these clips and stuff.
If a content creator did ask you to take a video down or at least get a contract with them, it's honestly not bad. If people think just because a creator earns a lot of money, they don't need more which is honestly stupid. They are still entitled to what they make and still own rights and the money. Its their content that THEY worked for. If some small channel want to milk in money from YOUR content, I'd want at least some part of that money. Its not wrong, its just my personal preference.
And those who actually do upload the whole streams from twitch. It's honestly horrible to do that, even adding ads throughout. There's a reason why that stream is in another website, if fans want content, then go on twitch and get that content from the real deal, its free and you have to watch LESSER ads there for a replay of the stream. And you can even watch it LIVE and communicate from the creator! It's just like UA-cam but more streams.

I’ll be honest, tommy should start working out deals with the comp channels. More times than I’d like to admit, I’ve seen the compilations before the actual video it was sourced from, so they’re technically getting all the views that tommy should’ve gotten. I’m not even an avid fan of tommy (I casually watch his shit and don’t really watch his streams) and I get compilation channels in my recommended more times than tommy himself lol

these compilations were the reason i found out about dream, jschlatt, tommyinnit, etc and without them, i wouldve never come to know these mcyters. i love the silly edits and compilations and what makes them so cool is that they really highlight the personalities of each cc, further pushing me to follow the original cc and see more of their content. as long as they give credits where its due, im personally cool w compilations, they are good advertisements for cc
I'm actually subbed to a few of the channels here such as the lunchables and peenk. Personally I think if someone's going to edit someone's video down to less than like 2 hours which they normally are, I like that, for example videos on the SMP are uploaded weeks after it happened to Tommy's channel and I don't always want to watch a 2 hour vod, the channels who are at least somewhat editing it down are really useful to me. Also I actually watched dream and George being gay for 10 minutes (mentioned at 10:34) before this.
Cutting down a 2 hour vod into 3 minutes of unedited footage takes barely any time , the only channel that I like that was mentioned is mugo because he doesn't just reupload parts of their streams he does the really cool and funny edits.

I definitely am definitely behind the idea of a creator making their own channel to edit clips or making a contract with someone else. It takes time to do those edits that the creator may not want to put time into making but there is a market for. I dont have time to watch vods sometimes. I would rather watch something official that the creator endorses because then it's legit and likely higher quality because someone is being paid to do it, but if the creator doesnt want to do that, I would still probably watch unnofficial ones.

I’m not gonna lie the stream clips help me a lot sense most of the time I can’t find more of your content so I go to those clips instead of going to twitch cause I don’t feel like watching a 2 hour stream for one scene.
It's this business side of UA-cam that makes me apprehensive about doing UA-cam seriously.

To be honest, I got to your channel through these highlight channels back when SMP World was a thing. Through these highlights you can see what kind of content do the YTbers make (for an example you were starting wars you couldn't win, which I found funny).
I personally do not subscribe to compilation channels or fan channels because I know these channels do not last long... someday they'll stop because these are dependent on other channels

I think for people who have Vod channels and their streams are a main source of content like Wilbur, Tommy, and Tubbo. These kinds of channels take away viewers from them, and make money off of re uploading a stream or a few clips. But for people like dream who doesn’t really use his streams and post them the compilation channels are fine by him and people have access to his streams now, so it comes down to the individual but more often than not these channels are more in the wrong than right. But always better to look cause by case!
