  • Hazzan Nachshon Rodriques Pereira, member of the Bendigamos Portuguese community of Amsterdam reads the Emor Torah portion and the haftarah according to the Portuguese tradition. Nachshon has been reading the Torah in the synagogue for 20 years and the haftarah since the age of 7.
As you listen, notice the Portuguese pronunciation of the Hebrew letter "ain" as "ng." This pronunciation has been adopted by the varying Jewish communities in Amsterdam. It is also characteristic of the Italian Jewish community.
