My chemistry teacher just suddenly made us take a test in this alone with them and it's like the third week of school.. We've only practiced it once so I was really confused. Watching this helped, thank you :)
1: Connect the hose from the burner to the gas jet 2: close both the gas control valve and air control valve on your burner 3: turn on the gas at source 4: light the grill lighter. 5: while holding the grill lighter to the burner, slowly open the gas control valve on the burner
At the beginning she said turn the barrel clockwise to completely close the air inlet. (If we close it, there will not be any air inside.) At the end she said turn the flame back to yellow by letting in more air and do this by turning the barrel in the clockwise direction. When we turn the barrel in the clockwise direction, we close the air inlet (she said this at the beginning). And if we close the air inlet, there will not be any air inside. So we are not letting more air in instead we are reducing its amount.
I was supposed to be watching this for schooling but your voice sounded so soothing so i had to watch it all again so i could get " rules for the bunsen burner " down .
At 3:20, I believe you are teaching how to shut off the bunsen burner incorrectly. Instead of "letting more air in" as you instruct to turn the flame yellow "safety flame", you should be letting LESS air in by closing the air holes.
I was also bit confused in that part cause when we were using the Bunsen burner we were turning the collar counterclockwise to let lesser air to pass. Thanks.
We used that in school it was fun we filled test tubes with water and lit the bunsen burner moved the test tube above it and it boiled it was fun and in my group the water jumped out of it!
We set the gas taps on fire, the teacher calmly walks over and used a science stick to turn the tap off. It was not the first time he'd seen our 'trick'..🤣❤️
Yeah, our teacher just had a valve behind his desk that would turn all the gas in the lab off, would seem like just turning the main valve off is the way to go.
Please answer me : what could be an advantage of the busnsen burner over candles ? Options : 1) we can control the flame size of a bunsen burner 2) we can control the flame size of a candle 3) there is no advantage 4) flame size of both candle and burner are same
curious to know why allowing more air, turns the flame from yellow to blue color? Also, how smoke is reduced to zero? the same principles applies in car engine? pls let me knw, thanks
The flame is blue because the gas molecules are excited and fluoresce and hydrogen and carbon have spectral emissions in the blue and purple regions of the spectrum, the yellow colour is due to incandescence (like in an old lightbulb) because combustion is incomplete you get particles of carbon in the form of soot, when they are heated by the flame they glow at a temperature relative to their heat in the way metal will glow red through orange to white as it gets hot, this is because the particles vibrate causing their charges to fluctuate on a micro scale and leading to a more broad emission of EM radiation, the temperature is not high enough for this to lead to a lot of blue light being emitted, there is still a blue portion to the flame but the yellowcovers most of it and the carbon continues to emit light well above where the flame would normally end.
I am watching this right now because I’m on the school bus and the reason is because yesterday I broke down in tears because I couldn’t even light the match ☹️ I really am terrified of fire lmao 🤣
I did it today and I think I lit a match to start off with that I then put onto the tip of it which then started to light up when I turned the gas tap on. I did something else but it made a roaring sound and all these blue flames came up. I panicked and screamed but luckily I managed to turn it off. Also my science teacher said about turning the gas on in the room and I got scared as I thought that it was mustard gas or something 😂😂🤣
Isn't it standard to turn off the main gas valve before messing with the air intake collar and gas needle valve? That's what my teacher taught us, at least.
+Michael Shamash thank you!! because when I'm in my chem lab i don't want to be seen as inexperienced. I might have to practice some times so i master the thecnique .
One time my friend accidentally tipped the bunsen burner, and the gas tap was lit on a small fire. It didn't explode, but I do wonder why it didn't. Any explanations?
I am a post graduate passed person and I recently bought one for my own purpose. Even though I am Pro in using it still i watch almost 5-6 videos regarding how to use it.... I am scared to use it at home.... Lolz
A lot of drama, the steps are: turn on the gas tap, use ur smoking lighter or whatever thing around you to have the flame, when you finish working, turn off the gas tap and go do other things
Som much of safety procedures??? Wow!!! In my school Chemistry lab, we got Bunsen burners burning blue and all around he place and unattended. People even deal with concentrated acid with no safety clothing like gloves.
My alc teacher just randomly started a project at home telling us to light a bunsen burner while recording then send it to them for extra credit (online school) ,but while i was lighting it my elbow got burnt while getting something ,it was a 2 degree burn it hurt like hell (i was hovering on the fire for a good 2 second cause of me not seeing i was LITERALY BURNING and cause my reaction time is shit)i didn't ho to the hospital i just put it on some warm water let it rest for a few days i was good as new. (I didn't get the extra credit cause i didn't finish the video :( )
I liked the clear instructions, however, found many spelling errors in the first approximate minute of the youtube and noticed "to" was supposed to be "too" and definitely was spelled incorrectly as well. I think that efficiently is not spelled efficiantly or otherwise, it bothered me honestly, please adjust.

Same
Bru, it’s the first week of school for us.
@@Benji-pt4gt that comment was 6 years ago
Lol, which grade were you in? I did it when I was in grade 6 lmao.
Same
1: Connect the hose from the burner to the gas jet
2: close both the gas control valve and air control valve on your burner
3: turn on the gas at source
4: light the grill lighter.
5: while holding the grill lighter to the burner, slowly open the gas control valve on the burner
Brings back memories of high school science classes nearly 40 years ago!
@Don't look at my picture shut up
Is everyone watching this for school homework?
I am
Yes
No I’m watching to see if they show a strike back
Yup
yes 😐
THIS is the way that I was taught to light a Bunsen burner in a laboratory environment: Thank you for your post.
We had this bunsen burner license test yesterday and i failed. After watching this video i was confiedent and prepared to do the test again.
Thanks!
I nearly failed the Bunsen burner license 🙁
I just made a flamethrower and skipped that stuff
she said at the end, you turn the flame Yellow by adding more air in. I thought adding more air makes it turn blue
yea
At the beginning she said turn the barrel clockwise to completely close the air inlet. (If we close it, there will not be any air inside.) At the end she said turn the flame back to yellow by letting in more air and do this by turning the barrel in the clockwise direction. So we are not letting more air in instead we are reducing its amount.
She definitely said letting more air, so she made a mistake
watching this was my school homework XD
watching this helped me with my school homework
+Purple Louise really, lol. same for me. what school?
+MC-Drakers stalker
+Charlie May lol
+MC-Drakers Me too
What A Coincidence?!? :)
We have different models of the Bunsen burner but this still helped, thanks!
Thx for doing my science homework for me
SAME
Faith Stone same I wasn’t listening so I had to do homework and then I didn’t know what to do so I was just like u know what yt my therapy
None of us in school actually turn it off "the correct way" we just cut off the gas tap regardless what flame it is on :S
yeah true im in year 7 and they dont even care LOL ;)
Won't gas get trapped in the hose if we close the tap last?
My science teacher told me to watch this accually it's not that bad 😅
LOLLLL
I was supposed to be watching this for schooling but your voice sounded so soothing so i had to watch it all again so i could get " rules for the bunsen burner " down .

who is bunsen and why did you hurt him

Wow nice am watching it because of home work
in my science class, we called the fully starved yellow flame a 'safety flame' as it was safer to visibly see.
Thx for doing my science homework hun c
We set the gas taps on fire, the teacher calmly walks over and used a science stick to turn the tap off. It was not the first time he'd seen our 'trick'..🤣❤️

You should never leave your bunsen burner when it's 😤💯🅱*LIT*😤💯🅱.
I’m in isolation and I have to watch this
Lollll
3:18 to turn the flame back to yellow, you must close the air holes.
Watching for my science homework
Please answer me : what could be an advantage of the busnsen burner over candles ?
Options : 1) we can control the flame size of a bunsen burner
2) we can control the flame size of a candle

4) flame size of both candle and burner are same
Today in school me and my class did bunsen burner in science lesson
Anybody is here in 2021?
its actually cool when u do it
U just carried my chem final
this is my school homework 😂😂😂 👏🏾
Is it true you have to light it with a splint and start from the bottom
This is an excellent video. Thanks for posting!
curious to know why allowing more air, turns the flame from yellow to blue color? Also, how smoke is reduced to zero? the same principles applies in car engine? pls let me knw, thanks

When turning the burner off, the main gas valve is closed Then the burner valve to get the rest of the gas out of the tube. right?
I was asked to watch this and then put a list of whats incorrect with it for my homework
I am watching this right now because I’m on the school bus and the reason is because yesterday I broke down in tears because I couldn’t even light the match ☹️ I really am terrified of fire lmao 🤣
a quick strike of friction and you've got fire
I did it today and I think I lit a match to start off with that I then put onto the tip of it which then started to light up when I turned the gas tap on. I did something else but it made a roaring sound and all these blue flames came up. I panicked and screamed but luckily I managed to turn it off. Hello Mr. Villamizar
Just giving a shoutout to my teacher.
Isn't it standard to turn off the main gas valve before messing with the air intake collar and gas needle valve? That's what my teacher taught us, at least.
Fun fact I thought a bunsen burner was completely different and now I gotta keep my word because I told a teacher I can use one
actually , first turn off the main gas tap to let all the gas left on the hose burn out , then turn off thr burner. Safety first
Bunsen burner nice little earner
Lol Nooooo
Our teacher always taught us to turn the gas on last. Light match first, then open the gas
In my school we use the gas tap instead of the thing
does strike back really have green fire?
You only have 1 error. U r missing a heatproof mat. Great vid though. Trying to get my Bunsen licence today :)
Don't need one on the black ceramic lab benches
What happens if I apply too much force in the air inlet?
+Michael Shamash thank you!! because when I'm in my chem lab i don't want to be seen as inexperienced. I might have to practice some times so i master the thecnique .
it will blow up
Who invented the Bunsen burner?
I think this video is great! But you should really change your name to "How To Use/Light a Bunsen Burner" so you can get more views
For the record, flammable and inflammable mean the same thing
I am doing a test. the test is to try to use a Bunsen burner. my friend passed and she said some students cried
One time my friend accidentally tipped the bunsen burner, and the gas tap was lit on a small fire. It didn't explode, but I do wonder why it didn't. Any explanations?
maybe because there wasn't something expanding the fire it did not resolve in something massive that is my theory
We, russian, will never understand why someone should explain this to someone.
10 years ago😲 in 2021
How hot does the blue flame get..
