Agreed, immigration itself is not necessarily a problem but if we fail to properly screen those being admitted and do nothing to ensure that they will properly assimilate then we're destroying the very culture that allows the West to be such a desirable place to live.

    • @CCRider100
      @CCRider100 5 років тому +2

IMO, the bigger problem is that over the past 20 years, about 70% of immigrants to Canada have ended up in just 3 cities (Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal), the rest of this massive country got only 30% of the immigrants This puts tremendous strain on the infrastructure of these 3 cities, and has made them less livable places for the average Canadian. Unless of course, you are someone who purchased a house 35 years ago in Vancouver for say $100,000, and that is valued today at $2.5M. These people LOVE mass immigration, can not get enough of it.
To add to the real estate market gone mad, there is also increased traffic congestion, longer hospital wait times, family doctors no longer taking new patients, walk-in clinics closing well before their posted times because they are all full up for the day, and less overall social cohesion (human beings are tribal creatures and tend to prefer similarity NOT diversity in their own personal lives).

I had a bit of an epiphany the other day watching a UA-cam video joking about how Asians in the U.S. all wanted to be black growing up, because they felt Asians were't seen as cool, because, I guess, black people there have a more celebrated or distinct cultural identity. I'm a first generation Asian immigrant to Canada and I realized that I have _never_ wanted to come from any culture but my own growing up. When asked about my original nationality I have no problem responding to the question with enthusiasm. I have always felt accepted and celebrated. I've never felt like a stranger. Today, I am undoubtedly shaped by my early childhood in my country of birth, I still speak, read and write in my first language, but Canada is the core of my identity. I remember learning to skate here, how soap-slippery the ice felt after the ice resurfacer just finished. I remember making dirty snowballs as tall as I am during recess in winter. I remember putting on my first puffy winter coat. I remember the first time I had hot chocolate. I remember sledding on red plastic sleds. I remember the sound a snow shovel makes scrapping against pavement. I remember the smell of mown grass and blowing enormous dandelion puffs. I remember pressing the red plastic stop button on the bus. I remember how beautiful the colour of the water is in Lake Louise. I have all of this because this country welcomed us when my family immigrated here and I can have all this without any sense of alienation or inner conflict with the culture of my parents and grandparents because we were never expected to give up who we were to be part of this country.
I know it's not easy to accept people that are different from us, to entrust to strangers values, traditions and memories that we hold dear. I think that it is an absolutely astounding expression of the generosity of human nature that this country can have the immigration model that it has. I know this is all fragile and that if the circumstances of history were different, things could easily have been different. As far as my own experience, the "cultural mosaic" has worked for me, it has made me a better and more open-minded person, it has given me an inexpressibly wonderful and untainted childhood, it has made me prouder than I can say to be Canadian.
I know it's a running joke here that we lack a unique culture and identity in Canada, but I think that with the recent movements in the world, it's more obvious than ever who we are. The world's impression of our attitude towards immigration - whether we wholly deserve it or not - is that of an incredible beacon of humaneness and tolerance. I think that Canada as it is today - even if it may seem that our history is less continuous and less rich than the likes of Scotland or Japan - I think that we are a young country still and our history is still being written. And I want to be a part of it, to continue to push it towards, as my grandmother called it when she first visited this place, a utopia, to help perpetuate the ideals of tolerance that have done so much for me, to give back to this unique and wonderful place that we've all been lucky enough, whether by birth or immigration, to have in our hands.

The immigrants do not integrate in the lower income sectors of the economy. They form their own groups at the employment level as well as where they live. The Canadians that experience this feel segregated and negative feeling/thoughts ensue. If you have ten employees from the same country as an example they speak their own language at the work place and segregate the English/French speaking people there. Obviously it is also a management problem as they do not have the skills to deal with this issue and tend to ignore it. We need to be realistic: Canada and other Western countries did not attract millions from the third world because conditions there are so great.
Those who made up previous waves of immigration came to the West because they wanted a better life. And whether the 'compassion-and-tolerance' crowd is able to grasp this very basic point or not, immigrants are certainly able to: the fact that life in Western countries is far better than where the immigrants came from has a direct connection with the characters, systems of ethics, histories and cultures of those peoples who created and built both environments.
If hearing this from a white person overrides ones sensibilities into accusations of "racism", then ask any 2nd-wave immigrant who actually earned their right to be Canadian, and say the same damn thing. They correctly understand that if you tip the scales of the receiving countries far enough, they’ll turn into what they left the third world to get away from - and they don't want that.

Excellent propaganda! would have been nice to also mention the latest sexual assaults of 6 teenage girls by the newest Syrian refugees, especially the 36 years old Syrian man who assaulted young girls in the swimming pool. This story is very biased, very one sided. Canadians are not antiimigrants, least not yet; but more and more Canadians now worry about security, about these sexual harassment that made European countries so infamous, and now the same problems keep popping up all over in Canadian lands as well by the very same immigrants. Yes, we are still open for the idea of immigration, but not uncensored immigration. If these new types of refugees keep coming in, those who brings violence, beat up locals, sexually harass girls and women, etc., Canada might just loses it's favour toward migration. So, it all comes down to a question; is it worthy to push a propaganda just for political advancement? Immigration was never a problem in this country before, but lately it becomes more problematic. So called "experts" should start asking questions of why? and better they find the answer soon, our our welcoming mentality might just change for good!

Why dont you think about the old immigrants from Europe who build canada ,where are the old canadians generation ,,, where can we find the french american European population ? Its also very frindly to invite the immigrants, but there must be some regulation, if you wanna save your own history ,,,how looks the country if their politics change their native population into immigration population ?The same question goes to the immigrants ,,,how would look their native countrys if their politics would change their native population into immigrant population ,,how do you think about ;)

Immigration is changing the way Canada is and was. Im all for to help people in need, but we have people that are already Canadians that need help. Plus, if you come to Canada and want to be a true Canadian you should have to adapt and not want to change things that is and was for many, many, many years. i think most honest people dont care about most immigrants, but you have to look at the broader picture of what type of immigrants they are. sure we were a nation of immigrants starting out in canada....predominately british isle and some french.
so basically white western european christians, then they started letting italians, jews, greeks ,slavs and even the irish and there was some hiccups but we got majority assimilation.
however, if we all dont want to say what we already know about a certain group, then youre not being honest and within that group there is a strong push not to assimilate into canadian/western culture.
you wouldnt move to japan, put in all that work to go there and not learn the language, not try the food, especially not act politically and try to change laws of that government, that would be absurd, no? wouldnt you want to talk with others and experience new things? its cause this certain group is well known for not being fond of outside influences..

I am an immigrant. I came to Canada in 2008 when I was 26 years old. I have made friends, real friends, that were born and raised here. I am from Latin America and my friends are from Canada, England, Poland, Mexico, Rumania, China, El Salvador, Spain, Colombia, India, Vietnam and France. And I mean friends, no acquaintances. We do build relationships with people that don't necessarily share our religion, language or culture, we do share something though, open minds and empathy. Since I came I have worked really really hard and I have paid my taxes like anyone else. I love the country where I was born but I also love Canada. Canada and its people are engraved in my heart. I feel as proud when I sing my native National Anthem as I do when I sing my Canadian Anthem, because it's mine too. I didn't go through a face to face interview, but believe me, to enter Canada is not easy at all. It's not like the doors are open and anyone can come in. My message is that we immigrants contribute enormously to the country and we do it happily and not only looking financial benefits, and the reason is because Canada offers so much more than that. Canada offers an amazing culture of respect, helpfulness, community, integration, strong pride on its history, kindness and support among many other awesome things. Our loved country is aging, Canada does need immigration to keep its stability and to grow, we simply need it. Just as we immigrants love Canada based on the 95% of good experiences and kind people we have met here, I hope born and raised Canadians appreciate the 95% if not 98% of good immigrants that leave everything, everything behind to come to this country and become part of this incredible fabric made out of such colorful and interesting fibers, all woven together to form this strong and harmonic country.

Raphael Lemkin, Polish Jewish jurist "By "genocide" we mean the destruction of an ethnic group…. Generally speaking, genocide does not necessarily mean the immediate destruction of a nation, except when accomplished by mass killings of all members of a nation. It is intended rather to signify a coordinated plan of different actions aiming at the destruction of essential foundations of the life of national groups, with the aim of annihilating the groups themselves. The objectives of such a plan would be disintegration of the political and social institutions, of culture, language, national feelings, religion, and the economic existence of national groups, and the destruction of the personal security, liberty, health, dignity, and even the lives of the individuals belonging to such groups…. Mulitculturalism in Canada is a sham and has FAILED. I am a mixed race person, born and raised in Canada, who has come to realize over the years through experiences at work and (and out of work-) socializing that, Multiculturalism has NOT created a pluralistic democratic minded society open to change and adaption, but one that still revers - celebrates each singular ethnic identity above else .
Look at vast majority of Whites, Asians, Blacks, Latinos in urban centres here they are " really happy and thrilled " to just to "survive" and live - exist next ( or as far apart if you will from) to each other and pretend this is multiculturalism. Most have Zero Interest in Learning anything about Canada anything let alone have any curiousity to learn something about another ethnic group's history, cultural background and values. Immigration is making this worse, and people are willingly retreating into this shell of unwritten segregation.
To be more blunt, for a so called "multicultural;" city like Toronto, you hardly ever see inter-racial couples / marriages or gatherings, it is almost as if every racial group ( imbued also with their own prejudices and feelings of superiority ) prefers and wants to NOT "mix" or "mingle". Their mentality is inherently CONSERVATIVE.
Many immigrants might vote Liberal NOT because they personally identify with liberal values, but because Liberal Politics is nothing more to them than a vehicle to get their own perks for themselves or family. Another example are many people from China who come to Canada just to exploit and milk it for their own benefits ( passports and making $$$$), they bring in lotta $$ in buy various homes and rent them out for tax free profit without even properly learning either any or properly English Language along the way ( even if they live here long enough)
Divisions are already in Canada, lets not kid ourselves, but polite Canadians are much better than their American cousins at pretending there is NO problem in Canada, and saying "look at US . They are so so terrible". Too many double standards and hollow rhetoric going round these days. So you don't have be a Populist to see whats wrong.

I think multiculturalism and diversity is good to a certain degree. Immigrants should certainly be allowed to carry cultural aspects from their original countries and practice their culture in which they are comfortable with, set up ethnic restaurants, temples, mosques, gurdwaras and be allowed to live the way they want. Being in a diverse area helps one to become more understanding, accepting, humble and wayyy less judgmental. However, at the same time they certainly should NOT huddle in their own ethnic ghettos and isolate them/their families from mainstream. They do not need to speak fluent English (very basic is more than sufficient), eat hot dogs and wear skirts to integrate, but rather be open to other people in their country, make friends and bond with them, help them out when in trouble. Doesn't matter skin color, gender, race or ethnicity. Rather you see the opposite and I noticed it's breeding a lot of intolerance, bigotry, racism and ignorance towards others outside their community/religion..etc. Reasons I heard before for not integrating is because it weakens the perseverance of "culture and tradition" and mixing with others outside the community causes dilution in values, tradition, leads to interracial/intercultural marriages..etc. This is true. But when thinking of it, has all of culture been preserved throughout generations? IMO cultures evolve, languages change, traditions fade and new ones are created. It's never stagnant and has been going on for centuries, and does NOT only happen in the west, but ALL countries. I don't know if I should feel sorry for children who are forbidden from interacting with "outsiders" and those who have a desire and express a certain identity are given grievances because it goes against the culture and tradition of their parents and they are forced to confine to follow. Parents should not dictate their kids' life, especially as adults. As immigrants, if you want your kids to be educated in western society and reap all the benefits, it's wrong to not let them imbibe Canadian/American or whatever values and let them be part of mainstream and create their own identity. While I agree with encouraging children to embrace the customs and heritage that their immigrant parents grew up with (and no it's different from forcing them to confine, which I see too often), I don't think parents should have the right to decide how the kids identify themselves. They should be able to create their own identity. It's no wonder there is so many ridiculous tensions/clashes between parents and children on culture etc and leads to broken relationships, self harm, insecurity..etc.

Diversity is not a badge of honor. Without some commonality plus integration it will ultimately lead to national disintegration. Kind of like management by committee. It invariably leads to the sub optimal solution and outcome. I laud these volunteers though for at least trying.

If you outlaw the burqa it is only logical to outlaw beards and makeup. With a beard a person can just shave it off or grow it and they have changed their appearance so as to be unrecognizable.Makeup is really a painted on disguise,I've seen the before and after makeup videos on UA-cam and the people at the start of the video look completely different from the people at the end of the video. As far as barbaric practices go telling people what to wear seems to be pretty barbaric to me,that bump on your shoulders isn't just a hat rack.
