Wow. How I didn't know this is beyond me, but I found this so unbelievably helpful that I had to actually write in. I've got a pair of Sennheiser IE8s that I love, but that I just can't seem to find the right tips for. I've tried custom molds and a number of different tips I've researched online, and while I've liked the comfort of the Complys, I never really dug the sound-- until now. Tyll, you're a lifesaver!!!!!!! :)
Awesome!! I just used this prep for my tx-500s and wow! This totally make a difference and makes my M6Ps sound better! Thank you for the tutorial, flipping the Complys would not work with the tx series because of the wax guard.
WOW. This helped immensely. Thank you. I just got a set of Comply Tips because NONE of the stock silicone tips for a pair of IEMs fit me... (medium ones hurt, small ones just fell out) and I was really disappointed with the sound until I tried this. TBH I still like the sound of the silicone tips better, but this at least makes it plenty tolerable!
I just tried this for my Noble Tridents, worked great! I can finally use them without having to constantly adjust it like I do when I use my silicone tips.
I just got a set of comfort tips and was looking online for tips on using them. At first I was trying your method and thinking it was worth considering, but then I was having trouble with the buds actually going into my ear and staying in. I noticed another guy in another video mention having that same problem with the comfort tips, and he was comparing them to the isolation and sport tips showing how they were not as round. So I tried again with my new comfort tips and gave a pulling crush to make them not as fat as I put them in my ear, and then just a lite push in and they were perfect. So your suggestion might be good for the isolation and sport tips, but the comfort are larger and seem to need to be pulled out flatter to fit in with a gentle touch. This is my initial experience.
OMG I'm really glad i found this video, i was really anoyed by my comply tips on my iems cuz i noticed a drop in the higs, so i was switching all day between silicone and comply all day, problem solved. THANKS A LOT!
I just use the foams inserted backward. The foam part ends together with the plastic tube, so it never muffles the sound. Particularly, doing this made possible the use of the terrible designed Triple Fi 10.
I'm pretty sure this wasn't happening for me, where the tip gets squished and it muffles the high end. I honestly believe that even when properly inserted, the isolation version of the comply foam buds are altering the frequency response. I read your analysis on the topic, but I swear it's the extra depth of the foam canal that's altering the frequency response.
I just started using them backwards, which means I don't have to squish them down at all. Just slip 'em in like silicones, and my treble is left unmolested! Comfort seems to be completely unaffected.
I had a pair of these but I let them sit out in the cold for to long and they got hard. And when they got soft again they got all squishy and fell apart. So keep then out of the cold if you want them to last.
Do you think you could do a review on the Audio Technica ATH-PRO700 MK2 50th anniversary edition. They seem pretty good, and it would be really awesome to get your view on them, since there are hardly any video reviews on it.
Those are earbuds, coloured sound, great for low quality MP3's but not IEM's, which are monitors and need to be clean and accurate, not bass or mid enhanced. For plugging in to your phone, ok. For studio or instrument use, useless.
I've never tried the Comply foam tips before. Are they more comfortable than stock silicone tips? If so, maybe I'll have to get a pair since I generally don't like in-ear earphones as a direct consequence of them being uncomfortable to wear for extended periods (very itchy ear canals + moisture = yuck).
But how you connect them to the earphones? I just returned a few of them becaus I wasn´t able to put them, I almost damaged my earphone trying to push them. Thanks a lot!
hey i was wondering if you knew of any in ear headphones that are comfortable, fit well, and provide good isolation. I've been using the klipsh image s4's for a while now however they broke. I need something for around 70 dollars. Thx, love the show and website
My brother has the same issue with cracking, which is strange because we bought 3 pairs between us and mine are going strong after 6 months while he broke both of his in less than two months. No idea what causes it :S
I have those but I ended up exchanging many of them. After I use them about 1 - 2 weeks, the crack and itches my ear. Don't know why that happens can anyone help?
Heres the problem whit mine im useing the jvc xx with the s400 i come to a concultion that thos dont isolate the sound they do a lil bit but they dont come close to what iv heard so can someone explain is it the headphone or the tip whats going on
No need to review apple products. They all got crap amplifiers. If they were good people wouldn't buy amplifiers or choose other brands such as samsung with the galaxy S3 which got one of the best audio chips in any phone. It's still not at a good amp level.
Oh my god, FINALLY I can get consistently great sounding highs out of my Sennheiser IE80s with comply tips. I wish I'd found this video two years ago.
Seriously. Its been more than 10 years since I buy Comply Tips and keep buy it since then. This is first time I learn.
Remember kids, always prepare the tip for insertion.
Don't be silly, wrap your willy!
who are you?

Great idea. These are the BEST earbud tips

Wow! This video explains a lot! Excellent! Thanks!
very simple, yet useful tip. thank you!
All earphones should come with these instead of the silicone ones, they're so much better!
Unfortunately far too few people know about this.. Thx for the vid!!
Great vid - thx Tyll. Totoally going to give my comply's another shot on the next commute!

Thanks! Maybe this is why I always get a better sound with silicone and have never chose too use comply tips.

I just ordered these for my UE350s. Hope they are good enough to let me sleep during the summer when the neighbors are noisy as hell!
Tyll i was having the same problem, thanks for the solution!
Do you know SPINFIT earbuds? They are not foam made, and preserves balanced bass/rest audition. I love them
Hi, Any tips on cleaning them?
Good point. Thanks for sharing, Tyll!
The idea is NO point.
Im going to have to try it, when i get home.
I had a pair of these but I let them sit out in the cold for to long and they got hard. And when they got soft again they got all squishy and fell apart. So keep then out of the cold if you want them to last.
I'm about to order a set for my Monoprice.

Great earbuds are the beats tour. I love the noise cancellation
Those are earbuds, coloured sound, great for low quality MP3's but not IEM's, which are monitors and need to be clean and accurate, not bass or mid enhanced. For plugging in to your phone, ok. For studio or instrument use, useless.
really nice. helped my westone 3 sound much better

I don't know. The cracks were huge and looks like it's tearing the tip apart. When it got critical, that's where it itches.

Hi And tips on cleaning them?
hqrsyd alcohol
Is that the small size?
Do you have to do this with the TS series
I have those but I ended up exchanging many of them. After I use them about 1 - 2 weeks, the crack and itches my ear. Don't know why that happens can anyone help?
lol. I've been wearing comply tips wrong up until now ...
I saw this 2 times to understand :P
I use one of those (the original from shure se215) and I can say that doesn't seems to be possible that it happens.
1:27 lol "Tip-ically"
top tip!
do you ever review music players? such as ipods, iphones or other phones? Or put differently apple players aren't the best are they?
shure olives ftw!!!
Maybe ur just not used to it.
Some people just don't like the feeling the way in ears are plugged in
1:57 I'm waiting for the foam to start talking. =)
"FEED ME Seymour!"
If there is an headphone God, Tyll is Jesus.
Nice tip (no pun intended)!
Heres the problem whit mine im useing the jvc xx with the s400 i come to a concultion that thos dont isolate the sound they do a lil bit but they dont come close to what iv heard so can someone explain is it the headphone or the tip whats going on
When you first get them, they feel like you're not wearing in-ears at all.
I've used them for years, never feels like you are wearing them. It would be a real issue when on stage or in studio for hours on end.
indeed
i knew people would say that so i decided to say it. counter trolled :)
No there not, Have you even heard headphones with them on?.
These failed on me after a week or two :9
Teo Hongwei did they broke¿
let me just stick the tip in...
that's what you think.
When you realise most of the comments are 6 years old
There's thousands of iems thats much better than beats
3:37 #nohomo
That's a pretty nice way to kill your eartips, thanks!
I've been doing it this way and after 3 weeks of a brand new pair, thety are already deteriorating, This really sucks.
My whole life is a lie
Does your mother still love you?
Phimosis.
