Refugio Frey | Patagonia, Argentina

We did the hike to Refugio Frey and Laguna Tonchek on Jan 6th, 2023.
If taking the bus to get to Cerro Cathedral, check well in advance if/when it makes a stop at your pickup location. It took us 2 tries before figuring out the right bus schedule. Also make sure before leaving the city that you have enough funds in your SUBE card to get there AND back, as there were a couple of people who had difficulty topping up their cards at Cerro Cathedral.
The trail was moderate, straight-forward, well maintained, beautiful and scenic (albeit very dusty). On our way back in the afternoon it got very hot and sunny, and with little to no shade along the trail we almost got sun burnt and heat stroke. So don’t forget to bring adequate water and sun protection!
