    In your sump you can use sponges and one side marine pure ball , great for holding good bacteria per square inch.
    Yes costly but a great product .
    Can’t wait to see your finish work. You bring joy and happiness to the hobby.

      Years ago I ran a 60 gallon with 2 small canister filters and a Marineland Emperor 400 HOB. One canister had MarinePure Cermedia in it and the other had Biohome Ultimate. It was the most stable and healthiest tank I’ve ever had.

    👍😎 Looks great, I wouldn’t want to cut the stand either. I’d use 2 - 40’s first. Jealous, could use all those totes right about now.

    Hey Ben, good stuff. I haven’t read the comments because I’m very busy myself, but don’t use 2 pumps. Just utilize a T- Union coming from the pump. It will work fine with a very strong pump.

    • @BenOchart
      @BenOchart  2 роки тому +1

      I believe that it would work but I keep hearing from reefer sites the many advantages of having "two hearts" (two pumps) in case one fails.

    Had to catch the replay. Love Mr. Mustard. A much better choice to use a 40 for the sump. Just thoughts from many years of gluing pvc joints. Slow down and make each joint ONE AT A TIME and you will have perfect leakproof joints at the end of the job. I have learned this one the hard way. Great video, we love seeing your progress as though we were there. Thank you.

    • @BenOchart
      @BenOchart  2 роки тому

      True. It's easy to get anxious and rush it, but it comes back to bite you later. I will cut, deburr, glue and insert each joint fully with a quarter turn and hold for 30 seconds, etc and make sure each joint is rock solid. I will also be providing some clamp support for each pipe, reducing the strain on the joints from weight. Yes, I'm watching a lot of UA-cam videos on sump plumbing and have ever realized areas where I could have done a better job with the plumbing of the 210. "Always be Learning!" Thanks!

    40 gallon sump is rather small. Make sure it doesn't overflow when the pump is turned off.- especially power outages. Unions are a wonderful way to disassemble, clean, replace, etc.

    Ben, are you going to do a Lethrinops tank again? It would be fun seeing a Discus tank from scratch too. That new 60 acryllic could work well for that ;)

    • @BenOchart
      @BenOchart  2 роки тому

      Lethrinops really rock. Somehow that Lethrinops Oculatus in the 210 is holding his own. I didn't think I would keep one with such big aggressive Haps. I'd love a gold or red cap, like the one I had in L.A. Another fish that I'm getting interested in are the Apisto's. Tremendous variety and color and they are not aggressive and work well with plants. A little small, but quite beautiful.

  • @cichlid_kings
    @cichlid_kings 2 роки тому

    You have your work cut out that's for sure. Nice progress. My wife called it on your last video. She said he's not gonna use that acyrlic for a sump watch 😂😂😂

    • @BenOchart
      @BenOchart  2 роки тому +1

      Smart gal 🤣. The main reason was having to cut open up the side to get it in. Didn’t want to cut that stand. Has it marked and the saw ready. Then I started thinking about what a nice apisto’s or planted Community that tank could be.

    You can use one return pump and use a t junction for your pump to connect to both returns. I do this with my Sicce on my 300 gallon tank

    • @BenOchart
      @BenOchart  2 роки тому

      I thought about that but I like the idea of a back up pump in case one fails.

      @@BenOchart fair enough. What brand of pump do you think you’ll go with?

  • @41keystar14
    @41keystar14 2 роки тому

    You should grow heavy vegetation underneath with grow lights and dose ferts up to you if you went with the 60 maybe freshwater refugium. Could do with 40 as well. You can use Rhizome plant so no substrate would be needed much cleaner. Light ferts or no ferts up to you skies the limit.

    • @BenOchart

      The stand was provided by the same company, GlassCages, that built the tank. I will use seeded media and perhaps throw in some Fritz Zyme 7.

    @BenOchart - as I look over your nice plumbing work I have a question. With an overflow/sump/pump return, how often does it require a thorough cleaning?

    • @BenOchart
      @BenOchart  2 роки тому

      Depends on your bioload and water turnover, but roughly once a year I take it apart. Truth is that those matten sponges are best left alone since they are a great home for BB. I only rinse them when I see the water level higher on one side, indicating that the sponges are clogging. But that can take a very long time to come about.
      All that being said, I swap out the filter socks twice a week and they are the "pre-filters" of the sump and do the heavy lifting when it comes to trapping detritus.

      Or transfer your beautiful cichlids to the 300 and add a few more beauty’s. and the 225 ? Can’t remember the size put your South American and add more different geophgus fish. They are more beautiful species out there.

  • @Gilsfishroom

    I have had a check valve fail in the past, so I have my returns just below the water level. My tank level only drops about 3/8 of an inch when the pumps are switched off. Drilling the holes for the overflow box was one of the most nerve wracking things I have ever done!

    • @BenOchart
      @BenOchart  2 роки тому +1

      Loc lines outputting right at the surface will also minimize the amount of water that can back siphon into the sump.

    • @Gilsfishroom
      @Gilsfishroom 2 роки тому

      I went over the top instead of drilling the returns, which allowed me to have 1 inch black poly pipe pointing diagonally downwards. This moves the detritus off the substrate without needing a large amount of flow as my South Americans don't appreciate too much current.
