Rolls Royce Trent 700 (Cathay Pacific A330-300) VS. Rolls Royce Trent XWB (Cathay Pacific A350-900), which one do you like?
The Trent 700 was born to meet the engine needs of the Airbus A330 series, and compete with PW4000-100(Pratt & Whitney) and CF6-80E1(General Electric) in the market at the same time. At first, the Trent 700 was not accepted by customers. Most customers choose the other two engines when they bought A330. It was until Cathay Pacific Airways choose Trent 700 as the engine of A330 that Trent 700 began to be accepted in the market (Cathay Pacific is the first customer of Trent 700). Now, Trent 700 has defeated its opponents and has the highest market share among A330 engines.
Cathay Pacific once operated the world’s first A330-300 and the world’s first Boeing 777. At the same time, it was the first customer to use Trent 700.
The Trent XWB was born to meet the engine needs of the Airbus A350 series. It is the only engine used in the A350, so there is currently no competitor in the market. The Trent XWB uses the technology of Trent 1000 in many parts, so it is also considered to be an engine evolved from the Trent 1000 (Both the Trent XWB(for A350 series) and Trent 7000(for A330neo series) are engines evolved from the Trent 1000). At the same time, the Trent XWB is also the engine with most powerful, heaviest weight and largest fan diameter among the Trent family.
The A350 with Trent XWB engine is the only one aircraft to pass the ETOPS-370 in the world. The ETOPS-370 is also currently the highest level in the Extended-range Twin-engine Operations Performance Standards.
