Cood "chickshaw", looks great! Just on the wheels seen as you were a bit hesitant about them, bicycle wheels will not work the way you have them, they will bend. It's not a case of them not being strong enough, but they are designed to be supported and have weight applied on both sides of the axel, so when it's only on one side they will bend.
You’ve hit the nail on the head. They do bend and eventually break. I’m currently working on a better solution. I kinda predicted it but was in a rush to get it built 😬
First night about 10 went in and I just placed the rest in and closed them up the next night 15 or so went in and I put the rest in and by night 4 all but 4or5 went in and since that every night every one goes in just at sunset thankfully.
Hi there Kilian. No we have had no problems at all. I trust the electric poultry netting but as an added line of protection I lock them in every night. We have at least two foxes on the farm and I see them regularly. When I do the meat birds they don’t have the added protection of being locked in and again no problems. That is not to say we won’t in the future but all good so far. The pine marten is the fella I’m most concerned about. If he gets in he would wipe them all out in one go 😬 Thanks for watching 👍🏻
@@diffleysfamilyfarm5765 Thanks for that, we have just 4 laying hens at the moment but are looking to slowly build up a very small holding. Loved what you did with the meat chickens and maybe something i will be looking into. was all the equipment expensive to begin with? great series, watched them all in the past few days!
@@kilianfitzsimmons-wilson706 Ha. When I find a channel I like I find myself binge watching all the videos as well. 😂 thanks. I started with 4 laying hens in an estate in the town so it is completely doable. The processing equipment for the meat chickens are expensive but if your lucky you might be able to pick something up on done deal. I imported mine from China. I done 50 birds my first year without the equipment and it took too days. It is easier and more enjoyable if you have the gear but if you are handy you can make up something kinda similar. Start small with 10 meat chickens or 20 and see how it goes. It is only 8 weeks so you will know if it is for you or not after that. I can honestly say the meat from a pasture raised chicken is 100 times better than any other chicken we have ever eaten and they have a great quality of life all be it short. Best of luck and keep us posted on how you go 👍🏻
Just finished binge watching the whole lot, really enjoyed it. Do you sell the meat birds too or just for your own consumption? Chickshaw looks great, nice work on the roll away nest boxes and repurposing the blue sheet.
Great Chick Shaw!! Good luck with all the egg layers.

Wonder if they started to go in it voluntarily.
