Ben, thanks so much for posting this video. Because of you I just did this to my 01 Box S, and man was it filthy! Piles and piles of leaves, bird feathers, sand, cig butts, branches, part of a Christmas tree ornament, etc, etc. Please keep them coming!
John Marsh hello there i own. A 2001 S and want to do that cleaning myself but I noticed it has like 3 radiators ? Was it easy to take bumper out ? And clean them ? Pls advise ..also how long did it take you to do it ? And do you need to mess with the radiator fluid etc ..
Thank you and well done Ben on another great and necessary maintenance recommendation. The process went exactly as described. I also went with the custom mesh upgrade for the intakes when the Rennline mesh kit failed to fit properly. Your attention to detail, excellent verbalization and good humor make the videos particularly helpful and entertaining as well.
Brilliant video, mate. Helped me a lot during the cleaning process. There was so much junk in between the condenser and the radiator. No overheating anymore!
I just bought a 98 Porsche and it's running hot (about 200 or the back of the zero on 180) so ill be doing this tonight! Thanks for the instructions! :)
Excellent guidance - many thanks for making this video! I don't own a Boxster yet, but want to learn about doing as much of my own maintenance as possible, and your channel and knowledge are great. Cleaning radiators is not only essential for efficiency, but also to prevent external corrosion. Most road debris is tannic (acidic), especially leaves and pine needles, and will cause rust (on steal and aluminium) over time.
My goal is a manual 981 base as a daily driver - reliable enough for frequent use, and fun for weekend trips. It should hold some of its value as the last non-turbo Boxster.
Should be a great car. I'm also interested to see what happens to values in the long term. The Boxster is going to be part of the Porsche lineup for a long time, and the switch to a flat 4 could definitely impact values. Cheers!
just did this to my 2000 boxster this evening. thanks for the vid! Helped make the job painless. Cleaned a lot of junk out of mine and repaired some bumper fastening holes too.
Sweet channel! I remember watching your videos a few years back when my window actuators failed on my beater e36. Great help! Cool to see you still making car videos! :)
I did this task last week , was FULL of leaves and feathers even tho a garage had done and charged in the recent past for the previous owner. Also watched the serpentine belt replacement and thought I’d do that on my day off . Next day whilst out delivering food to family shielders to to Covid I thought a gun had been shot as the bang behind me made me jump. Water pump seized and broke and now I need a new water pump tensioner thermostat and belt. Hopefully get it done this week 🏴
Thanks Ben, looked easy until I went out to the garage and found that my 987 bumper has a totally different way of disconnecting. No matter, I'll figure it out especially after seeing all the crap you pulled out of yours! One thing; if you push the side marker lights back toward the rear of the car before you pull them out, rear of the light first, they'll come out much easier without the "...sounds like you broke it..." sound.
Hi, I really enjoy watching your videos thanks for sharing them. Have you considered putting some mesh inside the front grills to help stop leaves etc entering?
Hi, at the 3:50 point of the video, what is hanging down from the cover? I have the same thing currently hanging underneath my bumper, but not sure what it is. Thanks. Paul
Burner, thanks for showing how to remove the Front Bumper . I have wanted to remove mine so I can have it painted. It has some small rock chips and needs to be re-painted before having the clear Lumar film installed. The Local shop wants 766 bucks to re-paint with the Artic Silver paint. Way to much I think! . I removed my VW's front bumper and had the same shop repaint for $375. I reminded the shop owner of the VW's price verses the S, but got the answer it's 11 hours of labor that cost. I doubt that, it's PORSCHE he sees Money. I hope I can find a good shop that will re-paint for less money. Anyway thanks for the video, I enjoy them all.
Awesome! Glad I could help. It's nice it's so easy to remove. ...And I agree, that shop is ridiculous! Spraying paint on a bumper is the exact same process for any car. I don't see why it should cost so much more. Cheers!
OMG Ben, I must of missed this video and will now go ahead and clean my front radiator. I have done coolant flushes and water pump replacements, and water hose replacements, but I had no idea that this needs to be done. My 986 have been overheating in traffic for the past 4 years now and believe that this must be the reason why. Thanks Ben. Just wondering if you ever got your car back out on the road?
Great video. Thanks very much! It was a huge help (especially the WD-40 tip)! Previous owner of my new-to-me 996 did little or NO maintenance for a couple of years, and I found some really nasty gunk in there ...!
Great vid as usual.......Please tell me about your car cover....Im gunna kick my 986 out of the garage and onto the curb.......she needs a cover to keep clean after all of the detailing I have done to it since I purchased it recently. Thanks
Ben, My temperature meter is reading close to 200 in stop and go traffic. I replaced water pump and put a low temp thermo too. Now I am trying to clean the radiator. While cleaning the radiator other than vacuum did you do anything else like cleaning with water etc..
Thanks Ben. yep, the driver side fan resistor failed so it was not running on low speed. changed it over the weekend. And ran the car i see some improvement but still the temperature dial is beyond 180 close to 190-95 specially at traffic lights. So I am working on airlock theory..
I ended up attaching some aluminum screen (like what you'd use on a screened-in porch) on the backside of my front bumper cover to keep a lot of the schmoo from getting into the front radiators. It doesn't look bad at all, and it works very well! Also if you look at the back of the side-lights after you've popped them out, you'll see Audi logos on them! :) (Of course, that's because they're all part of VAG. I just thought it was funny to see on a Porsche.)
Hi, you make it look so easy... I tried and had a real hard time getting the plastic rivets out from the fender liner, broke one and then gave up before they were all broken. Where do you purchase them from? thanks again, very informative stuff. I am afraid to see what's behind the bumper, 'cause I don't think the person I bought the car from did anything to it.
I knnow me and taking things apart and trying to put it al back the way I found it and its not a strength of mine. That said nice video and I can see leaves inside grill on my 996.
In a parallel universe... I just bought a non-running 986 for a potential EV conversation. Tackling a lot of the same issues. Just got the ICE motor going and it's been a blast to drive! Now off to add an AUX cable.
Burner's Cars I love my 996.2 😍.. You've definitely had a hand in inspiring me to do do a lot of the maintenance on my Porsche. Luckily the IMS Bearing, RMS, and a new clutch was installed just before I bought the car (I have the receipts from the previous owner), but I love your channel, and envy the guts and determination you've gone through your car with! Thank you 😊
Awesome! Thank you, sir! I didn't start out with these big jobs, but I find the more jobs I tackle the more familiar and confident I become with my car. Keep up the fine work, and by the time you need a new clutch, you'll be able to drop the transmission like a pro!
Burner's Cars I cleaned my radiators on Sunday, and mine looked very similar to yours at 47,000 miles.. Although it was a bit frightening at first pulling my bumper off, It was a fun, easy project :-) I tried to post a pic, but UA-cam won't allow it I guess, lol
After vacuuming, but before rinsing, I would recommend spraying something on the condenser and radiator to soften/loosen the dirt. A product similar to this for the condenser, and something similar or the same that is safe for the radiator. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DM8KQ3I/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza

I just cleaned my radiators last night on my '99 boxster, thanks for all the great content!
Easily the best set of Porsche 986/ 996 videos. Thank you for a great ongoing effort.
Brilliant video, mate. Helped me a lot during the cleaning process. There was so much junk in between the condenser and the radiator. No overheating anymore!
Something i didnt think about. Ill be doing this soon to my used macan and panamera. Thanks for the great Porsche vids.

Thank you, sir! You're completely right! You'll love owning a Boxster! What years are you looking at?

Great video Burner, I’m looking to do this while I do water pump and thermostat!
Hi, at the 3:50 point of the video, what is hanging down from the cover? I have the same thing currently hanging underneath my bumper, but not sure what it is. Thanks. Paul
OK I scrolled down and see you responded to that already - it is the outside temp sensor.

Good video. Weird wear pattern on the tread of your passenger front tire... Any issues?
I checked my Boxster after watching this vid and it was pretty messy too. Thanks for the info!

I vacuumed first. That got most of it. I then sprayed it down with water just to be sure. Did you check to make sure the radiator fans work?
Thanks Ben. yep, the driver side fan resistor failed so it was not running on low speed. changed it over the weekend. And ran the car i see some improvement but still the temperature dial is beyond 180 close to 190-95 specially at traffic lights. So I am working on airlock theory..

Hey Ben 3:51 what is that pointy thing you unplug/remove from the air duct? And thanks for the informative vid, very much appreciated!
Thanks! It's the outside temperature sensor.
Car looks like a 986. You should post or mention the model because they are not all the same. Thanks for posting
Hello there I have a 2001 and it shows it has 3 radiators? Pls advise ...I've only owned it for a bout 2 weeks but I can see some leaves etc
Hello, sir! So the S version of the 986 has a center (third) radiator. All others have just two as far as I know.
Elana P. Did you try eBay ? Or Pelican parts ?
@@AverageGuy513 i tried amazon, they have sets for various cars, however, boxster is not included in compatible cars. They look similar idk
Holy crap. Who woulda thunk? Thanks for making this video.
Right? Everyone who's done this finds all kinds of crap in there!
Never thought it would of been so easy to remove the front bumper. Although I have a CaymenS I would assume it would be very similar?
yeah! I was surprised by how easy it was, too. Believe it should be pretty close to the same on your Caymen S.
That is excellent! I definitely hope to see more of your project!
Once again another great advocate video
where are you? miss the videos
Thank you, sir. You know how life gets in the way... but this is the kick I need to prioritize the next video!
You are welcome. I know what you mean. As a nooby Porsche 996 owner I have learnt a great deal from channels like yours. Thank you
Very informative, easy to follow.
Thanks for the video, I will be doing this soon to my 2004 996 😎
Awesome! I don't see enough 996s here. You've got to represent! The process should be the same. Cheers!

Great tip!
Awesome video!
Did you have any trouble realigning the bumper back on?
thanks! no trouble. there aren't that many adjustments, so it was pretty easy to get back on correctly.
mine burned up and engine and the other owner never cleaned them - makes sense now... you have to know what your doing with these little gem stones.
thanks for the info
great video!
Thank you, sir!
thanks for the info
