📚 Description: Today we check out the 2021 PRS McCarty Hollowbody II that I purchased from Sweetwater. The McCarty model was named after the President of Gibson that resided over the "golden era" of Gibson. Paul reached out to Ted in the 80s and the rest is history. How do I like this "gibsonized" prs? Let's find out!

Polite Correction: The quality of their tops starts at Core, then up to a 10 Top, then Artist Package, and the Private Stock is at the top tier, in that order. Wood Library tops are chosen by select dealers, and can vary.

I always appreciate separate volume and tone, BUT I CANNOT STAND the toggle switch on the horn of a double-cut.
On very select occasions you see some 594 double-cuts with the toggle down by the knobs like an LP Special DC (my favorite layout btw)

Gregory T Rupp I think his dislike of the wood binding is more specific to this instrument and its color choices/combination of the top and sides.
Myself, I love both versions of binding. My wife was also watching this video and immediately agreed about the color choices vibe when the image of Ronald McDonald flashed on the screen!

I've owned the PRS solid, single cut 594 since 2017 and must say it's incredible. The neck is asymmetrical carve. Pickups are designed after a 58 LP with low turn windings. String changes are incredibly fast and this machine stays in tune forever.

I'm by no means a PRS expert, but I do know numbers always have meaning. As you posted, 594 is for the 24.594" scale length. 58/15 pickups are PRS' versions of a '58 humbucker, designed in 2015. I love listening to Paul give interviews, even if he does have a few "squirrel" moments 😉

Nope : same stuff : over-expensive for what they are and overrated.
I wouldn't barter any of my 80's/90's Vigier's (2 1984 Arpège-I, one 1987 Arpège-II, two 1991-1993 Passion III-90/10; two 1993 Excalibur) as well as Leduc's (one Masterpiece custom, one U-guitar, two Aliens, one U-bass-5/FL, one Pad-5), Xavier Petit's (one 'San Dimas' and one 'PRS', both made of 100+ years old Honduras mahogany) or Patrice Blanc's (one Stoker) for any PRS, Fender or Gibson.
The only PRS I own is a PRS SE Single Cut Korina because I wanted to give a try to the Limba wood and, hadn't Epiphone been using the 24.75" scale which is too short for me, I'd probably have chosen an Explore RI-57. The PRS-SE SCK went for €250 on the 2nd hand market, OK, for €250, PRS are good guitars if you change the PUs, and actually a good investment since... a SCK now sales for €1000 on the 2nd hand market!!!
I must say that Korean company WMIC did really great job : frankly, it's hard to believe, looking at how the SCK is crafted, that these were sold for only €499 as new!

    • @lespaul6550
      @lespaul6550 2 роки тому +6

Exactly! Their attention to detail and superb craftsmanship puts the big guys to shame. That's what you get when you have the same guitar nerd guiding the company all these years. However much I like my Les Paul, Gibson has been, for a long while, a company. And "managers" are always looking at ways of increasing their end-of-year bonuses, which usually means screwing customers.

@@lespaul6550 : I'm not impressed by the craftmanship, BTW, Paul didn't even bookmatched tables on the 28x $28,000 guitars he allegedly made by himself a few years ago...

While I generally agree with your comment and all of the replies I've got to compare a Sweetwater Sales Engineer to some of the Applications Engineers I've worked with in the past. The term "Sales Engineer" would imply I could call him and request "I need everything for a home recording studio, can you set me up?" If that is the case then yes, the title is accurate, if not then it does kind of sound like the old "Petrolium Transport Engineer" title they used to give young men who pumped gas at the local service station.

Thanks for the interior views. I’ve been looking for that. This is a great guitar, and the F-holes might mislead you to think it’s a traditional guitar, but it’s a all around tone master. As you could have noticed it is not splitting the humbucker. Neck humbucker was 7ish KOhm and activation of the switch would result in over 4KOhm. So not a split but coil tap. Plus they include resistors to balance pot in coil tap mode. They have made it so that pickup keeps some volume when in the coil tap mode. Pretty good solution. I do not feel a need to use coil split on my 594 while even clean pickups are sounding very nice. And those pickups are LT variations meaning not normal 58/15 but vintage low turn versions that are very PAF inspired.

The main difference between a 594 and a custom 22 or other PRS is that where the "594" comes from is the model utilizes a 24.594" scale length, the same vintage scale length used on the original bursts, at least according to Paul. All the other PRS models have their standard 25" scale length.

One of the main differences between a Custom 24 or similar PRS and the 594s is scale length. The scale length on most PRS models is 25", but the 594s are 24.594" (hence "594"). Also, while that tailpiece is really cool (the quick change bit), Ibanez came out with a similar design back in the 70s.

three things to note. When you split the coils, there is almost no drop in volume. The top is thicker so you get much lower distortion than a typical hollow body. Also, the feel of the neck is amazing, really rolled over and comfortable.
