I actually found myself in a similar situation, but it was a little bit the other way around: I have neither a license nor a car, I have played racing games for years, from arcade to simulators, and this dude was sayng i couldn't lap the nordschleife becasue "i didn't have a license so i wouldn't know how to drive a car". i have an H shifetr and clutch on my sim setup, i have a decent understanding of steering, throttle input, ect. I didn't claim I would beat Aytorn Senna on his best, I didn't claim to be a pike's peak engineer, I literally only said that I would be able to lap the Nordschleife (wich plenty of people do almost everyday with no real issues) without crashing. he went on about how "I had no idea about the sensation of speed" (wich I do, I have gone over 150mph in a car as a passenger before) and how i'd shit my pants on the spot. too add to point #1, learning new different things literally keeps your brain fresh. When you're learning something new, your brain is literally rewiring itself and making new neural pathways, but once those initial pathways are set you'll eventually plateau. It's like going to the gym and doing only arms. You'd have strong arms sure but you're missing out on strong legs, core, stamina, flexibility, etc. It's also fun to learn something new, especially once you start getting good at it.

I think a lot of the JDM hype comes from video games and kids do not really understanding just how important comfort is because they think that's what normies go after.

I used to be like this but I think a lot of it is just resentment over the fact that it seems like we will be forced into EVs rather than given the choice. If EVs were genuinely superior than ICE cars then I don't think that this would be as much of an issue as it is now, but the legislation that clearly favors it is pretty upsetting to a lot of younger enthusiasts who want that opportunity to understand what driving a gasoline car feels like.
Additionally, a lot of EV supporters tend to be stereotyped as "anti-car" or "tech bros" when that's not always the case. Current EV trends like the touchscreen stuff and subscriptions put off a lot of people too... it's a complex issue but it's very sad to see what should have been a new genre of car to get excited over ruined by outside forces.

Absolutely right. I would never bungee jump, fly a parachute glider, or jump off a building with a parachute. And those are just a few of the hobbies that are far more dangerous than driving a little fast. Race track speeds are for the track and not the street. On a track most of the really bad things to run into are removed. And even your mom’s econobox will go fast enough to really make a mess of the human body.

Back then I had true passion and attitude, but as I have entered university,, nothing is new and have began to lose motivation.
The problem with growing out of this I think is because for many, we had this hobby as the first hobby or default hobby. At least for me, it was natural. It's like being bilingual for living in a country that's not your parents' origin, with your whole body equipped with two languages. I have a story to tell relating to point 4.
Funny enough, I am exactly 22 now, and I feel like I didn't really live a life before because of my immaturity prior to now. When I was a young teen, I very much got into Tuner culture. Because of the F&F and NFS, my dream car for a number of years was the MK4 Supra. I could ramble your head off about the 2JZ, about how the Supra could beat a Bugatti if you just tuned it to the moon, etc.
As I grew up, I got interested in architecture, specifically Baroque architecture. I liked old European castles, cathedral's, and chruches. Then I got into Art Deco art and architecture (it was prevalent in America in the 20s-50s), and I absolutely fell in love with it. With that, I found my interest in cars changing.
If you gave me the choice between a MK4 Supra with an 800hp 2JZ now, or a 1937 Cord 812 with 175hp (which was a LOT in 1937) then I would take the Cord in a heartbeat. My dream car is a 1949 Cadillac Sedanette; that (other than LS swapping it) I want to keep in retro looking condition.
Long story short, I love really old cars now, and I can't find too many people (especially in my age bracket) who like the same cars I do. Someone in fact told me once, that I need to "Get with the times grandpa." Or that "The cars you like are old enough to be your grandpa." I am a fake car guy supposedly, because the hot rod era has passed us.
I related to this video a lot.

20 y/o here. The good news is, you could probably find your dream car for relatively cheap as long as you know the right guys. With how expensive tuners are, if I had that kind of cash I'd rather just buy an old supercar. A lot of my favorites are obscure enough to still be (relatively) cheap.

Once met a dude my age at a bar. We talked cars & got a convo going. He talked about that he has met some people at meets that claimed they were car guys. His next comment was that "but they're not real car guys tho, I can tell they're just sayin that". He goes on about how he has 7 cars in his fleet. New, old, & neat cars, all that I can respect. I then go on & start bringing up the issues, troubleshooting, & fixes that I have gone through on my car and immediately see him loose interest in the conversation. Part of my mind starts to doubt if this guy i am talking to is even a "real car guy". Might be the elitist part of me coming through my thoughts, but still a funny thought.

Another big thing that wraps some”car guys” up is that a car price determines its value. Just because something cost more or is modified beyond recognition doesn’t mean it’s better. I think a perfect example is cars with legacy that go for less than 5 grand. Or not liking a slightly lower trim when the difference is so small that if you changed to aftermarket wheels, nobody would tell. Especially if you buy less than 500 in parts to replace the “distinguished features”

Vehicles are one of the most expensive hobbies, more than Warhammer 40K. PC hobbies are much cheaper because there's not a lot of parts. There's a handful of parts to a complete PC setup. There's hundreds of parts if you're going all the way. Not every vehicle is worth the investment. As time goes on every year more vehicles become classics. Seeing vehicles cheap can only be found on the side of roads and that's a needle in a haystack because you don't know where they are. You find them randomly.

With point number 4 I do have a slight disagreement, if you are into cars you should at least get to the point of buying a "car guy car" you dont have to take out a loan or spend 70k to get one, i have 9k USD into my trans am and its restored with a new paint job, new interior and rebuilt motor, i did all the work myself, having said that if you like your 2010 VW Passat and dump money into it, still daily drive it and that makes you happy...fine...but in the grand scheme of things its a waste of money and time because its not an enthusiast car it will not hold value nor is it an exciting car in any way, it doesnt mean they arent a car guy nor would i look down on them, but im saying this in the sense of at SOME point you should get something more enthusiast oriented hell go get an EK civic with a manual and a D series for like 5k at least you can have fun with it until you want to spend some money on it
