    In high school I used to play a Berg 105/1 m with a Rico Royal 4. Pulled it out of the old gear drawer a few weeks ago and put on a Vandoren Red 2.5. It still sounds fantastic 45 years later.

    Thanks for the video, there is major flaw with Durga 3 I'm sure you all agree with me, the flaw is that it will empty your pocket, haha. Durga is perfect for me, I want to get rid of all other mpcs I have, I don't dislike the other ones, but Durga is way too good and perfect for me. I tried the Shiva too, it is good if playing with others and it's strength is definitely in the upper registers. I find Durga to be a better all rounder and easier to control. Your review reflects perfectly with the real life experience, thanks Jason.

    Hi Jason Great video. I have tried the DUGRA and did have chipping when I went high. I use a Bert 120/2 and love it but i did notice that the DUGRA did have more projection. I was able to take the DUGRA back (Really liked it and was reluctant to do so) and they are getting me a Gaia 2 and said it would be more to my liking being a bit darker yet edgy. I still like your sound on the Bert but as I said the Theo Wanne seems stronger.

    The Berg is perfect -rich full and not edgy. Tenor sound . The others are tinny and lack depth .

    Thanks for being so thorough. It was also very smart to compare things to your Berg-Larsen since that gives us the best benchmark. I'm going to order a Durga *8.
    Great sound and technique. You are very worthy of that wonderful horn.

    There is a store, Woodsy's Music in Kent, Ohio that keeps a huge stock of mouthpieces and horns, if you ever wanted to go and try a bunch out.

    good video! thank you,
    by the way, it think it will make this comparison better if you put berg larsen 105/2 on the title.
    is it a duck bill?
    a vintage?

    Which Berg were you comparing? They’re very loud and sound good with any style of music other than classical. Maybe you need a smaller tip and chamber.

      Hi Samian Lu The model being shown at 9:58 is not the Durga 3 it is a brighter model called Shiva the Destroyer.

    Nice review.
    I like the Berg. I think you should have given it a little more 🎷 playing & 🔍📢📣🔎 sampling time, but I get it .... the Theo Wanne (Wah-nEE) pieces are the new toys.
    Of the two T.W. pieces, I prefer the way you sounded on the Durga 3. Really versatile.
    🎥 Video Tip: be careful of your bright window back lighting. It can be distracting and you had good content.👍

      I absolutely love the Gaia, the darker of the pack, ...so easy to play, gets a great modern tone, but you can mellow if wanted....never go back...

      All good, man. Just wanted you to know what it was.
      It's a crazy quest (sax set-ups, ...) until you realize you can only do so much and have to love the sound YOU create and appreciate your own tonal pallet. We've all been there. I'm set on tenor. Still not 100% on my alto sound, personally .... the quest continues.

    Berg +1. It’s WAH-nee! Love the Slant Sig for tenor. Love the Gaia2 for alto. The Gaia, Durga, and Shiva tenor I did not like at all. I think Theo is great, but they didn’t work for me.

  • @bsharp6856
    @bsharp6856 5 років тому

    The Berg may sound better than the Durga but the Shiva has it all. Might depend on what music you are playing. If you are playing a jazz style earlier than the mid-60's or maybe smooth jazz, the Berg Larsen might be the way to go. But anything from 50's rockabilly to R&B, Funk, Rock and Blues, the Shiva is the better choice. My Antigua Pro-One horns have a device which keeps the G# from sticking. (disclaimer I play Jumbo Java and Shiva mouthpieces though I prefer the blue ebonite over metal).

    i have a Durga 10 tenor, its a serious growling screamer, tears it up, if you like this you would like the Gaia, that is a serious piece too, a little darker but tears it up too-i would consider them the best i have ever played, in that class, , the thing with theo wanne is every MP sounds differant , some others claim there i a differance but not,, - which did you like better

    • @jasonlloyd33
      @jasonlloyd33  5 років тому +1

      I like the Durga as its more versatile I find. Still screams. I really like the Shiva but its a little harder to control. Its sure can scream though. Thank you for watching the video and happy playing!

      Nate Shiz Do you try different reeds with it? When I switched to the Gaia on tenor , I ended up switching reeds and it helped a lot. What size is or was the piece?

    • @anonymousguy7723
      @anonymousguy7723 5 років тому

      Nate Shiz Wrong again...!! Theo wanne mouthpieces go for money on eBay. When you change your mouthpiece, your supposed to find a reed that will work with it. This is common knowledge that a novice player would know. I personally own 2 of his mouthpieces and I’m extremely satisfied. Before you badmouth a product, do your research , simply ask a real musician, or call up Theo Wanne himself and he would help you...
