The Whippet is a medium-sized dog breed that's becoming increasingly popular among first-time dog owners. These dogs are known for their gentle and affectionate personalities, as well as their athletic and energetic nature. They make great companions for families or individuals who enjoy outdoor activities such as jogging or hiking, but they're also content to cuddle up on the couch and relax with their owners. Whippets are easy to train and generally get along well with other dogs and pets. They have short, smooth coats that are easy to care for and come in a variety of colors.

My kind of dog! Children are annoying.

@@digitalcamaro9708 Oh definitely. People in the comments correct them and that leads to interaction which the UA-cam algorithm loves. Also, whippets are sighthounds, do not get them if you have a small animal at home. They're lovely dogs, but their hunting instincts are very strong so they may not get along with a cat or a rabbit or a smaller dog. Depends on the dog's personality and socialization so ot may be possible
😂😂😂
@idiotically-everything bruh most whippets if any don't go at small dogs. Same with greyhounds. Unless its a chihuahua the size of your palm LOL they are smarter than you think. Plenty of owners have whippets and other small pets around.
“they are incredibly adaptable” whippit with sprinkle bread on his face
Well, you never know when you’re going to need a holder for your bagel, hat or even…sprinkle bread.😳😉😆😆

They do whippets to achieve that speed

Yes. Gentle.

I had a dog like this. I don't know if she was this breed specifically but a similar one at least. She loved to run and chase and could easily jump four feet in the air clearing obstacles. She also loved tug-of-war and even knew how to heard track and hunt despite never being trained for these things. She was really a special dog.
Why are you using past tense :(

I think maybe you should have a sit-down with mine, she’d rather walk leisurely by my side despite always being unleashed on a 22 acre park with people, kids and dogs everywhere. The only two things she runs for are squirrels and her tennis ball but, 20mins in, she’s already herding me back to the gates and home.
You’re right, though. She adores people and other animals (as long as they aren’t rodent-sized). Tesco delivery drivers are her favourite people these days because they fawn over her while she trots around out front gleefully aware of their adoration, and her two cat siblings who both love to canoodle with her constantly.
I got so lucky with my little whipperoo, she’s the sweetest little slice of pie and an absolute dream. 💜
Yeah, they don’t need much exercise, this video is quite misinformed.
"They are gentle and patient with children" proceeds to knock one over like a bowling pin
As a whippet owner…this is the most accurate representation I’ve ever seen 😂
They are gentle and friendly towards children
Dog: *never*
Energetic for short periods of time. Then they just sleep and cuddle
As funny as the contrast is between saying how good a pet is and showing them misbehaving, I think it helps highlight that dogs are their own creatures that need proper training and discipline in order to help their best traits shine
My brother has one, its adorable af...and one day he might even discover that he got knees and stop hopping like a tiny deer
I have a female Jack Russell mix, and one of her friends is a whippet! They both love to RUN!!! Omg! My dog taught her friend how to dig!

Mine is part whippet and we adore her and love filming her speed
As a whippet owner I can agree with everything said here there r the cutest dogs
They're actually coach potatoes when at home. Very chilled at home and the most fun and playful when on a walk.
My first dog was a whippet and she was a wonderful dog!! I'd consider getting another one if I move into a house with a big yard for him/her to run around in!!
Him: They are patient, and gentle with children.
The Whippet in question: DISRESPECT YOUR SURROUNDINGS!
I own a blue whippet, blue whippets are prone to skin conditions due to breeding. They also don’t need that much exercise as they usually expend more energy in short burst and like their sleep 😋
We had a whippit and lab mix. All she did was run around. She loved my son and never left his side
My dad bred whippets. Apparently the one when I was a baby would let me teeth on his ears and tail and just walk away when I got too much. This was a very long time ago, but I’ve adored the breeds since. They’re super sweet, gentle and rather calm minus the zoomies.
Middle of the sighthound sizes, bigger than Italians but smaller than greyhound.
Not extremely bright, and like horses, if they trip, it can be bad news
The best dogs ever!!!
The dog at 0:33 looks exactly like my whippet
I almost bought a whippet puppy one time. The breeder was a very nice lady and she let me take the puppy home to show my husband. We had gone to a dog show together, and on the way back whippet slept in my lap and was very sweet calm. I thought it might be a good fit for our family until I got it home and it literally ran up the wall to the Ceiling! I took the puppy back to the breeder and thanked her for the opportunity to show it to my husband but we both agreed that the energy level of the breed was not something we could live with. She was very gracious about it and had no problem selling the beautiful little dog to someone who is prepared to live with that kind of insane energy. 😂
Lol all puppies have a lot of energy, whippets are extremely lazy and laid back once you get past the puppy stage. Mine sleeps most of the day. They are probably the most lazy dogs you could get.
I miss mine❤
“They are gentle and patient with children”

That particular run, with the toilet paper in his mouth... is different to the regular whippet trot... and my whippet 100% has the same 'I've stolen the toilet paper roll' run
Whippet good 👍

I have two whippets. Did have 3.until my boy flash died. They are the best dogs with people and children and small animals
I grew up with a Whippet named Racetrack. He was a great dog and did all sorts of goofy things.
After hearing about these dogs whippets, n their good with children n with other breed of dogs, that’s fantastic I would like to get one but that’s no good for me.
“They have lots of energy”
My whippet proceeds to sleep 24/7
Having had two whippet mixes in my life, I can tell you that these dogs can and often do suffer from anxiety. Sometimes its more general, often times it is separation. They are high energy and intelligent (which can compound the anxiety issues), so if you can’t commit to letting them sprint like mad, or taking them on multiple long walks with a leash, this is probably not the dog for you. That said, they do tend to be very gentle and affection dogs. One of mine was an absolute cuddle monster once he was tired from his walk. They also tend to be very sensitive, so if you’re upset or having a bad day, it can stress them out. I didn’t find them to be particularly stubborn, so basic training was relatively easy, but because they are hounds, fancy training probably won’t go very far unless you’re very consistent.
All in all, whippets are great dogs. Just be aware that they Need exercise and a lot of it.
That’s not true whippets don’t need a lot of exercise they are very lazy. Perhaps yours being a mix was the issue. Pure bred whippets need an hour a day max , a good sprint and they are happy to laze around for the rest of the day. They are sensitive though and love cuddles.
That’s basically any sight hound in general which the Whippet falls under because they are basically miniature Greyhounds. Sight Hounds are very high strong
I have a whippet and it is 90% alike to what it says
yes.
Plenty of excercise (30 minutes sprint a day followed by 18 hours sleep lol)
Whippets are one of the most dynamic and endearing drugs out there
Yep, I can see that they have a lot of energy 😊😂
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ true story🎉
"Let me do it for you"
I have a Whippet, he's a little shit and chews everything but I love him
Peach and Cermet act more like these dogs than greyhounds 😭
They are basically a slow greyhound
"Gentle," as the next clips show a kid getting decked
"There okay in apartment" *3 seconds later showing them running on a beach* "But they need plenty of exercise"
awww!! Got a Italian greyhound me.
This is amazing!!
About the “bred to chase” this is why I hate that racing dogs is still a thing.
I’ve had a whippet since I was a kid; and the saddest thing to me is when dogs like greyhounds or whippets are put up for adoption because they are “retired” racing dogs, which btw they usually retire due to not being able to run from issues in their muscles/bones, so it’s depressing to see.
They are sweet ass dogs though! My oldest dog from my family is 11, and he’s still kicking and running around- I love when they do run-
AAM SPEEEED!
Must have paused this one 10 times. So many good shots and stills. Well done! 😉👍🏻🙏
I’ve never had a whippet but I had a whippet mix, she was named dory, my parents rescued her from a shelter when she was a senior dog, I had her for my entire life, sadly she’s passed on… she had kidney failure and the vets couldn’t do anything about it, she was suffering and in pain, we put her down, we couldn’t do anything to save her and she wouldn’t have lived much longer anyway… we didn’t want her to keep suffering, she was a amazing loving dog and I miss her :( she lived to probably 17 years
I have a pair of them
Ah, the naked borzoi
Whippets are turbo charged for 30 mins max, then they like to cuddle for the next 23.5 hours.
I own a whippet and they do not need a lot of exercise
How long should the walks be and how often do they need to run free? :)
They do, if they dont get enough exercise they can get depressed and/or get destructive, as of almost any other dog
They don't need a ton of exercise but allowing then to do Zoomies for 20mins twice a day would be a minimum, I would say. They are endearing dogs. ❤
I have a whippet he’s very fast
no way?
“They are gentle with children” *dog proceeds to yeet child*
Such a good boy
Very gentle
Preceds to tackle the child
Sounds like my dog, who is a Jack russell
The separation anxiety is a feature. So is the destructive phase. And the food stealing. You will never be alone in bed. Be it -30C or +30C outside.
I see videos of all these lovely dog breeds and curse the genetics that made me allergic to fur. I visited a friend who had just bought a beautiful Sheltie puppy, it wasnt in the front room with us, but 5 minutes into the visit, I was having an asthma attack. It's a shame because I love animals, especially dogs.
You will never look back ❤❤❤
It’s a petite greyhound

Ah yes, starting out with a high energy dog... Please don't unless you do your homework before getting it, train it well and be sure to have a lot of time 😅 I've seen it go wrong to many times in various ways. Kind regards, a dog trainer
with no malicious intent, what dog breed would you recommend for a first time dog owner? im thinking of getting a dog in 2-3 years, when my finances are stable enough for medical bills that may arise, and i have lookad at a lot of dog breeds but for each one there are people saying that they are tricky! I had thought of getting a great dane or whippet (i do hike alot) but I would like to know what a dog trainer thinks!
@@Bagirauwu A dog with low drive, in all hunting breeds there are dogs varying from very high to low drive because they vary in character. So there could be a suited whippet out there for a first time owner. But a dog that is bred to work on it's own and chase after things is much harder to raise than a dog that does not have a lot of drive and is very drawn to it's owner. A mildly mannered Australian Shepherd would be an example of a dog that is bred to work, but there are plenty of breeders around the world that focus on breeding house mates instead of workers so to speak. You still need plenty of time to exercise and in the ideal situation have them do something like flyball, agility or search work regularly. But they want to be with you so they focus on you more easily, which makes raising the dog much easier. There are different sizes, mostly 20-30kg here in The Netherlands. Great danes tend to be pretty sensitive/insecure and have many health risks, so there is more than 1 reason why I would not recommend the breed. A Golden Retriever is a hunting breed, but there are plenty of non working lines so also make a good first time dog. Both an Aussie and a Golden can easily adjust to children and all kinds of things (when socialized properly to the things they will face later on), only with the Shepherd there is a bit of a higher risk they would want to chase kids or sheep. In most situations only if they get little exercise and get bored out of their minds though 🙂 edit: whatever breed you end up picking, looking for a good breeder that recognizes the different characters in their litters is worth a lot. A middle of the pack dog is what you want. Cesar Milan would back me up on that last one, has mentioned in videos 😄
Tim you can’t be a good dog trainer whippets are not high energy they are extremely lazy. They need an hour of exercise a day and then sleep most of the day! My niece has a Collie now that’s what you call high energy. Need loads of walking and training and stimulation.
Whippets and greyhounds are about the easiest dog to manage.
@@xits.random-ajx8840 one with the experience to back it up, not every dog is the same of course. Yes bravo good boy, a Collie is a very hard breed, but a sight hunter can have it's own hardships
Whippet real good!
If you want to by a whippet be prepared to say goodbye to your own bed
Reminds me of Santos L Halper
As a whippet owner and someone who's very familiar with the breed... No, they are NOT a great first time dog. Sight hounds have a higher than average chance of separation anxiety and other anxieties. They're more fragile than other dogs. They're also pretty independent and not great with obedience. They also need a safe place run and get rid of energy.
❤❤❤❤
I'd never be able to handle that much energy in a dog 😮
They can actually be really laid back, but they, like most dogs, need regular walks or the chance to burn of energy by active play. Keep throwing a ball for them and you can easily tire them out.
They sleep for long periods of time ,bark very little (some don't bark at all), aren't prone to jumping up at or snapping at people they don't really know like some dogs are.
There are many more difficult dog breeds than whippets to own ❤
I’m gonna whippet
