I agree, just type on youtube search bar about 'noir short film' and see how many amateur filmmakers are appealed by the genre and are doing it themselves
Just a couple things to add: 1. The first Film Noir is actually considered to be be 'Stranger on the Third Floor' from 1940...The last is debatable as well, likely 'Odds against Tomorrow' from 1959. Also on Maltese Falcon slyly portraying Joel Cairo as Gay, watch how he handles the cane he holds and nearly inserts in his mouth as he first talks to Sam Spade. It's no accident....
Joan Crawford in "Mildred Pierce," Charlton Heston in "Touch of Evil," Simon Oakland in "Psycho," Fred MacMurray and Barbara Stanwyck in "Double Indemnity," Gloria Graham in "The Big Heat," Dick Powell in "Murder, My Sweet," and, of course, "The Maltese Falcon." The chanting faces clip is from "Murder, My Sweet." I assumed you meant the older noirs. If I missed any, I'm sure someone will notice.
There a Film Noir version of Logan now and a Fan Made Film Noir version of Batman 1989, wonder what Spider-Man Movie would make a good Film Noir (and I am familiar with the comics)
Currently writing an essay for my college with the question "A detailed analysis of the genre/style conventions of noir cinema with specific reference to the “Maltese Falcon” trailer and the “Double Indemnity” Trailer." and you made good points with references and it could be really useful to me, i would source and site the video but my tutor doesn't allow any like user made content
Trying to find the name of the film with the giant face in front of a person and the film where the man is opening a. Bunch of doors in some ethereal hallway.
I agree that clips isn't really that rude. The way he's kinda rude throughout the film is more of a very subtle patronization. I didn't really want to devote that much time to explaining the idea so I just through that clip in.
Guys your history review of noir was great! I subbed. I also enjoyed your analyzes of the movie. I also found this movie to be kind of sexist with the woman for being unsuspected of doing horrible things. You know I just recently made a review of this one and I don't know if you guys would be interested to check it out and see what you guys think? Again good review. See ya! ;)

Nice essay, but too bad the narration used words that they don't know how to pronounce...I'm guessing that they found them in a book somewhere and copied them to make themselves sound more erudite.
@@MrPhucktard I see those now, yes. You're right that those are mispronounce (except paranoia sounds ok to me). But those examples come from direct quotes, names, or are just simple mistakes. We didn't pick those words to sound "erudite".
Aaand…here you have an essay on why modern Hollywood is falling. The “problematic gender roles” of The Maltese Falcon, a film none of these brainwashed “modern” toads could even shine the shoes of.
Thank you, I majored in film and this was my favorite genre.
Thank you!
It’s mine as well.
The Film Noir movement is far from overlooked.
Yeah, I was surprised at that too.

Thank you!
This is GREAT! ❤️
So helpful!
Thank you for this spot-on essay.
This was actually really nice, great video!
Thank you! I appreciate it!
This was a great analysis
I chosed to make a presentation about film noir in cinema history class, and this video helped me bring it the final touch. Excellent work !
Thanks so much! I hope it all went well!
Great discourse on a great movie & genre .
Bravo.
Thank You!!!
Thank you!
I kept thinking that the falcon would be real all along - the knife just didn’t cut through it

Thank you for insight, man!
may be he was hungry?
The novel is a 1930 book
Could you possibly put a list of the films used in this video? I’m trying to find out which film had the chanting faces on the wall, in the video.

5 stars for a well done and extremely interesting essay.

The maltese falcon is the best detective movie ever made. Humphrey bogart nailed the character of Sam spade. He owned it then and he owns it now.
Is there any chance you have the script for this?
Hmm, possibly. I'd have to go digging through my files, but I might still have it. Why do you ask?

Having everyone in the gray area makes it hard to root for any character though.
No more movies like the thirties and the forties.... That's too bad !!!

Murder, My Sweet (1944) with Dick Powell & Claire Trevor.
Absolutely the best explanation and overview of film noir. Thank you man.
Studying up my film noir for #TheBATMAN2021
No problem. Thank you!
This is a very good analasys.
Thank you very much. I'm glad you liked it!
2:39 what movie is that ?
Touch of Evil
How was Sam rude to his Secretary?

It was an overreach for sure.
That is b.s. I loved being called Honey and Sweetheart.
Please stop calling it "nouur". And "monosyllobuc". Please. Thanks
It's great. But it's got nothing to do with the actual movie
"monosyllabolic" Hmmm...
There is also Marvel Noir now

You trying way to hard
Bullshit These guys have overthought what Film noir is- Its dark black and white films from the 40s and that is it
Thanks, the third grade perspective was missing, thanks for filling that void.

Ruined by that feminist. Lousy video.
