This is my 11th year in corporate at senior engineer level. During my teens, i was a creative person who used to edit videos, trying out different techniques with lg slider 2 mp camera phone in different lighting shots across different time in a day but now except for money, I don’t have any motivation left to do work, constant innovation & deliverables is just eating away my personal time. My dad is a mechanical supervisor & just works for 8-10 hours & spends rest of the day going out, hanging with his buddies, discussing things & no tht of work in personal time. I really hate this career where you’re under constant pressure/ comparison with peers to deliver more & more, but no option i have got except slog till my old age. I may get all materialistic joy but on expense of my personal time. Im preparing myself to get into film making, hope one day i can make it.

Until 6 years in IT I was jealous of my friends who worked low skill jobs in gulf but made more money than me. Believe me, I was the star performer in my team. My whole team was dependent on me. Yet I was paid peanuts. I'm only making decent money after 10 years. Inflation is way off the roof now. I don't even know if my current income is decent or not. I'm in my early 30s now. All I'm thinking of now is early retirement which I know isn't possible.

@Anand, Thanks for this crisp and to the point advise.
Honestly , I like the technical part which is at the core but don't like the whole Ecosystem of work as you mentioned. I'm 40 worked for than 17 years now in the Network and Security and finally decided to take some steps since I was not happy with the ecosystem and superficial things in it. I want to move out of the rat race and have started working on it recently like pursuing hobbies and moving to home town to get out of the daily vicious cycle. Next action is to either change the ecosystem or exit the organisation and do something else which I am trying to explore. Happiness and peace of mind is crucial for me now at this stage of life and for bear future as well. I believe job is just a part of your life and there is more to life then regular shift IT job. Happiness and anxiety free mind is so necessary for a healthy life.
Although everyone's situation is different but the fundamentals needs to be prioritized.

The office kills your enthusiasm. You have to deattach and find the passion that led you there. If it was there.
Without some inherent liking for the thing you are doing, it’s quite difficult.
I was super passionate about software development; to a point where I thought sleep food are all vestigial things. And after being in IT industry, I just lost it. So confused and felt so wronged, lost my motivation.
And then slowly I started building side projects related to office work, focussing on the hardware, something I felt my calling towards, and it gives me comfort

Years back I was working in a carton printing industry, but off duty developed my computer systems and started doing statistical job work for college students with help of my wife in order to pay off loan asap. Than unexpectedly the company caught fire and all of us from chairman to doorman came on the streets jobless. Here the alternate source of income helped a lot in this unexpected situation.

This is aptly related to my situation. It’s been 9 years into IT field. Initial years, I have the thirst to learn coding, new updates and implementing them, look for more salary. Then understanding the corporate things and the way they use our hard work and they give us minimal hikes.. As years pass by, we have the experience but the salary won’t increase as needs increases. I become lethargic and loosing interest in job. Apart from doing work, remaining time I think about starting some manufacturing companies. Searching internet to find which is best to start with…

I have never faced any problem regarding coding or project wise... Have always been a good performer in all my projects... But to be honest I don't enjoy coding and neither have that kind of appetite to learn a new language every now and then... The work from home concept which seemed to a boon and helped to save a lot of time and money, is now turning out to be the opposite coz I like working with other people... Really worried about what will happen in my late 30s and 40s... Never liked the corporate ecosystem but can't leave due to monetary obligations...

99% of Employers won't allow 99.99% of employees to feel Even the slight taste of job satisfaction. In fact, most employers and higher officials are well trained to extract the blood of most of the employees and finally feel them dis satisfied or even guilty, for just working hard and sincere for 20+ years. 1% of employees are lucky for feeling job satisfaction. This is how the system is working irrespective of the filed all over the world. 🌺Understanding this as early as possible and making firm resolution for the Life time ..not to work for making others rich... And leading a very simple lifestyle are the secret of happy, peaceful and satisfied, meaningful lifestyle. Change must be ultimate, whole, immediate and to the fullest and not the other way. We are not just money making machines something more valuable than that. It's my humble opinion. Thanks and all the best.

I felt the same way and quit my IT job a year before. Today all my savings are finished. I am preparing for GMAT to pursue PhD. Prior to this I tried recruitment start-up which failed. PhD was a backup plan. Once I will get admission and my stipend will start, my new income will start. Takeaway, exploring something is more difficult than going to your boring job tomorrow. Don't do it if it's extremely necessary. Everything is boring once you reach a certain level in that field and after that push factor only helps. Your home loan and family responsibilities are good sometimes which pushes you in morning to go to office. I don't have any loan or family, I am still exploring, it's difficult and painful.

However sometimes I feel what is next for me, transitioning to a lead position whereas I have to guide less experienced people, I feel I cannot do it as I am more of like doing execution after order from my superiors. At the moment, I am able to buy a couple of pots and try sowing some seeds..just to keep myself near to nature because, I am intrigued when I find the sapling from seed.. but, definitely unsure how it can help me financially.

we should not live for the money. everything should be for free. and in order to do that we should share everything willfully. I always advocate that and it's just a matter of will. I hope you look into it. our lives will be like heaven, like no more wars, basics are for free. innovation starts on a huge scale. compassion. it's just miracles will happen.

@@ashirbadbohidar6569 bro try to focus on your own business I am not talking about big buisness, you can start with small Buisness, you can try to start with food industry which has great potential in future because you are 32 if we have 2 year gap in IT, mostly companies doesn't prefer it

Yes you can. I have also changed from bpo to service desk then cyber security. You have to learn it in the same company. Tell your manager that you will sit next to the team and learn no matter how long it takes. But don’t going much thing there. After few months just update your resume saying you have hands on experience in data science. Start giving interviews. Soon you will be placed in this profile. Don’t think much take that opportunity. Learn it by work in there. Trust me I did the same

Very difficult, there are fresh grads with great data scientist skills. Hard to shift domain after 10+ experience
