    In today's video, I show you how to edge paint business cards. The process is really simple and can really make a good first impression with potential clients / employers. If you have any questions, leave a comment down below or email me at SymmetryTutroials@gmail.com
    --
    Things you will need:
    ● Business cards: us.moo.com/
    The cards in the video were "luxe" cards which are 3x thicker than normal business cards.
    ● Clamps: goo.gl/CQOEGE
    I used "c-clamps" for the video, but any type of clamp should work.
    ● Ironlak Spray paint: www.ironlak.com/ or fifthelementonl...
    This spray paint is a little high-end, so you can try to find cheaper paint somewhere else.

    You can do more cards at a time, but only work one edge at a time. You are spraying too heavy. Give it a very light coat to seal the edges. Then apply a few light coats in succession to achieve your final coat. Then when you break then you will not have so many bleeds, none at a matter of fact. The pressure from the c-clamps needs to be as tight as you can manage. And go with a lacquer or enamel. The acrylic drys slowly and has time to soak through. I'm not trying be a smart-ass, I do this for a living. Nice design on the cards.

    I observed that the cards which were in middle came out perfect .. so we can use few (waste) cardboard rectangles of the same length of the business card on the both sides. I guess it will save the printed cards. I have to try it. Thank you for the tutorial :)

    Awesome tutorial! I wonder if priming the cards with a clear/frost paint would help with the color bleeding in between the cards?

    • @SamTochelliDzn
      @SamTochelliDzn 10 років тому

      Right, but there are different layouts you can choose on the Moo site. Some being text only, images and text, and just images. I was curious which setup you used for your cards.

    Forgive me if you've answered this already, but couldn't one simply run a marker over the edges?

    • @ryan_duffy
      @ryan_duffy  8 років тому +3

      Yes, you could certainly do that. But since most markers are water-base, the color will most likely absorb into the paper and dull out a bit. With spray paint, there are many colors to chose from that won't be absorbed by the paper and not fade over time.
      But if you wanted an even cheaper alternative and you wanted to do that - then you could certainly do that.

    So out of a 100 cards how many did you lose to bad bleeds? 20? If so, that's not a very good ratio. Especially if you're dealing with cards that are $1.00 or more a card.

    • @ryan_duffy
      @ryan_duffy  9 років тому +3

      Jay Holtslander it was more like, 6-10. Once I nailed the technique, everything was good. Also, Money wasn't a factor really. And they paid for themselves quickly anyways.

    If you jog the stack of cards with the boards against a flat surface like another board, before you put the clamps on, they will line up perfectly.
    You'll NEVER get a stack of paper to line up smoothly trying to align them with your hands.
    Take the stack, and tap one short edge against a board, and then rotate it and tap one long side against the board, and then put the clamps on.
    You're approaching this like an "art project", not a "production multiples" job. Think like a factory worker, not an artist, and the job will become MUCH easier.

      Garcia Graphics the bottle itself cost me $4.99+ tax (gyazo.com/31ad6bfb3023f224cbacaa005f7df7bd) but the shipping cost me like $6-$8 since it was coming from overseas. Now, I know I probably could have gotten it cheaper, but at the time I couldn't find a dealer / store that had the color I needed.

    would you spray paint your car? it's just wrong, you ruin a ton of cards, the look is awful, spray paint is harmful, as a 3rd generation printer I have never seen anything like this before . printing is a craft.

    • @ryan_duffy
      @ryan_duffy  8 років тому +1

      - Plenty of people spray paint their car, it's called plastic-dip
      - I didn't ruin any cards, it saved me hundreds of dollars and all I got was good feedback + nobody would know the difference.
      - Also, as a business associate / owner - I wouldn't recommend calling people out like this to get business - Not really a good move. Also, if your are a 3rd generation printer and you take pride in your work; your website/company name does not reflect that at all. ( weissprinters ??? ) I'm still laughing!

    • @ryan_duffy
      @ryan_duffy  8 років тому

      Larry Weiss not really, I think 50,000 other people might say other wise.
      - the price is expensive to have done
      - from past personal experience, spray painting them actually had better quality then What I was getting from other printers
      - And many people have done it before and it works just fine :)
