- The Third Battle of Panipat took place on 14 January 1761 at Panipat, about 97 km (60 miles) north of Delhi, between a northern expeditionary force of the Maratha Empire and invading forces of the King of Afghanistan, Ahmad Shah Abdali, supported by two Indian allies-the Rohillas Najib-ud-daulah, Afghans of the Doab region and Shuja-ud-Daula-the Nawab of Awadh. Militarily, the battle pitted the artillery and cavalry of the Marathas against the heavy cavalry and mounted artillery (zamburak and jezail) of the Afghans and Rohillas led by Abdali and Najib-ud-Daulah, both ethnic Afghans. The battle is considered one of the largest and most eventful fought in the 18th century, and has perhaps the largest number of fatalities in a single day reported in a classic formation battle between two armies.

पानिपत का वीर स्मारक एक दलित ने बनाया है जिनका नाम "गणपतराव तपाशे" है.

The 3rd Battle of Panipat between the Great Marathas and Afghans altered the power equations in India. Betrayal from close ones and harsh battle weather conditions of northern India led Marathas to loose the battle leading to the downfall of the powerful Maratha Empire. Afghans looted the money, killed the soilders and captured their women & children's as slaves. The Nihang Sikhs attacked the Afghan armies in the midnight to release the women and children's from Afghan captivity. Sikhs have saved the Indian women captured during both Nadir Shah & Ahmad Shah Abdali's time. Years later with the rise of Sikh Empire, the victorious Afghans were defeated by the Sikhs and pushed out of Punjab by Sikh commander in chief Hari Singh Nalwa under the leadership of Maharaja Ranjit Singh taking back the precious jewel of Koh-i-noor back from the Afghans. The 3rd battle of Panipat gave the English East India Company to consolidate it's power in Bengal and South India giving rise to the British power in India. #Panipat
