High to low is G# E B G# F# E a pedal raises B to C# b pedal raises G# strings to A c pedal raises high E to F# and B to C# lkl raises E strings to F lkr lowers E strings to D#
Thanks for the quick reply. I removed 4 strings on one of my 10 strings for my grandson and set it up B E G# E B E G# low to high, with 3 pedals and 2 knees and put the common E9th changes. Works pretty good for a beginner, though some have told me it was a mistake. Thanks again.
where's a good starting point to learn a 6 string pedal steel? i made one and i can't tell if it's any good or not because I come from regular guitar playing and so playing with the bar puts me in a position where everything i play sounds about the same. I've got an A, B, and LKL and LKR. (edit, just as i typed I noticed that Troy Brenningmeyer on youtube has a few videos about learning this exact thing.) but how did you break through to the next level of playing with slide guitars?
I have been playing pedal steel since 1983 so there was no sudden break through. It was just a passion that has taken lots of seat time on the steel. Learn the fundamentals like Troy teaches and Learn one song. That one song will contain the information to map out other songs. Listen to all other steel players and copy licks and clichés. Add them to your gig bag of tricks. They will resurface in your playing. Try to develop good technique from the start and you will see success.
