+Mr. Chase Music It's what happens when you make a 'reboot' of a series that never EVER put a foot wrong and gave us two of the best games ever made(Tricky and 3) that happens to not be /as/ good.
***** I hope its more like SSX3. I like 2012, yeah, but towards the end of the campaign, maps came more about not falling off more than building awesome combos.
@DarkCat500 I think 9 is pretty fair. Multiplayer is a largely accepted part of racing games, and if it still gets a 9 without it then props to SSX....
Having no local multiplayer is fucking abysmal. That is a fucking joke. It's a single player experience. It makes me pissed off that this is a single player experience.
This game was soooo disappointing. It was nothing like the previous SSX games besides the tricks. It lost all of the personality that I loved in SSX games.
Next gen console and PCs needs a great Snowboarding game in general. I'm kind of surprised that Microsoft didn't release their (exclusive game series, Amped, for Xbox One. That game itself will totally give me a reason to get an Xbox One.
My main problem with the game is that, the courses are so vast that it doesn't give u that competitive feel with the other CPU's. I prefer more linear tracks where it has its moments with the huge jumps and stuff. It was always exhlirating to be riding down while the other racers are next to you or bumping into you. This courses are huge and cool as hell but forgettable. SSX 3 will always be the best entry. It felt alot more intense .
I agree, it felt like you were riding the mountain alone after 1 minute. They should've added more CPU racers. I liked to see the other characters ride at my side and punch them haha.
Dear game making people, Please make a new snowboard/free ski that is more like Skate and less like Tony Hawk. Something a little more pure. The key would be very large open maps where you can interact with all sort of different parts of the map. Not a bunch of rails and flashing lights though, just some tree branches, little cabins, and benches or some stuff like that to work with. I don't know, maybe that's why I say free ski so its more reasonable for people to mess around on areas they like by just skiing back up he hill (you should make that really easy to do btw). There should be online multiplayer where your friends are there with you in the session. Then you can set up crazy jumps and tricks with all your buddies and make your way down huge mountains and stuff all together. it would be dope. Slopestyle with your friends on the same map would be sweet. Please someone make it happen. thanks
I've had the game dice it came out. It has released an update that has a somewhat true multiplayer that's really decent for making credits. If you get the DLC, you get Mount Eddie which I think is the biggest mountain in the game that has huge jumps and clusterfucks of grinds. That DLC also comes with Retro versions of Moby, Eddie, Mac, Kaori, Elise, Psymon, and Zoe. Moby, Eddie, Kaori, Elise, and Zoe all have their SSX Tricky skins. Mac and Psymon have their SSX 3 skins. So much nostalgia. The DLC also comes with three tracks from John Morgan all from previous games (Top Bomb, Gin and Sin, and Darkpath). If the review was made today, it would probably be a 9.5 at least.
@@XYZ-ky2ok haha, there's an SSX 3 HD remaster on Xbox One now and SuperNatural Game Studios are rumoured to be making a spiritual successor to SSX 3 specifically (without being titled as SSX or having any legal ties to it). They're also interested in being hired by EA to remaster SSX Tricky.

I don't like this game. Too frustrating and the rewind barely works. I could go on but it was just wasn't that much fun, and really, that's all i care about.
I just got SSX for my birthday, and i wasn't to sure about it, but when i tried the tutorial my head exploded! It was so amazing that i played it all night long. I haven't played the other snowboarding games for the ps2 but this game makes me wanna play all of them. In conclusion i give it a 10.
They pretty much cleaned up every weak part of multiplayer. You can now actually compete with people in real time in 3-2-1 go race and trick it events. Not just compete in brackets. You just bet a certain amount before each event and winner takes all. EA also added free ride like in SSX 3. They added weather changes for certain tracks. If you liked past SSX's, then I say get it.
This game is AWEFUL I wanted to love it but the controls are horrible, the levels are just plain stupid, the graphics are not that good, and characters have NO personality whats so ever. They look pissed off no emotion and you can barely hear what their saying as they go down the mountain. It is very difficult to play and I bought a million points hoping to buy my way to make the controls better. Forget it worst game I ever played so frustrating I returned in a week!
I've been an SSX fan since 3 came out. I've played every single one and if you look at the game critically like this amazing reviewer did. This is the best SSX game out there. You can all say 3 but this honestly wipes the floor with it
Donovan Douglas Dude everybody haves their own distinct TRICKY move and really no need for you to complain about the game because it shows that EA still acknowledges the series's experience. Plus it's a reboot built from the ground up so do you really expect them to make a exact copy of the originals?
+Megaman231122 1) Mac and Griffs special are literally the same. There is legit no difference to there specials. 2) Exactly. That's why it's boring playing characters that all do the same moves. 3)Having thing for Ridernet just to break records is stupid.. Why have a special feature to break somebody's record? It should be just there as an feature not something that's been in the series since 2000 4) the drops were all boring and not memorable to a point where I couldn't even search a track on UA-cam besides "ssx gameplay ps3" 5) The new characters are boring and forgettable. 6) the veterans characters are just as boring as they were in Blur and On Tour. Hardly verbal and ugly by design (Mac, Mobby, Zoe, Psymon) Elise and Griff are the only ones whom aged well and looked good as characters. 7) controls are okay besides having that damn rewind mechanic. I just got this game on Xbox LIVE and I have to say this: the wingsuit is hard as HELL to control! it's always veering off in random directions for me and it keeps smashing me into a fucking wall!
Best game I picked up last year. I picked it up again last night and it's still fresh. I went from the Himalayas to Siberia to the Rockies, racing, tricking and surviving against the rest of the world, all to my own custom-built soundtrack. Can you get that experience anywhere else?! There ain't nothing like it.
I want to like this game. I really do. But I just couldn't get into it. It just felt so different to me. Granted, that's most likely because I've only ever player SSX Tricky apart from this one, but I still wish I could enjoy playing this game.
I just bought this the other day for ps3 and had a bash earlier. Bit of a learning curve but immensely enjoyable nonetheless and I can see many hours being wasted trying to pull off insane trick combos :) Only other snowboarding game I ever got into was 1080 on the 64 and this is like that..on drugs lol
+jawztv same here, I used to play 1080 only and I sometimes still do. personally, I love how 'unspectacular' and honest 1080 is but learned to enjoy this craziness in ssx after a while
milanwraith It wasn't anything special but it was fun, and the hard modes are insane on it. I suppose cool boarders was another series I enjoyed somewhat, although it was a bit too arcadey for me.
You can at least do the take turns part where you choose an event, and see if you can get the fastest time or the most score than your local opponent and compare to see who wins.
I was looking forward to this before it came out, but then i heard the shitty fucking dumbstep in this game and decided not to even touch it. dumbstep ruins everything it touches.
I honestly think that the new ssx is worse then most of the older ssx games. ssx on tour had a large open world, a better soundtrack, unique environments, the attitude or a high school doodler's notebook (which was awesome), and focused on outrageous gameplay than challenge. I'd take being able to go from grind to grind fifty times for 2 miles over trying to beat a high score any day. BRING BACK THE OLD SSX GAMES, SSX REMASTERED, ALL FOUR ORIGINAL GAMES WITH BETTER GRAPHICS AND MULIPLAYER
Mario and friends as exclusives for Gamecube's SSX:On Tour is true, but the first ever SSX was only released on the PS2. Not to mention how each game's controls are centered around the DualShcok 2.

My only gripe about this was the limited multiplayer but after EA actually listened (unlike some other developers) to the community and added all the really nice patches and updates, I was VERY satisfied. A realistic snowboarding game would be awesome but you're right: most people who enjoy this game don't ride in real life. Realism has it's place but games tend to be more about fantasy and the intangible in my opinion. It would be great to see how a truly realistic snowboarding game would look.
0:19 - 0:25 ssx tricky is not the Original SSX The Original SSX is SSX :P "have heard to many say that tricky is the original for to long" Over all.. Great Review :D that was my only complaint :))
Cons of the game: The soundtrack (Guess its a matter of individual music tastes, but I hated it, used my own playlists), The fact that the dubstep cuts in once you get Super Uber, the rewinding feature is annoying because you have to rewind real far unless you want your guy to jump by himself and go straight off the cliff again, the fact you can die in this one unlike SSX 3, the jumps that lead you into cave ceilings or death pits, (cont.)
When they make it on PC they go beyond certain requirements, when they make it specifically for console they can make a game that they know everyone will be playing using the same machine, as well as focus in on a nice big screen 1080p picture
You know, I appreciate that they try to keep the feel of the old SSX tricky, and this game is pretty fun. But... You know, the old SSX games didn't have a cliff on every single damn level. When I think of SSX tricky, I think of smooth sailing, when I think of the new SSX, all I can think of is just constantly falling off cliffs and restarting...
1080 avalanche is another snowboard game that needs to come back. Seriously go and play that game if you have not. it is no SSx but still a damn good snowboard game.
From description: Release Date: February 28, 2012 Exclusively on: PlayStation 3 Genre: Extreme Sports Publisher: Electronic Arts Developer: EA Canada E for Everyone There is no mention of Fuji.
If they'd put split screen in there, the graphics would be decreased in quality and there would be so much lag and it would receive critisisms. the reason for this is not enough memory on ps3 or 360 to keep the Split-Screen option strong.
i was never a leaderboard guy, but last night, i said "i gotta beat his score" for the first time ever. so i guess ssx has really changed me very quickly.
@FFIIInerd I disagree. You can easily find new rivals on forums, the ssx site and fansites. And the way online works is so much more convenient. If I wanted to race my friends we'd have to find times that suited everyone at once. With the ridernet system we can go against eachother at any time that's comfortable.
We want a new-gen SSX game!!!!
Yessss

A realistic snowboarding game would be awesome but you're right: most people who enjoy this game don't ride in real life. Realism has it's place but games tend to be more about fantasy and the intangible in my opinion. It would be great to see how a truly realistic snowboarding game would look.
I loved SSX 3 on the PS2. Good times.
Imagine SSX having 100 player races, that would be awesome
The online is awsome for me. I love setting a high score that no one could beat and then cashing in millions of credits, makes me feel like a king.
The music on this is just so good. It's the thing that got me interested in this game.

ssx tricky is not the Original SSX
The Original SSX is SSX :P "have heard to many say that tricky is the original for to long"
Over all.. Great Review :D that was my only complaint :))
Bring SSX to PS5 And Xbox series X It would look amazing on next-generation consoles . Also they should remaster Tony Hawk American Wasteland as well
Cons of the game: The soundtrack (Guess its a matter of individual music tastes, but I hated it, used my own playlists), The fact that the dubstep cuts in once you get Super Uber, the rewinding feature is annoying because you have to rewind real far unless you want your guy to jump by himself and go straight off the cliff again, the fact you can die in this one unlike SSX 3, the jumps that lead you into cave ceilings or death pits, (cont.)
The SSX games during those times were meant to be played on the PS2.
This game is near perfection. If it had split screen, I'd consider selling all my other games, that's how good it is. 9.5/10 for lack of split screen.
I still play SSX (The original), SSX Tricky, SSX 3 and now this SSX. I grew up playing SSX
1080 avalanche is another snowboard game that needs to come back. Seriously go and play that game if you have not. it is no SSx but still a damn good snowboard game.

There is no mention of Fuji.
If they'd put split screen in there, the graphics would be decreased in quality and there would be so much lag and it would receive critisisms. the reason for this is not enough memory on ps3 or 360 to keep the Split-Screen option strong.
The things I don't like about this game are the maps. They aren't like the old ones. I loved how they made the old ones.
i got shivers while watching this...
Two days in I've owned it... and it is one of the best PS3 games ever! 10/10 for me... 13 million is my top score so far.

i was never a leaderboard guy, but last night, i said "i gotta beat his score" for the first time ever. so i guess ssx has really changed me very quickly.
Ssx on tour is the best ssx hands down
At least it got online head to head multiplayer. That made me happy
If you never get tired of pulling off insane tricks on a snowboard, I'd say give it a shot, i'm sure you'll enjoy it.
@FFIIInerd I disagree. You can easily find new rivals on forums, the ssx site and fansites. And the way online works is so much more convenient. If I wanted to race my friends we'd have to find times that suited everyone at once. With the ridernet system we can go against eachother at any time that's comfortable.
please do either a remake of on tour or a new game because the skiing on SSX on tour has skis in it. and i love it.
@zFreeZed you can choose what music you want to listen to and you can put in your own songs in it
For the record; It's not exclusively for PS3.
No I live in Norway and the taxes are about 45% of the original price of the product in comparison to USa that only has about 7% tax
