We love Leeroy too dang much to see the front end look like a Fourth of July parade float. We love the creative idea, but Leeroy needs to be a bad ass, not a cartoon 🙌🏻

The first time I saw the first rendition of the body I knew it looked like something I'd seen before. The nose is very WS6 trans amesque. Looks good so far, excited to see what ol Leroy can do without fighting all that aerodynamic drag.

There’s a rule for beam tripper. Can only extend 45” forward of the centerline of the front wheel.
I used to spray fiberglass using that same chopper. Only the hoses were connected to a big boom so you could walk 20 to 30' circles. Fiberglass would be at the center, pallet at a time. I'm pretty sure Saint-Gobain made our fiber glass out of Texas. I worked for Baja boats building the Outlaws & others like the Islander. Only we didnt have any respirators, just safety glasses & paint pants. Shop would always have a mist hue in the air. Its the only time in my life my nose has bled. Still enjoyed being a gunner & knocking out 5 to 8 boats a day. People I worked with were the best to be around. I was 20 years old doing that for 10 to 12 hours a day. After I left I was still finding fiber glass years later. Gets everywhere. Thanks for the memory refresher.

Love that you're putting a body on Leroy and that company does amazing work. I'm not real crazy about the nose on their design. It to me is way to pointy. To me it doesn't look like a bald eagle. Please don't hate me for this.

Great video. I worked for the guy(Jay Johnson) that invented the chopper gun for fiberglass. He used it to make a catamaran. He entered into the 1966 Trans-Pontiac Yacht race and won on his first time. He was a very smart man. I had a great learning experience working for him.

That invention was so critical in enabling the production boat boom in the mid 70's. So many of those boats are still on the water today!
I believe it. The inventor was super smart and had many other inventions when I worked for him. He definitely loved boats.

DANG guys,that is awesome getting amongst the process,walking an hour in your Brõthurrs shoes right there,seeing what those blokes go through on a daily basis to build all those drag car bodies,boats and custom parts & what not. How good. Also,where would the channel be right now without every single being thats came seen and been over the years,and for sure the ones that are still present,keep it up guys and girls.
I had NO clue that laying fiberglass could be done with a sprayer. It was incredibly satisfying to watch it spray on and watch it get rolled down. Cool video!
I only knew because my dad did it in the 80s before I was born and he had told me about it. I had never thought about it really, or bothered to look it up. That was fascinating!
Fiberglass fibers give me goosebumps 😂, when I was a kid I played with a roll of that pink panther insulation not knowing any better. Had regrets for days 😂

Georges first flight lasted far longer than mine...mine went almost straight up, stalled, then straight back down, 30 seconds, max...started as a flying wing, ended as a bunch of foam bits lol

Hell yes LS I'm 66 been flying RC for 50 plus years now and I'd say that was damn sure a success ! Hell of a sight better than my solo flight. I turned a nice motorized glider into a dirt drill LOL Don't stop its sickness but one of the best kind to have. Old KY Fan Here
Over the years there isn't a ton I haven't seen, done, or atleast surprised by, but I honestly knew nothing about how fiberglass panels were made and although it definitely isn't something I would want to do especially in Florida heat 🔥, I have a ton of respect for these guys, and kinda mind blown on that sprayer. That thing is awesome how it chops that quick. Thanks for sharing you big giraffe 🦒. 😉

Experienced RC pilot Cleet could see things others can't. As an experienced RC pilot myself, I was literally screaming OH F&^K almost the entire time, it was that hairy! Can anyone say tip stall?!!!

Got to make sure the nose is within the rules for front overhang in the class you are running. There is a limit on how far the nose can be from the front wheel.

Just a tip guys, you can absolutely make panels to create low pressure zones around the areas of high drag. That way Leroy has a “body”, but still looks like an exoskeleton car.
My company 3D scans vehicles and wind tunnel tests them on the computer. It lets you test tons of different panel / body configurations in just a few hours.
George has the dream job. Not long ago he was working a 9-5 and now he’s spending weekends in Colorado with Cleet and HeavyD. Think about all the insane trips he’s been on with Cleet.
Please 🙏 get one modeled off a regular corvette also. I honestly thought the eagle body was just messing with people!! Haha its super cool and good for advertising stuff but a simple corvette fiberglass body would just look so good

Watching George fly was the best few minutes of my day.. that and your reactions to him flying! Just got back into RC planes and getting my son involved too, he's a natural. I used to fly with my Dad back in the 90's before cancer took him, feels real good to be airborne again.
BTW that Carbon cub is savage, it's on my wish list.
I worked in a fiberglass shop for a couple years making moving and car hauler truck ramps, you guys have no idea the mess that shit makes when spraying it. It's hard work prepping the molds and stuff.
Oh Im aware brother if you don't know what to do or how to spray forget it your done I sprayed body kit molds and semi truck parts like hoods

Isn't there a specific front overhang dimension you have to stay within? Same thing the blade accomplishs for the short nosed cars like an early Nova.😊

i would have loved to see leroy with clear body pannels like an RC car. i dont think there is a thermal forming macine big enough for a whole car. but 1 pannel at a time could have worked
The future of prototyping. Went to school for this. Its REALLY powerful. All the big car manufacturers use it to make sure everything is in reach for the driver and easy to use before they start building with real parts.

Need to watch how long the nose is. Most classes and sanctioning bodies have rules about front over hang length from front spindles
Thats why they're adjusting it to be more like a c7 corvette, the model with the beak is a custom model. He said that they're going to re do it with the c7 model diameters.
They discussed wheel base and length in their first meeting. Should be good but still just not feeling this thing.

I build fiberglass Containment Tanks especially for gas and diesel Containment under fuel stations. All the same processes. Very cool watching you learn the trade I've been doing for 8 years!
Ran a chopper gun for a few years building Bayliner boats ... also was a tooler( mold builder) before I grew up an went to chevy an became a technician.... still do hand lay on occasion
People thought it looked like a platypus before?! The platypus has been my favorite animal since I was 5 (yes it made for a lot of awkward conversations in school) and never thought it looked like one. I guess people cant think what it will look like with color and only see the orange and not have any imagination? I hope you go with what you and your team likes the best. When it gets color most of the doubters will like it too. Do it for your team and do it for Dale! and Ed!
The MEKP that's used in that resin is really intense stuff. I worked briefly with a guy who had 20 years of vynl-ester resin work and his eyes looked like 2 big milky saucers.
I work with it daily maintaining and repairing these chop rigs, it’s serious stuff and the amount of people I see in here thinking it’s the same stuff as the 2 part epoxy you get at Walmart that sets in 24-48hrs is insane. This stuff will blind you in seconds if it gets in your eyes.

I used to work at a specialty resin adhesive plant, MEK was my favorite smelling stuff, lol. Toluene is the worst.
We made high performance resins from basic things like sandpaper adhesives, to military and aerospace coatings. It was pretty cool, but some of those chemicals were super dangerous. One of the worst was ammonia, we used 33% and just popping the cork on the bottle would damn near knock you out if weren't opening it in the fume hood. And some chemicals had big skull and crossbones warnings of "This will cause cancer or death if exposed". Not the watered down california "May cause cancer".

I'm glad you're happy with the direction the development of the body is going but the eagle front end looks terrible to me. Hopefully I'm wrong and the final product looks great.
I didn’t mind it in the first rendition but the updated version is waaaaay too eagle faced.
@@Whacintosh It wasn't nearly as exaggerated in the first version so I agree with you there. I'd really prefer a promod-ized c7 style front. The front end in the current version looks like it belongs on a Mardi Gras parade float, not a race car.

Bald Eagle body let’s goooo!!! Leroy is going to be the opposite of a monster truck with a themed body lol. Can’t wait to see him spread his wings and start running some crazy trap speeds and new et’s with the added aerodynamics.
Methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) I used it for years here in California than the state of California bandit saying it's not safe. I'm still alive. It's safe. It is a very universal solvent I used it doing subwoofer repair. It broke down the glue. Nice and didn't leave any damage or staining to the cone. Also works really good on getting contaminants off of paint without damaging the paint if used correctly, especially road tar.
The MEKP we use to build yachts will strip paint in seconds. Will also burn skin in seconds and blind you in seconds. There may be different chemical buildups in the stuff you’re used to lol these chop rigs use some brutal catalyst. Not like the stuff you mix at home and it sets in 24hrs. This stuff reacts hot and quick. An entire hull will be fully cured in 4 hours max and we’re talking 200 gallons of resin lol

I can roll droplets of mercury around in the palm of my bare hand and wake up tomorrow morning to do it again. Doesn't mean it's safe.
@@anthonyboylan9212 That's MEK-P, but in the video the chop guy just said they used MEK. We have no idea what resin they're using, nor what catalyst. But MEK is commonly used as a thinner, so it's possible they're using regular MEK.
@@theKashConnoisseur correct, but this chop rig is most certainly using MEK-P. Those that work with it every day generally just call it MEK, or cat (catalyst). We use many variations of Norox MEKP

I give George a lot of credit. I hit my barn on my first flight. It was the only thing around for a square mile and I managed to crash into it. 😂
That Augmented Reality conversation in the VR goggles was really cool despite the poor quality, those tools are incredible
I knew I would find someone like this in the comments, they are using a very basic application right off of the Quest 3 hardware. With a PC and a link cable or a good Airlink connection, you can have a fully detailed model of a real car in the place of that low quality sketch. Don't underestimate things withought looking further into them.

I've been in fiberglass for 45 years but I never took to chopper gun laminating, too messy for my liking. I still prefer to make patterns and tailor my mat to the part and apply resin with brush or roller then roll out with paddle rollers. Yeah it's slower but also no risk of the catalyst jamming up and getting a no cure situation.
Yeah, I never liked them. Watching them walk into the spray booth, I could feel my skin crawling, and was waiting for the prickling sensation under my collar, as a bit of glass dug into my neck.....

No. You saw similar footage of the same event, filmed by the fiberglass shop, Starr creations, and uploaded a couple weeks ago. After the 16 minute mark is all unique footage.
The point on the rear will create turbulent air causing more drag. There should be a flat spot on the rear like the Shelby Daytona, that allows the air to leave the body with less turbulence.
The cfd model will tell all they need to know.
Fellow RC guy here - some advice given to me "Always be 3 mistakes high". A stunt for you is called a loop and thud. Do a loop just perfectly close enough to the ground that you land. The objective is not to do the thud part. As for completely totaled planes that this stunt might result in, my group refers to them as carcasses.
