  • Populations of fireflies are falling in many parts of the world due to environmental pressure. In Malaysia, one of the world's most popular sites for viewing their nightly light shows is also seeing a population decline. But Malaysia's Forest Research Institute is working with local authorities and communities to try to protect the fireflies. Still photos courtesy Forest Research Institute Malaysia.

We have fireflies here in England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿. They are magical. Help guide me home after long walks sometimes.

I could see them once here in Germany, on a summer afternoon a few of them were flying around on our balcony. Our types tend to glow permanently. It looked very pretty, but only a few. Only once in the 90s. Too heavily industrialized back then already I guess.
