wow thanks for the thermal updates. i'd say you're doing your civic duty and i hope the highway department are taking this seriously loved the videos and narration gylfi
Here's hoping that Scotland has a moderate winter this year. I have friends (ski crazies) who have decided to challenge the Highlands this year. I hope they mind their manners while they are guests in Scotland. Cheers!
Great video as always! Oct 24, 2023: Checked on the quake in Bardabunga. Depth was only 1.8 km. Fossholl at 10 km. But lots of cluster quakes around Bardarbunga and Grindavik. Something is definitely going on! Gylfi, get ready to roll! 👍
Maybe things begin to heat up again for the next eruption perhaps? As ever stay safe my friend and always be prepared hope your drone is much better after it's last mishap fantastic shots as usual Gylfi stay safe from the uk 🇬🇧 to Iceland 🇮🇸
The thermal camera images are amazing. The cars, which should be warm, look cooler than the ground, this says that the ground is very warm. It will be interesting to see how this plays out in the future.
Thanks Gylfi. I fear for the Blue Lagoon area because of the strong earthquakes today. Hopefully it fades away and let this area and Grindavik in peace.
The more I see of your thermal imaging drone, the more I wonder why Iceland's government didn't set up a fleet of drones with IR cameras years ago. Stunning footage! 💪🤗
Greetings from Nevada. Question- Do we have any idea how the highway department would "fix" the roadway with a lava fracture under said roadway? Tricky to say the least. Thanks for the update and waiting for cooler weather to come.
@@JustIcelandic , what is happening with all these large quakes? And is it possible for an eruption? They seem to be around the thermal power station area. Is it possible for an eruption there ?
It might be time for one of the agencies to start monitoring roads more regular by having infrared camera's installed to some of their vehicles, in that way, the monitoring could become more routine and relatively more real-time. Given the weather in Iceland, I guess drone use would be a more ad-hoc tool, perhaps as a follow-up such as you're doing.
I got this footage to a news agency that contacted the road administration and others for more info, and I'm still awaiting the feedback, or going after it my self since this matter is stuck somewhere
Hi Gylfi, I hope you're good. I saw another swarm commence early hours and this after another 4+ quake at Bardarbunga - I thought to myself, I am sure Gylfi mentioned this pattern previously, where a 4+ quake at Bardar, appears to instigate another swarm at Reykjanes, and sure enough you had mentioned this 3 weeks ago (I just checked). I think this pattern occurring more than once cannot be coincidence - I guess it just shows the potential enormity of the volcanic system/s there. I wondered the magma at Reykjanes is unstable that it reacts immediately to the shockwaves, rather than by any other connection (hopefully IMO can map this magma response?) Great work Gylfi
Isn't it always the way. Gylfi posts a video and while he's uploading it there a two earthquakes in Iceland over 4. Near Grindavik and near Bardarbunga. Sorry I can't use the Icelandic characters.
It's just about where the infection takes place, return of co2...so man made earthquakes do happen around there occasionally, but I'm waiting for more news fro there...

Iceland: a very special geological phaenomen, interesting..... but, in winter the steam and fog can be problem for traffic... greets from Romania .... ....
Will be interesting to find out if this is signposting a serious future problem, or just normal heat movements. I guess time will answer this! Meanwhile I note there has been an earthquake swarm near to Grindavik & Blue Lagoon today, hopefully the upcoming eruption will be elsewhere!
Ummmm that's scary! Could there be an eruption there? Would it be like the other three eruptions or would it create ash? If it would that would suck for us living in the capital area. Have you checked out what's going on in Bárðsbunga? There was a 4.9 earthquake there this morning.
it's not fair that now the roads to Grindavik are closed, you can't get your thermal drone up in the area .... you could provide valuable information when they need is the most . I think THEY should be calling YOU!!!
Probably close the road down like they do in other volcanic islands since you can't really safely drive over lava.... At least not yet since the tires would melt and volcanic gases and heat would be bad for the undercarriage. I can't rule out the possibility someone might one day figure out how to make lava proof tires and insulate the Undercarriage from volcanic heat and outgassing, and of course some way to provide fresh air for vehicle occupants to breathe safely. Amusingly enough if those problems were resolved you would actually be able to drive on molten lava in principal because even though its a fluid it's still just as dense as solid rock. Still even if lava proof cars were invented liability concerns would still shut down the road....
@Dragrath1 -Though I was asking Gylfi, your answer is silly!! If I was a consultant for the Icelandic government, I would prepare 2 ferryboat slips to transport their population's vehicles from one city to another, bypassing the affected road!!! Seattle, Washington and Vancouver BC, Canada have done this for decades!!!
Wow! Fascinating video! I loved the thermal imaging! Thank you for sharing this with us.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Interesting and again beautiful footage. Looking forward to the thermal images near Grindavik. It has been rather shaky today there, N of Grindavik.
I need to come back there soon when it's colder, I found a few spots that I would like to look at again
wow
thanks for the thermal updates. i'd say you're doing your civic duty and i hope the highway department are taking this seriously

Thanks a ton and always welcome :)
I always look forward to your videos. Thanks, from Texas!
Awesome! Thank you!
At least this portion of the road will stay ice free…😂❤
Yes we need more such roads 😂
Thank you Gylfi...so...things are hotting up in Iceland🌋...I just hope that all stays well for all of your people...cheers from Scotland 😁

Love the music very appropriate.
Thanks :)
Absolutely fascinating. I always enjoy your videos. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Glad you’re getting experience with the drones thermal sensor. Hopefully, you’ll get an opportunity to use instrument on a new eruption.
I will use it a lot this winter, it's the drones first winter with me :)
it would be cool if he predicts the spot for the next eruption.
Always enjoy your updates, Gylfi.
Thanks a ton :)
Many thanks for posting 👍🏼 ✨
My pleasure
I really like the 'thermal' image inside the 'normal' image (for example, at 45 sec. in). Really shows what is going on!
The best has yet to come :)
This is pure gold Gylfi. The thermal drone is awesome.
Thanks a ton :) it's a fantastic tool :)
Just saw there’s was a 5.1 earthquake at Tungnafellsjökull. Wonder what’s going on there.
where you seen that? not on iceland met yet, but earthquake 3d map showing 5.1 & 5.... bit strange
@@toady..9833 USGS - earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/us7000l63e/executive
IMO has a 4.14 at Bardarbunga. I'm not sure if this is the same one as USGS has as a 5.1. Now IMO has removed the Bardarbunga earthquake!!
@@suehayes2001 just looked got it at 4.7
@@suehayes2001 Now IMO has it at 4.9 and located 5.3 km NE of Bárðarbunga.
The difference since May is pretty obvious. Am I the only one who would feel nervous driving over that stretch of highway?
I think it's perfectly safe :)
What a great video, and lovely clear explanation of your recordings. Thank you so much xxxxx

That's scary being under the road.

Good question! I know of one newspaper waiting for answers from them but this fracture under the road needs to be checked better in my next trip.
I hope there’s nobody living in those two little cottages because they’re sitting right on top the hotspots!
It's just tool sheds or something like that :)
I think the whole country is sitting on a hot spot. 😅
Vá hvað þetta er flott hjá þér og útskýringarnar góðar. Takk fyrir.
Takk kærlega, var að birta myndir frá Sundahnjúkum :)
Would think the icelandic government or some other volcanic instrution would supporrt you for understanding volicanic hotstops. Amazing video
Thank you :)
Good evening Gylfi,
Iceland is still hot.
I’m curious about future developments.

Thank you too!
It's pretty clear that it is indeed getting warmer and more widespread. There may still be surprises, I'm curious about the sequel
Thanks Peter :)
These thermal images are remarkable! BTW, what's shaking? Tectonic or volcanic? 😊
Cant say but looks volcanic
Plans go to Grindavik now after tonight eathquakes?
Need to see how it goes for 1-2 more days, if I don't get the timing right it's costing me 1000km drive and no income while I'm doing the trip

4.9 and it's good to see this here: vafri.is/quake/

Probably close the road down like they do in other volcanic islands since you can't really safely drive over lava....
