Terrific video! I miss my Atari 400, 800, 800XL, 130XE, 520ST and Mega 2 STs as well as my Commodore 64 and 128. What wonderful machines they were!

Just reminded me. Ive got an Atari 800 in the loft. Ive got the 800XL and Atari 520STFM out last year and are both working still. With new PSU's as well. I replaced the caps on the STFM and bought one of those USB power supplies for the 800XL. And there still working great. Next is to try out the 1050 disk drives. Havent tested them yet.

Great to see you back with another video on 8-bit topics! Your channel was one of my inspirations to start doing my own Atari 8-bit videos on programming.

Hey that's great and thanks. I use to program in Action when I was a kid. Looking forward to getting back into that language soon. It was really very powerful and fast.

Great video. I love ATARI. Still have my 800, 600Xl, (2) 800 XL and (2) 65 XE. They are so much fun. Thank you.

My Atari 130XE has a flaky colour chip -- sometimes displays color, and the has noise or glitches in the picture, and then goes to black and white.
Curiously I found this, your video that may help me to understand what is involved in repair.
Thanks again for your detailed explanation and video journal.

A very nice donation with Atari 800 and should be appreciated, but if I was sending a device to be shown on UA-cam, I'd at least clean it up from dust.

I used to have an 800XL then I got a 65XE. I used it to learn to program and to play "Miner 2049er" and "Ollies Follies". Later I bought an Amiga.

We had an Atari 800 in my high school electronics class. That was 1980 thru 1981 (my senior year). It originally had 8k of memory and no disk drive. in 81 the teacher added a 16k module and a disk drive. Now we had a whopping 24k to play with and we could store our programs (wahoo!) :) In those days there were a lot of computer magazines with Basic program listings and we would type them into the computer (mostly games of course). Two of the games we typed in that I remember most were a simple golf game and a sub attack game. I bought an 800 in 1982 and 6 months later bought an 810 disk drive. I still have them today.

I just bought an Atari 800XL. It has a green screen, but lucky for me every IC is in a socket. The RAM is 4864, never seen that. I will be working on getting that machine going. My Atari 520 ST is back up and running after I got a PSU for the floppy drive. Yes, I needed an old Atari 5200 PSU to power it.

This shows how to open it. Do know that there is most probably a sticker on top of the fourth screw with a removing voids warranty message.

Great video. I think you just solved my 130XE looking way too green. Thanks. Also, where can I get a joystick controller like yours? Love it!

Oh dear! Micron Technology ram. You'll be de-soldering those sooner or later.

Quick question, can any Commodore 64 floppy disk drive be used on atari xe computers? I'm guessing the serial cable to sio needs to be modified. I have a 1571 and an excelsior plus disk drive already.

    • @LogicalVue
      @LogicalVue 2 роки тому +1

No, a Commodore drive cannot be used with a drive, even if you modified the cable. They work differently.

Where did you buy the color potentiometer for your Atari 130xe?

Cool video. I do have a question. In 1 of your videos I've seen a reprint of that book Mapping the Atari. Where did you get that done? I tried checking on staples website n was given prices from $168 to over $300. I want to have the book open next to me at my atari system not running over to my pc a dozen times an hour.

Hey, my Atari 130XE gives picture that goes up/down rapidly and also flickering mess. There is no repair man for ancient computers here in Serbia (heck, you can hardly find proper old school electrician). I am amateur PC configurator and I have soldered lots of electronics (mostly old Roland electric drum parts). Any help?

Funny you mention, I just ordered some PCB's for a cartridge extender and got them yesterday from PCBWay. I am showing them on my next video. Thanks for commenting
