- In todays video I'm taking a look at an age old question of what makes modern cartoons so awful. Now a days cartoons just aren't treated with the same respect as they used to and have just became boring and unwatchable. So in todays video i'm gonna talk about why and give some examples of my own for terrible cartoons. If you do enjoy make sure to like comment and subscribe.

What Makes Modern Cartoons So Awful
There's a good reason why people consider things like "Avatar the last Airbender" and *especially* the "Bruce Timm glory days" DCAU to be the peak of animation - because they're beautifully animated, well-written, have an excellent down-to-earth voice acting cast, and have mature well-rounded character development and storytelling that make them perfect for the whole family yet not afraid to go to some pretty dark places at times and tackle some very heavy subject matter. They *very* sparingly used any humour, and you could tell they had soul put into them and weren't just made to mass-market to kids (and that's not even nostalgia talking)
Very valid point and observations even the anime nowadays looks so soft and weak and generic overall compare to previous generations of anime by my observations overall.
@@abrahampalmer8761 idk wdym by soft. anime can still be very dark. attack on titan is about war and survival. in one ep u could be rooting for character and in the next ep they are dead often brutally.
I HATE avatar, looks muddy and a pale imitation of Anime, its pathetic.
I didn't want to go past the line with cartoons
Courage the cowardly dog is one of the greatest cartoons ever
Yes it sure is!
Saturday morning cartoons helped me go through life as a little kid
Even UK programs
Im 18 turning 19 and i couldn't agree more
@@gabriellitewski7988 I was born in uk and moved to USA when i was 7
Same
Animation that looks to what we name it as "calarts" is rotting our brain especially with adult programs giving bad influence on children's entertainment
The adventure time theme song is one of those ones that I just cant bring myself to skip
This is extremely underrated, the way you explained this completely summarizes my thoughts exactly
I swear to God I would give pretty much anything to go back to the 80’s/90’s cartoons and shows. They had such depth, actually meaning to the cartoons. Saturday morning cartoons were awesome beyond description. Those days were seriously like a utopia of fun for kids. I miss those times so much it freakin hurts. I would give my arm to be a kid in those times, again. I really would give anything to relive those days. Such fun times. *sigh*
Exactly tbh cartoons these days aren't as creative and interesting like it use to be tbh I miss the old cartoons I grew up with myself to there were a variety of cartoons on tv in the 90s/00s than cartoons nowadays on tv.
I largely disagree with you guys. Adventure time and that whole generation? Steven universe, gravity falls, etc... Some of the most meaningful kids cartoons ever made really. It sounds more like you guys just miss being kids haha
*edit*
To be clear I don't disagree that 80s/90s cartoons were meaningful. But they weren't the last deep cartoons made not even close.
I also watched the video now and realize he's talking about everything after the ones I mentioned.
@@brimerwelpippy4972 90s and 2000s cartoons are much better
@@patcahill3724Adventure Time and Gravity Falls was an Good Show but Steven Universe... I used to love it as an Kid but not Anymore cuz like it didn't Make Sense Sometimes Steven Always make Me mad as an Kid cuz he never Listened.
I have phobia to calarts
Honestly I think CN realizes something we overlook. The attention span of kids nowadays is abysmal. I thought my generation, millennials were bad with attention spans as kids but the younger Gen Z and Gen Alpha take the cake. I’ve watched them look at UA-cam videos and if a video is longer than 5 minutes they switch off 9 out of 10 times. I think that’s why there is a certain randomness to shows on CN now. They assume the modern child has a hard time following a plot because their attention span has been conditioned to only want instant gratification so they just make the show’s plots random. Many modern shows really do have a feel of going through a series of UA-cam shorts or TikTok videos that have a central theme but are different scenes of that theme
It really makes me sad that Cartoon Network has no interest in galactic kids next door. They rather not tell amazing great stories, but to pay money for garbage cartoons.
Me: I'm going to make a sho
CN: is it terrible
Me: No WTF
CN: get out
Random Person: *enters* let's F@#$ing Ruin ed edd n eddy
CN: you're hired
Me: money drunk B@$%#
True
Also, I'm not a hypocrite, but I personally think that the internet messed up the cartoonist minds
@@jionnizamora969 yeah
Calarts is no doubt garbage
Ben 10 was my favorite show as a kid. It had good animation, decent voice acting, an actual plot line, some sort of realistic basis to explain what's happening, and most importantly it was a unique idea.
Most of these new shows lack all of these qualities.
Dude I LOVE THAT SHOW!!!!
That and teen titans were my favourite shows man
@@lfc_szn4274 same
I love ben 10 too
Teen Titans, Ben 10 and Chowder were my favourite shows growing up
Definitely think when CN changed their logo again in 2010, things got worse in the long run.
But I needed hey arnold to have a series finale so that I wouldn't have to wait forever depending on my age
nah, they're downfall was in 2007 with that ATHF promo and scared boston.
The funny thing is I grew up on 90s cartoons and when gumball and regular show first came out I thought those shows sucked
Those shows do suck
I don't know how such a company with so many resources chooses to ignore any promising ideas and continues generating apathy
its mostly about ruining your childhood Clifford the big red dog from 2000 is still in my heart and its a good show
Clifford the big red dog was amazing show growing up it was underappreciated to a degree.
Even Clifford's puppy days
I wonder if in 2009 I should've stopped watching cartoons if only children's cartoons was on the verge dying
Nothing lasts forever but I don't want to watch endless franchises
Finally, someone came to spit straight-up facts! You’re a hero, my gentleman!
I'm litteraly only gonna let my kids watch the good shows I watched as a kid so they can actually learn a lesson from each episode as I did teen titans adventure time grim adventures of billy and Mandy Ben 10 chowder flapjack you name it
if u want to let ur kids learn lesson just let them watch evangelion
@@QWERTY-gp8fd ☠️☠️
Bruh, flapjack?
@@Cupcake_Royale Flapjacks hasn't aged well
Previously the cartoons felt originals and well balanced. Right now they are trying to do a funny character funnier, gross scenarios grosser, etc etc.. and that mess up the new cartoons
Big Time due to pc/cancel culture cartoons nowadays are wayyyy too soft and watered down than previous generations of cartoons in general
Actually, OK KO was pretty great. Uncle Grandpa and Apple and Onion? Nah lol. The only good show Cartoon Network made in the past few years was Infinity Train, but that got canceled HALFWAY through the series!
Another problem is that they don't have long theme songs no more, they're not 30 seconds long or 1 minute long anymore.
We can't watch anymore cartoons nowadays without Saturday morning and streaming is ruining it
Yeah everything feels like its for baby’s with the animation is miss the old animation and shows like ben 10,young justice and more
@@arlondaniel4215 cartoon was always for kids.
@@QWERTY-gp8fd Yeah and? Those that mean lack of effort
@@m56214 kid doesnt equal lack of effort. i suggest u to watch death note
But modern programs look as if they're for adults
I actually like Unikitty but I agree with you on everything else.
I never learned fairly oddparents already had a finale!!!!!
I wish we knew of a perfect time to quit watching cartoons if nothing lasts forever!!!!!!
I've watched too much calarts that it has made me freak out over maturity without knowing what I was supposed to be doing in reality
that last bit about the good carttons cartoon network have made got me lol
I never learned what children's were at the beginning
It seems like almost every single cartoon that is made for kids has the writing style of Caillou, where the protagonist that the kids are supposed to look up to is a whiny child. There’s only a few kids shows that are actually really good like Bluey where it literally teaches kids life lessons and teaches them that they don’t always get their way. And is hard. And not always fair because I’m tired of seeing so many kids shows in cartoons where they portrayed life as this perfect thing.
It’s unrealistic expectations for children, like they should be prepared for the world not protected
Although the characters and plot of are so-and-so, yet the songs are really fun to listen to, I actually find Grojband more enjoyable and a lot better than the cringey superhero reboot with an unhealthy obsession for waffles and hogging up an entire channel's schedule that is Teen Titans Go. Also, I'm currently watching Adventure Time, Regular Show, the original Ben 10, the original Teen Titans, Dexter's Lab, Billy & Mandy, Total Drama, and Ed Edd n Eddy, as well as shows outside of CN like Beavis and Butt-Head, Family Guy, Futurama, Loud House, SpongeBob, and Bluey.
Sometimes I wish I knew a perfect year to be less interested in children's television!!!!!
Calarts animation everywhere was the worst thing in variety in animated programs especially in movies
Recently been checking out these newer remakes with my kids. Came looking for a video like this cause I was so confused what happened. These shows don’t have a story line they are just like individual clips from vine or tick tock
It just didn't feel right not knowing to quit especially when the best shows you love don't get a series finale until the next decade
We don't have boomerang to watch classics from early decades nor to watch early reincarnation shows such as tom and jerry, looney tunes, scooby doo and so on
Why are there 2 people who's names start with a g making a shit ton of comments in this comment section. Like possibly over 10 comments for each of them. Like jesus Christ man
One rule that must be broken is that we don't use death in a children's cartoon series unless it's a good purpose and programs don't need arcs!!!!!
Not even regular show nor adventure time foreshadowing
If all cartoons when I was a kid got a series finale on time I wouldn't have to go past the line
I feel I don't like living in the future
Same the world ain't like it use to be
I want more time without having wait for anything to have a happy ending as a kid
Even Though The Ghost & Molly McGee Was Good
It Went Downhill Cause Bill Motz & Bob Moth Gave Their Ideas To The Writers
Instead Of Making The Episodes Themselves Like They Did With Episode 1
I Miss Nickelodeon, Disney Channel And Cartoon Network
I think a lot of shows now are pretty bad but there are some really good modern shows like gravity falls owl house amphibia Craig of the creek and probably a couple more that I forgot about keep in mind this is just my opinion
But computer drawn sucks
I swear every time a cartoon gets ''deep'' it's then removed. It's like some animators don't like thinking and refuse to apply it to anything.
Outside of adventure time most shows were shot after 2008
Modern animation is uninteresting to look at with no existent story telling.
There are some good modern cartoons like MoonGirl and Devil Dinosaur. The Ghost and Molly McGee is also good. I heard Owl House is good.
Kid Cosmic is better but The Ghost and Molly McGee is ok
Well I'm not gonna watch fucking manifested shows for idiots
But they're on hiatus @@randomguy56789
I use to love watching boomerang and having youtube but I wanted all good shows to have a series finale first or have enough episodes
So glad I grew up through the 70s and 80s.
I should've stopped watching cartoons by the end of the 2000s!!!!!
Demon slayer is much better than sheera reboot
Jujutsu kaisen is much better than the owl house
Nowadays cartoons : pcness, Awful drawing style and storylines
I know there won't be anymore good cartoons like saturday morning
What about preschool shows are they perfect?
ren and stimpy was too smart and I think that's the real reason it was removed.
that can be why I love ren and stimpy, it's my favorite cartoon of all time.
I wanted to watch cartoons in the copyright era if only I knew when copyright would expire!!!!!
The sad part was that not every cartoon or kids series had a conclusion on time such as hey arnold
Anyone else flinch when SpongeBob came up on the screen? He knew it would probably provoke and began de-escalating 🤣 1m likes man
I feel cross for being buffaloed into watcing in the 2010s
2:53-2:58 he made me laugh when he said "this abomination"
I didn’t even know Chloe existed because I stopped watching fairly godparents shortly after poof with introduced know because the show is boring because I grew up
In the next generation of kids, didn’t care for it
😊
Agreed 💯 I noticed in cartoons now is that even the characters making overall looks so much more fluffy soft and have generic weak looking characters than previous generations by my observations and overall cancel culture and PC culture to the extreme that is also ruining modern cartoons and remakes of older cartoons to the extreme
I thought the same
@@patcahill3724the end of pop culture references of being in the copyright has tells us cartoons do suck
to me the "Big three" you mentioned were also god awful shows to me, they looked cheap, Adventure time was unbearable to me to watch, I couldn't stand the art style, and then I saw some lemon headed guy screaming and I said, to hell with this garbage and ever looked at again. Regular show I hated because it was about these slacker college drop out frat boys who go "OoooooooooooooooooooooH" all the time and it was annoying and unwatchable trash to me too. Gumball was probaly the least bad of the three, but also was still unappealing to me. I grew up in the 1990s and early 2000s, by the time regular show came out, I was already 20 years old. my favorite shows growing up were things like Tiny Toons, Freakzoid, Animaniacs, Swat Kats, Road Rovers, Beetle Juice, and did watch the classic era of cartoon network, though I preffered the Hannah Barbara works like the Real adventures of Jhonny Quest as opposed to Dexter's Lab, though Dexter's lab though crudely drawn was at least funny. my issue is all the new cartoons look the same, with that tumbler style bean mouth art style. in the 1990s there was so much variety of art styles to cartoons.
This gonna blow up anytime now
Thank you mate I’m really grateful for the amount of views it has now tbf
holy shit this is underated
The only problem I had back then was hey arnold not getting a proper conclusion on time that I decided to wait hoping the series finale would be released but the more I waited the least remembered until I crossed the line!!!!
The only thing that's not acceptable in cartoons is no variety animation
New cartoons are better cause they focus more on the storytelling and lore behind it plus they brake ground with the inclusion of lgbt topics and romance plot with veryfing levels of success
Yeah but why would kids care about relationships they only want to focus on the premise itself and most 2000's cartoons were storytelling more of time
@@m56214 kids care about relationship. sincerely a kid grow up watching monogatari series.
Pretty sure most kids watch cartoon’s just to have a laugh
Preschools shows is hard to answer depending if they aren't immortal
But all good shows we live must have proper conclusion on time
The problem continues with adult animation. Today its boiled down to be just....gross.
To that point its hard to look at and they are gross just for being edgy.
I Love Nickelodeon, Disney Channel And Cartoon Network
I feel I need to stop being adiccted to modern programs
I prefer if I had more time being kid without having wait for any show to have a proper conclusion but changing your birthdate is hopeless
I’m commenting because this video needs more views.
I should've less interested in cartoons by the end of 2017 but I went overboard
I like OK K.O but I respect your opinion.
Same
I thought nickelodeon was breaking the rules about not canceling spongeboy for real!!!!!
1 key thing: effort. a good cartoon needs effort and time put into it,and good animation.
Adventure Time and Regular Show redefined modern cartoons
Oh God not uncle Grandpa that Show was just No as an Kid,There was an EP that Scared the Hell out of Me Where Uncle Grandpa was helping an Little Girl to face Her Fears by Turing into Monsters or Spiders. Adventure Time was my Childhood Same with Gumball but Gumball didn't felt the Same Plus OK KO was an Good Show like it didn't Deserve to be Cancelled. teen titans go.. i used to like it as an Kid but once i got Older,i see the Show was really Annoying Same with the PPG reboot Plus the Ben 10 Reboot was okay but the Scooby-Doo Reboot was just Confusing.
The name alone is disturbing uncle grandpa
The only reason I had to go was some programs such as hey arnold didn't get a series finale when I was a kid
I feel like that hey arnold the series finale came out its best to not be interested in modern cartoons anymore
the new generation of cartoons trying to ruin our childhood
What about preschool
on a brighter note,''kung fu sock'' is a decent anime cartoon with good storylines.
Wait till he hears about Velma.
well now I gotta pause the video so I can play the WNSD theme song
Can you ban Gablit1992 and Gabriel Litewski? They're flooding comment section and trashtalk about modern/story-driven cartoons for no reason.
Hey arnold was cancelled more than a decade which was a felony to fans
The rise of youtube. Cocomelon, pinkfong and so many other children's channels all completely fucked with children's taste and now everything tries to match that
Hey arnold never got a series finale on time unlike the rest of the programs from nickelodeon which was discrimination and sad being the only show left to be forgotten
In children's cartoons there's not supposed to be any change until the series finale!!!!!!!
I wanted to watch cartoons back when sesame street didn't move to hbo!!!!!!!
Tuff puppy was the only series in 2010 with good reviews
No?
The only animation that is a threat to us is calarts
I like tuff puppy
I have some good news and some bad news. The good news is every 90s program has been concluded on cartoon network especially nickelodeon not ending on unresolved conclusion especially hey arnold, the bad news is now that we're in the 2020s era cartoons are now for adults and are animated in calarts style.
Reboots and Modern Cartoons are not Funny and Classic Cartoons are Hilarious
Flash animation has no variety
Kids cartoons nowadays are now boring and so stupid
I never bothered watching Uncle Grandpa since it was stupid
After Transformers Prime ended, cartoons became trash
Once ben 10 omniverse ended
Yeah after Omniverse
I'm a idiot
2015 was the last round of good cartoons
But after everything else ended it got worse for animation
Look dude, Unikitty is god, but i have to agree in the other parts xd
Fun cartoons are the only option
I gave up on watching cartoons and i start watching animes and news
I don't want to watch programs made for non-children
Maybe I should've stopped watching cartoons by the end of the 2000s
The more you wait the least you remember what you are waiting for!!!!!!
